  1. I was absent from Facebook for years. Then I decided to get back on it, pretty much for the model pages on it. Now I’m off again, pretty much because of the model pages on it. A person on FB asked why his Krylon paint was giving him fits, and I suggested using paint formulated for styrene. And you’d swear I killed someone’s first born child! Yea. Life is too short for that stuff. This community is by far the best thing I’ve ever had the opportunity to be part of. Some pretty intelligent members on here that are always glad to help when you run into a build or paint problem while building your next show car.
  2. A very good eye for details. Fantastic work.
  3. I have a 2012 Focus as my everyday, beater car. I got it for free from a relative that passed on, so it doesn’t owe me anything. I put 25,000 miles on it since I had it, and now it has over 70,000. The auto trans has some clutch shudder, and I did re set the trans, and it seemed to perform much better. This year is apparent the worst for the transmission, being “sealed” and no way to service. I’m hoping I can get another year out of it. Too bad, because other wise, it’s a great running little car. It keeps mileage off my good car, so I’ll be sad to see it go.
  4. Nice project going on here, with the sedan conversion. That seller on eBay has some nice grills. I bought a couple of those for a few of my cars.
  5. The engine is looking killer so far. I like what you did with the timing cover. Looks real! I’ll be following along with your build. If it turns out half as nice as your other builds, it will be a show stopper for sure.
  6. Having around eight builds going on at the same time is kind of the norm for me. But, the few that are put away, to be honest, I really don’t know why I haven’t pulled them out, to work on, or finish. Usually, if I’m just not feeling it, I most likely will not work on it. I suppose it’s the same reason, when I get an idea to build a particular car, go and purchase the kit, and get stuff together, and not start it for a while. Which we all know, contributes to a big stash. Now you got me thinking about pulling a few of those stored builds out, when I clear my bench of the eight I’m working on. My Mel Burns 1963 Ford 300 427 is almost ready for paint and final assembly. I need a decent front bench seat. I guess that’s why it is just sitting in storage.
  7. I was following your build thread on this car. I still can’t get over how fantastic everything looks on this car. That interior, with the black floor looks dead on perfect. Even as a curbside, this is one spectacular build.
  8. Nissan, I can say has been keeping their customers at their dealerships for years. I can’t speak of other manufacturers, as I’ve only owed Nissan in the last two decades for my everyday driver. I’ve never been able to buy a part at the auto store, as it’s always a “dealer only” item, sending me to the dealership to buy a specific part. What’s bad about this is they are taking away all other options from us to decide who and where we want our vehicles repaired. I can still preform most work on my cars, as my health will allow. Saving me dollars, but sadly, this will end too.
  9. I hear ya Bill. I deleted my post because I didn’t want it to sound like YOU were the person I was referring to. I was referring to the people all over the internet posting inaccuracies pertaining to stories they read. Seems like they get off on this behavior.
  10. The way I see this, is, fairly recently consumers were not running out and purchasing a new vehicle as soon as, or sometimes even before their current vehicle is paid off. The average vehicle in the US now is over 10 years old. This caused a huge over stock of cars that were just sitting on lots. The manufacturers were loosing money and their minds, and so now here we are. It’s pretty sad that vehicles used for basic transportation for millions, now becomes another tool to steal money from people who are trying to make ends meet. And this is with almost everything. From refrigerators to tv sets, all made very cheap and designed to break. It’s hard to find any product that has real quality anymore. They have us all right where they want us. You can write your state rep, but that hardly ever works anymore, because their lined pockets are way more important than the people they represent.
  11. Take care of yourself, and get healthy. The models can wait. You’ll be back at the bench before you know it.
  12. Unbelievable things going on anymore. Kinda reminds me of the old “clunker bill” years ago when they tried to take vehicles from owners for being a “gross polluter”. So corporations like Chevron, get their brownie points so they can pollute the environment. I’m happy it never became to be, because, how is a show car, that’s being driven on weekends to car shows, polluting the air? And many of those cars were on the hit list. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think to myself, how all of these hi tech devices are actually causing more problems, than being a solution for the problems.
  13. I went down and checked out both kits. One sprue is warped, but the parts on it are fine. Go figure. I fitted both kits hoods on the bodies and they fit like a glove.
  14. After viewing the video Alan provided, it appears these Comet kits have a few shortcomings besides the backwards “Comet” lettering scripts. I’m almost afraid to crack my box open and see a hot mess.
  15. Another fine build.
  16. Excellent progress on your build, Dennis. Everything looks fantastic, from the engine, to the rims and brakes. This is super cool!
  17. My K Code version arrived yesterday from Wes Model Car Corner. Now having one of each, I’ll probably dive into the K Code, and see if I can modify the hood, to resemble a flat hood. That way, hopefully I can graft a tear drop scoop onto it. I’m hoping that a stock version is on the works, for future builds.
  18. I was a bread route salesman for 25 years with Holsum bread. Absolutely loved that job, but unfortunately it was purchased by Sara Lee, and ultimately sold to Bimbo Bakery. I was the highest in seniority at my plant, and had an excellent severance. Purchasing and owning my own route was not an option for me. Maybe if I was 30 years younger, I might have, so I took the severance. Then I drove tractor trailer for Coca Cola. That, IMO was the hardest job. And I’ll just leave it at that, without getting into details.
  19. Absolutely stunning build Paul. All the extra work you put into preparing the parts paid off. Everything, from under the hood to the differential looks fantastic. Nice job on this one.
  20. That would be a nice addition to any kit. I do believe there is a 57 Chevy kit, and a few others that do have some sort of PE detail in the box. But, a real simple solution, is to have the quality control department do their job, before giving the ok to mold the kit.
  21. Thanks for this info Michelle. I guess if I score the front and rear body parts, I can live with the 68 interior.
  22. I decided to build this car for myself. I haven’t heard from my friend since he originally contacted me. Not too concerned with the ram bar, or the wheels, as Fireball has both of those. I have a sealed 68 kit, but I’ll still need the front and rear body parts. Is the 68 interior the same as the 69? If not maybe Bill might still have those parts?
