Scale I Build

Found 7 results

  1. This one is now done. Introducing Sapphire. She is painted with Testors Arctic Blue enamel and has a, factory optional, slate interior. The console was scratch built and photoetched power window switches were installed. It is the luxury version of a Pontiac after all. She is one of the sisters in my Big Girls batch build.
  2. Vintage Revell 1/25. No major issues aside the side glass being severely warped beyond any us and the rear glass not entirely seating down. Went through two sets of the rear windows, the first one literally a slope due to warpage. The second one that's on here isn't a perfect fit ether but looks fine all things considered. First row of mods: Kit's seats were missing, so ones from a AMT 4th Gen Firebird Trans Am were used to fill that void. Exhaust tips of unknown source from spares bin Wheels are custom ones from Revell Acrua RSX, and painted Rustoluem Metallics Pure Gold Brakes are unknown ones from the spares bin and tires are sourced from a Revell SVT Mustang Cobra Front suspension has added upper A arms and springs, which the kit did not originally have Spoiler did not come with the GTP, but was sourced from a parts Revell 90 Grand Prix molded in white GTO/77 Trans Am style hood scoop is actually the optional roof scoop from a Revell Mitsubishi Eclipse Decals are from various sources, Lil Hustler ones being unused leftovers from the previous Datsun 620 build Interior paint is K-mart branded Grey Primer, and exterior is painted Tamiya TS-72 Clear blue over Rustoluem Aluminum cleared with Pledge And now the twist: LS1 motor from parts bin Revell 4th Gen 2002 Camaro SS LS1's T5 transmission was hacked off and replaced with a black molded FWD transmission. It was from an unknown source, but lined up with the LS1 block perfectly To fit this larger motor, some of the frame had to be shaved off and alt driveshafts were used instead of the kit's ones The left part of the engine bay had some work done with removing material and setting it back further so it wouldn't hit it. It was a very tight squeeze even with the work done Headers and K&N filter are spares bin pieces an unknown source, and the Turbo is a resin piece with the tubing from plastic sprue. Intercooler was also converted from a spares bin radiator
  3. Just some pics from an ebay listing, but it's a bit of a shame this kit is the end of the line for the 1/25 MPC Pontiac Grand Prix tooling. Not sure if this could ever be backdated to the last stock type issue or not, but I doubt it. Looking back at MPC's 1970 Grand Prix, the faux front fender exiting exhaust was already present, as an optional feature: The Grand Superfly's successor, the Sweat Hogs 'Dream Machine' modified reissue from 1976:
  4. This model was built to loosely resemble a black over red 70 Grand Prix I owned for a number of years in the late 90's. It started out as a built-up glue bomb purchased on ebay. It was brush painted blue and looked pretty bad at first. After a dip in the "purple lake" I surveyed what was salvageable. The body, bumpers and interior were fair but the engine was a blob. Fortunately, I had a Revell Parts-Pack Pontiac 421. I soaked it in Westly's to dechrome it and sourced the stock air cleaner and other items from the parts bin. I actually made my own wired distributor from supplies picked up at Radio Shack and Hobbytown USA. I used a technique I learned on Drastics about BMFing emblems BEFORE painting and then scraping off the paint on the raised areas to expose the letters. It actually worked quite well. Especially since the "Grand Prix" emblems are separate block letters. It did a fair job on the front fender louvers as well. The interior is pretty basic, with just some minor detailing. The underside being an old MPC offering with chassis screws, is nothing to write home about. I did do my signature red mufflers (a throw back to the Cherry Bomb glass pack days). The engine compartment is anatomically all wrong compared to a real GP. Especially in the fan shroud/radiator areas. I did not have the parts to correct it though, so it is what it is. The mags are Modelhaus Keystone Klassics which have been painstakingly detailed. I performed my signature rear tire widening technique to fill in the rear wheel wells. The tires have been lettered with a "Gelly Roll" pen from a local stationary store. The windows were boogered up but, using progressively finer grit polishing cloths, finished off with a coat of Future, they look as good as new. Sharpie markers applied here and there round out the small details. I am pretty pleased at how my first restoration turned out.
  5. Thought I'd already posted this latest build, but obviously I hadn't. Finished about three weeks ago, this is the Monograms revised Grand Prix from the 'Dirt Devil' boxing. The decals are from the superb Powerslide sheet, but the lower 'Harvest Yellow' is my own mix of Tamiya acrylics. The black is also Tamiya straight from the rattle-can then polished back with Micro-Mesh cloths. I sealed everything in with good ol' Humbrol 'Clear Cote' (sic), which was also polished back. Been building aircraft for the past few weeks, I'll get back to more NASCAR modelling in a few weeks, there's the '03 Chevy to finish and a re-do of a '98 Taurus in the queue, so please stay tuned. Thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Ian.
  6. I used to own a 1984 Pontiac Grand Prix. The only kit available are NASCAR varieties of this 1981-1987 Pontiac G body car. Several people have done this conversion; many times using the 1/24 Monogram Monte Carlo as a basis. I decided to stay with 1/25. The MPC Grand Prix NASCAR kits had nice bumpers. The also had huge wheel opening bumps. This is a big job to eradicate. The MPC '80 Class Action Monte Carlo provided the glass, interior tub, chassis and 305 Chevy V8 engine I needed. With very little filing, it all fits I originally omitted the photo of the best available MPC Monte Carlo kit. I got one at a local store relatively inexpensive. It was re-issued by Round2 in 2008.
  7. Hey. I got this promo in a package deal a while back and I couldn't just let it go to waste. There was a big crack in the roof, no chrome (other than the headlights), missing pillars and it had no chassis. Thanks to The Modelhaus, my parts box, and my wife's nail polish collection, I was able to give it a new lease on life. It has a '69 front bumper/grille but I can live with it; I covered the rear "1969" license plate with a custom plate. Thanks for lookin'. I'll post more pictures later. Before... After...
