ismaelg Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 (edited) Hello, Before we start, let's make sure we are clear on the scope of this project. This is not a super duper mega ultra build, but rather a restoration of an old bomb. Even more, it was a ZERO budget build. Not a single penny was used on this. Everyting came from the parts box. Even the paints used were leftover from other projects. The engine insert was beyond hope so it was built as a curbside. Cobra Colors Arctic white, pearl mid coat and clear. Tire decals are very old from a '78 Pace car. They looked good but now the carrier film is showing in some of them. Yes, that's a Jairus Watson original in the wall. My favorite automotive artist. Keys are in the ignition. This is still a nice neighborhood The owner of this car is a modeler! Notice the MPC Ghost Rider Corvette model kit! I hope you like it. White cars are very challenging to photograph. Thanks, Edited June 23, 2008 by ismaelg
george 53 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Well Is, another winner! Goes to show how we should NEVER toss out old plastic even if it looks unsalvageable! Great job on the save!never woulda guessed it was a junker!
MrObsessive Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Ismael, you can rest assured that model is glad you rescued it! That is one TERRIFIC job!! Stance, paint, details are perfect! I especially like the T-Top treatment as I always thought the roofline of any T-Top 'Vette looks best when the panels are a contrasting dark smoke color.
Luis Ayala Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Congratulations Ismael!!!!!!!!!!! It's just amazing to see the "Before" and "After"... It turned out GREAT!!!!!!!!!! Your skills are amazing bro... Thanks for sharing.

Great job on the save!never woulda guessed it was a junker! I couldn't agree more, speacially the sentimentall value behind them. I love to get junkers and make nize builds with it. OK KIDS...NEVER THROW OUT PARTS...SPECIALLY WHEELS. Ismael "TATO" put his hart on this one too and it shows. emprestamela para dar una vueltita por el condado con la jeva. Hey Bill, he did the same thing on the roof with the black gloss paint that you did on your Vette, it isn't smoked, right Iz??? Correct me on that and be nice enough to explain unless you don't want to waste the ink on your pen or the electricity that keeps your computer going!!!

Monty Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Very nice job! All you have to do to finish it is figure out a way to make the brakes squeak and the t-tops leak and have something vacuum-controlled unexpectedly go out (headlight pods are good for this) I liked your solution for replicating the dark mirrored t-tops, so I'd like to know what you'd suggest for some of the more silver-looking units (my 1:1 '80 has M92As which are definitely a silver-mirrored surface). PS I think I saw you over on the C3 section of corvetteforum.com earlier!
crispy Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I wouldn't expect anything less from you Ismael! Nice and clean, a stunning save. Chris

Monty, I need to do all that when I make a model of mine I have not tried it, but I think that for the silver looking units, you could do a gloss black base, a very light mist of alclad and clear over it. Yes that was me on the C3 Corvette forum, fighting the brakes on my '70 and getting some counseling Sometimes 1/25 cars behave better than 1:1 Thanks,
RodBurNeR Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 not my style, but that is really pretty! what did it used to look like since you "restored" it?
ismaelg Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 not my style, but that is really pretty! what did it used to look like since you "restored" it? Thanks Bob, I started with these: Here is a link to the whole process: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12098 Thanks,
