Nader's Nightmare

I thought I would introduce myself with my latest build. I just recently got back into modeling so my skills are limited, tools and spare parts are few and my eyes aren't what they used to be.

I'm not a box stock kinda guy, Razor Saws, Sandpaper, Exacto's and Bondo are weapons of choice.

This build is a Showrod, so practicallity is out the window. This is more an artform than a real working vehicle.

Every car needs a frame, so here is what I came up with so far.

You'll have to excuse the picture quality, I'm working with a broken camera.

As I hope to have more power than even the turbo 'Vair motor, i think I'm going to need some stronger parts.

The rear was stolen from a 57 Chevy P.U.. As I would need to lengthen the rear a bit, I decided it would look a bit anorexic with those little axle tubes, I cut the pumpkin out and added 2 pieces of .030 stock between the 2 halves to give enough room for the new tubes to fit. This gives the illusion of a larger center section to go along with the fatter tubes.

Here is a stock rear and my HD one.

Now I guess a rear is no good unless it mounts to the frame. Here is the start of making the bars for the 4 Link.

Getting an idea of how things will fit.

I had started on some front suspension pieces for another build and stole them for this one. I have to make another set of spindles but these will do for mock up. The rear links are done,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I think. I need to make 2 more brackets for the 4 link to mount to the frame and a panhard bar.

Here's where I'm at today.

The body should be revealed soon.

I started to construct the interior, I'm stuck on either a dashboard or gauge cluster of some sort. I've been looking at everything around me trying to find something that sparks my interest, but nothing yet. The best I've come up with so far is a headrest from a Deora. I'll keep looking.

Got some work done on the body. You can now see the reason for the name of this build.

Here is what I started with, a resin 61 Corvair dirt modified body.

BDBody.jpg

First step was to cut notches at the top of the wheelwells and add some wedges to straighten out the body. the Modified body is bent at the wheelwell.

I cut the roof off, added some Evergreen to the back of the roof and to the tops of the openings for the side windows to get it back to the shape of a normal Corvair, then I cut the A pillars down about 3/16" and moved the roof back about 1/4". I also cut some 1/4" round tubing into a quarter of the radius to fill the top of the front, made a new firewall and filled the rear wheelwells.

I also called my buddy Lucious Fox over at Wayne Enterprises and had him make me up a custom engine coupler that houses the flywheels and clutch. He is also making me a trans that will mount to the pumpkin on the rear. It pays to have friends. The only problem, shipping from Gothom City is expensive!

Here's how she sits as of now.
