  1. Looking very good, and thanks for the tip on using cigar wrappings to simulate wood. I would have never thought of that (then again, I don't smoke....maybe I should take up cigars as an augmentation to my love of liquor).
  2. Interesting blend of GM parts. The vette backlight almost looks like it belongs on the Firebird.......I like the way it flows with the rest of the body.
  3. We used the promoter as a 'just in case' measure. I used alcohol, followed by MEK/Acetone mix, followed by soapy water to prep his interior parts. When he sold the car, the dye/paint still looked good and fresh (DO NOT use MEK on model car styrene, you will have a blobbed up puddle of ruined plastic if you do. Same with acetone......these chemicals don't play well with hobby styrene). If the dyes work well just as they are, sounds like a viable source for interior colors then. Thanks to those who responded on this subject.
  4. Spyder.....no, the space-time continuum is still intact. The original was issued by MPC back in 1970-71 timeframe, them again by AMT in the late80s and early 90s with the Pro Street build option. Then they re-issued this kit again in 2008, only without some of the options (like the DOHC Hemi head option). It is interesting to see what has changed even in the reissue since it was released in 2008....seems some things have been re-appearing over time (does this mean the DOHC heads might make it back?!!).
  5. Yeah, some of the adhesion promoter can be pretty hot......and honestly with the new formula of Styrene the companies seem to be using these days, I am a little scared to try it. Guess that is what sprues are for!
  6. Yes, this kit has 3 sets of rims; the stock Magnum Road wheel, some deep Convo-style wheets, and some Weld-style 'Outlaw' looking units. You have two engine choices (but they share the same 4 speed tranny case), the 440+6 and the Hemi (with either the stock inline or the crossram intake). Stock rear end or the narrowed unit, stock exhaust or the 'Pro Street' set-up, the 69 and 70 style underhood air grabber units, 4 different shifter options, and a few other niceties. Also, I noticed the 440+6 intake is a 1969&1/2 unit, not a 1970 unit (difference was 1969&1/2 was cast by Edelbrock in Aluminum for Chrysler and 1970 was cast by Chrysler themselves...in Iron!). With that being said, mine is going together nicely so far, with minimal flash and requiring little clean-up.
  7. Just started building mine today. Thanks for the inspiration and yours looks good so far. Depending on your ultimate interior color choice, I would either go with the White Bumble Bee stripe (for a light or two tone black/white interior) or the Black Bumble Bee stripe (for a dark interior).
  8. Looking VERY good! Your build is going to force me to dig the Ford Motorsports ZakSpeed powered racer I have stashed in the closet out and build it (as if I don't have enough unfinished buils as it is!).
  9. We used adhesion promoter when we did a friends CRX interior color change. We would shoot the promoter, and as per the can, while the promoter was still tacky would shoot the paint onto the plastic parts. Still looks good 3 years later. Thanks for the reminder Mark; glad you suggested those sources!
  10. Thanks for the info....looks like I know what to look for when I do my Target/Meijer/Wal-Mart runs! Your build is looking good........I like it.
  11. I used Testors Model Master 'Flesh Tone' as a base and washed it with Model Master 'Leather', then dry-brushed it with a little bit of Model Master Tan and it looked pretty close to the Tan/Chamois/Carmal color Ford offered. Your Red interior looks good and 'right' for your build. I like the cobra so far!
  12. My mom had a Plymouth Gran Fury of the same year. My dad bought it from the dealership he worked at when it was traded in by the county. It was a parole officers car, and still had plastic over the seats! We pulled the plastic covers and the fabric underneath was SPOTLESS. Vinyl flooring and all......it was ice Blue Metallic with the Blue interior, 318 2bbl/auto. Dad took and mounted a set of Cordoba road wheels on it and gave it to her to drive, it had only 38,000 miles on it. When we sold it, someone had hit it in the front, and dad had replaced the nose with a Diplomat nose and repainted the car the same color......it had 200,000 miles on the clock and still ran good. With that diatribe out of the way, I look forward to seeing this build............is it 1/18th or 1/24th? I may have to pick one up and model moms car!
  13. Wow man.....you practice voodoo? Bringing this back from the dead!! Glad you did though or I would have missed this build. Looking good....now hopefully it won't be two years before we get another update !
  14. Thanks for that Jason...didn't even know it existed. I thought you were refering to the AFX version.
  15. Looking VERY good. I like the interior, and the exterior two-tone treatment. By the way, I have 4 1:1 Foxes; an 83 GLX vert triple black V6/auto, an 84GT Turbo 5speed, an 86 GT Ttop 5speed, and my daily 91GT (base GT.......no options) 5speed.
  16. Keep up the good work man...and is that your Fox in the pic in your sig area?
  17. The SVO lower airdam (front end under the trim) will not work as it is at a ridiculous slant compared to the correct LX (and even the real SVO) slant. Also, the side trim is for the 1979-1984 Fox Mustangs; and the 87-93 LX had slightly narrower body moldings with the indent in the upper 1/3rd of the molding, whereas the GT had slightly wider moldings and had the indent almost centered and wider. The engine bay is also molded from the 1979-82 kits, and will have to be modified (battery location) to look right in the 87-93 cars. Reliable Resins does have the proper side and rear windows, tails, and all-around body for this. But, if I were you and using this kit, I would order up the window glass and taillights from reliable, find a donor 93 Cobra kit for the engine bay, and go from there. Jason, it was AFXinScale that had the revised front bumper. Still pretty bad, but a start. I have 4 of their coupes in my stash.
  18. Call me nuts, but the original SHO Taurus' were and still are one of the only 4 doors that I really liked. Your model of this fine car looks great, although I do agree with you on the rear ride height issue.
  19. Looking very good! I am a Fox body fan, and a 4eye fanatic at that. Early Cobras, GTs, and about any 4eye turns me into a giddy schoolboy.
  20. I have 2 1965 Dodge Coronet500s, one a 'vert and one a hardtop. I like your build; clean and well built.
  21. My dad has a 66' Coronet500 Hemicar, and I love that car. This build reminds me of his car. Doing a great job with the build, but I notice that the steering wheel is in upside down. I am also converting a 67' Plymouth GTX into a model of his 66' Plymouth BelvedereII Hemicar. I like the scratchbuilding involved in converting a car to a similar vehicle.
  22. I have 3 full-size 4eye 'Stangs (1983 GLX V6/C5 Vert, 1984GT Turbo/5spd full optioned sunroof car, and a 1986 GT Ttop 5spd car) and I have to say I like the build you have going here, and the finished car in that section. Had I have read this first, I wouldn't have asked the mfgr of the kit. Good job on the build!
  23. I love the Fox chassis cars. What kit is that you started with?
  24. Chevy powered Fords are way overdone.......especially when a Ford Engine would have fit where the Chevy sits. Good to see some Chevy lover getting hot under the collar (maybe now you'll know how the Ford boys feel). Personally, I grew up Mopar and got no love from any autophile. Apparently, the only word from Mopar that means anything is 'Hemi'........Mopar had a lot more than just that engine going for it. But alas, back to the subject at hand.....................................cool build man, I have always liked the FE series engine and twin-turboing it only makes it better. Car is coming along great!
