Calling all Super Stock gurus!

Recommended Posts

Saw this car on Ebay. Looks like a cool build of a vintage Super Stock drag car, but the chassis and suspension don't look right to me.

I'm not knocking the build, I just don't know enough about the rules to know if these mods are correct for Super Stock.

Blower, roll cage, front suspension cage, rear tubs and fuel cell legal in 1962?

Blower not in S/S. Fuel cells didn’t exist in 62  Never saw chute on S/S. Just no.  And others know far more than I do

As others have mentioned, as built this does not represent a car that would be in the Super Stock class. This looks to be the old AMT '62 Bel Air hardtop that was offered as a stock kit, reissued with Drag options and even a raised front suspension option along with many decal options. This is actually a very good kit especially remembering how long ago it was issued. What you have is a kit where someone built it as a Drag Car in a class way beyond the SS class. The front suspension looks well done and no it's not stock as you can see. The rear suspension looks as if they redid it as well. You might just freshen up what you have as it looks like a nice display build.

I didn't buy it, It just caught my eye as a cool SS class car with period decals wheels and stance. Along with the fact that it says S/S on the rear quarters next to 990.

Was "The Sled" a real car from that period, or is that bogus too?

What didn't seem right to me was the mods that indicates a far deviation from a stock drag car. Which is why I asked. I'm no expert.

RM box art. Unfamiliar other than that.

Something to note in regard to the decals as well as the basic kit used. Oldcarfan 27 bought an AMT '62 Bel Air and it appears that whoever built it used the decals from the Revell '62 Impala kit.
