unclescott58 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I like it! Is it really steam powered? Scott
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I like it! Is it really steam powered? Scott Somehow, I doubt it.
unclescott58 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Somehow, I doubt it. But do you know for sure?
uncle potts Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 There's no stack, which means no fire box, which is needed to create steam. But do you know for sure?
lysleder Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 There's no stack, which means no fire box, which is needed to create steam. But that is assuming that it burns coal or other solid fuel. Steam could be produced by burning flammable liquids requiring only a tailpipe.. - but that's a different story. This bike however, runs on compressed air. The "boiler" on top is apparently a disguised high-pressure canister, and there may or may not be a compressor hidden in the bottom "fire box". I cannot say for certain. From what I gathered, it is built by a custom motorcycle builder in Holland for the show circuit, and is capable of speeds up to about 8 km/h. Disclaimer; Most information on this piece is in Dutch, in which I am not quite proficient, but to my best belief this is how the story goes. google "Revatu Black Pearl"

Mike_G Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 (edited) Aesthetically, it incorporates too many modern elements and isn't nearly "fanciful" enough to be considered steampunk On the plus side, it looks like it can actually be ridden Edited March 13, 2015 by Mike_G
slusher Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Aesthetically, it incorporates too many modern elements and isn't nearly "fanciful" enough to be considered steampunk On the plus side, it looks like it can actually be ridden I looks cool but reading the comments it only runs 6.2 miles an hour. All lawn tractors are set at 5 miles per hour now. Very cool but slow at 10k per hour. Thats what the comments say...
unclescott58 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Even though it's run on compressed air and is slow, it's still pretty cool. Scott
DrGlueblob Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Funny.. Before I saw that it was compressed-air powered, I was looking at it closely wondering if was sheet metal covering an existing motorcycle engine- BMW "Flyingbrick? ..Goldwing?.. what? That's how I'd do It though, Gas engine, get it at least up to 50mph.
