northendmetalallstar Posted May 1, 2011 Share Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) So I was in a local hobby shop one day not long ago, looking at R/C car kits I couldn't afford, when my eye caught the wall of plastic car models. I was surprised by the number of models available. I had thought they had fallen out of popularity since I don't see them in department stores anymore. I promptly purchased the MPC General Lee kit, (it was much more affordable than the R/C buggy kit I was looking at) and headed for home trying to remember the few models I had done as a kid. I hastily assembled that kit in 2 days, giving up near the end because the pieces just didn't fit right. I passed it off as 1 part poor quality kit, 1 part poor workmanship on my part. I resolved to do a much better job on the next. I did a fair bit of research in the internet, (quality manufacturers, building tips and techniques, etc..) and back to the hobby store I went. This 67' Chevelle caught my eye. I didn't like the red paint on the the box pic so i went with Tamiya metallic blue spray bomb. I've really taken my time with this one, trying to make it as nice as I can. Still have a little work to do yet. I'm waiting for the paint to gas out before i clear coat. Just be careful, this hobby can be addicting, I got back into it around 2004 with the intentions of just building a few kits my younger brother had bought. Well I built those and had some spare paint and various other tools, well, needless to say, a couple of hundred kits later I am still building and adding to my retirement collection... I'll definitely be sticking around. I can't wait to finish this model and start the next one. I've been leaning towards the 65' Chevy stepside truck by Revell that caught my eye in the LHS Juergen; Very nice job on your Chevelle. Next time try some Elmer's glue gel. It comes in the same type of bottle as their white school glue but it is either clear blue or clear purple (I've seen both). It dries clear so that the headlight lens doesn't turn white. It looks a lot more realistic. And is cheap! Again, great build. I'm still waiting to build mine.
