As if I haven't enough projects on the go right now, here's another I've just started.  I know that the 1:1 car was a Challenger, but I couldn't resist using the recent Revell Sox & Martin pro stock kit, to see what it might have looked like if he had run a 'Cuda instead.

I started the paintjob by applying Tamiya Silver panels over Pure White.  I then sponged on some Citadel Boltgun metal to provide a bit of contrast and give a mottled effect.  The panels were then coated in Tamiya clear red and purple, after applying the 'Wanted' decal to the doors.  Here's how it looks fresh out the paint booth.

By George I think you've got it! This is a car I'd like to build (with a Challenger body) but always have stopped because the sides weren't right. Your paint job is the closest I've seen to being accurate for the Challenger.

WOW, I want to see more.  Stepps cars  were definitly the best looking back then

What is this Citadel Boltgun ?

A quality acrylic paint marketed for gamers. Boltgun is a dark gunmetal color.

Great job on the body!

This is exactly why the model car hobby is so awesome  ( at least to me it is ) and I am sure to a lot of other people too. To take a terrific subject like this and give it a little twist in a different direction and end up with a fantastic build is just plain old amazing. You are truly off to a great start, can't wait to see more. Thanks for sharing this with us and Billy the kid stepp is a Great subject to build.       Jeff

One of my all time favorite 1/1 scale pro stockers....very, very cool to see your adaptation here.  Will be watching for updates....TIM

Thanks everyone for the support.  I am blown away by some of the detailed replicas built on this forum but that level is beyond me.   I agree with you Jeff, this wonderful hobby of ours offers so much freedom and creativity. I recently finished a 'phantom' Bantam altered and had a great time building it.

You are instrumental in this Tim, I recently re-read one of your old articles about drag cars where you supported 'what if' builds and that inspired me to dig this one out.  Anyways, I got the decals finished last night and here's how it looks right now.

Further to Wayne's reply, it is the paint marketed by Warhammer Games Workshop.  They are water based and offer some great metallics, ideal for suspension and engine components etc.

Made good progress over the weekend, got the completed interior installed in the body after applying some more clearcoats and then BMF around the greenhouse.  Sorry, no separate photos of the interior, I was at a local modelling workshop yesterday and forgot to take my camera.

Paul that is excellent.  I would never have thought about sponging the paint on for the affect.  What type of sponge do you use?  Steve

Stephen, I simply used a small piece that fell off the sponge I use to wash my car.
