kilshaw Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) Hello, here is another one of my finished models. This model has won a gold in the junior's class at the UK IPMS nationals, and two golds in the senior civilian vehicles classes at regional shows. The Williams-BMW FW24 was used by the famous Williams F1 Team throughout the 2002 Formula One season. The #5 car was driven by Ralf Schumacher, whilst the #6 car was driven by Juan Pablo Montoya. My model represents JP Montoyas car from the 2002 United States Grand Prix, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This was one of the most controversial races in history, with a backfired staged 1-2 finish between the two Ferrari drivers. Williams race wasnt smooth either, because the two drivers collided on lap 2, when Ralf Schumacher collided with Montoya, Montoya finished the race in 4th position. My model took 5 months to build, and I used an aftermarket photo-etch set and decals. To build it as the US GP version, I had to dramatically alter the rear wing, to replicate the low-downforce setup used at the high-speed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Thank you, Jake Edited May 14, 2014 by kilshaw
cartpix Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Superb. You really know your F-1 cars. Fantastic details. It's hard to believe, you're just 15. I couldn't build, like that, when I was 15. Keep it up, you have real talent.
Jim Whalen Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 That is looking really nice Jake - congrats on the awards you have achieved with this model. I'm sure you'll get some more if you enter it at some more shows.
bbowser Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Great model! Really well done, you surely have a future if you stay with it.
Mike Kucaba Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Really nice for any age, but even more considering your age! What P/e set did you use? and what paints were used? I have a couple of these in the pile and am curious.
Harry P. Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Wait... what? You're 15???!!! Wow. There are a lot of adults with a lot of years experience under their belt that can't build like that!
Nacho Z Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Jake, I'm a big fan of all race cars and really enjoy seeing them here. F1 cars are not the most popular subject on the board. Nice to see yours. Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
Danno Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Outstanding. Especially for your age. Most 15-year-olds don't notice details!
kilshaw Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 Thanks for all your kind wordsReally nice for any age, but even more considering your age! What P/e set did you use? and what paints were used? I have a couple of these in the pile and am curious. I used the Studio 27 photoetch set and Zero paints for the body. The rest was painted with Alclad for metals and Black parts were Vallejo black. Jake
Silver Foxx Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 This is a really top class build , so much nice detail , well done .
PappyD340 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Outstanding. Especially for your age. Most 15-year-olds don't notice details! x2
fitforbattle Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 x2 X3. Remember what I built when I was 15. Who doesn't fancy floating alternators and unwired distributors? I was a real fan of JP back in these days and I remember that race. He fought well.
JPS_Lotus Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Great build Jake! I love F1 car builds. It's nice to see the FW-24 build as I had debated a few times grabbing that kit to add to my growing pile of models in my closet, but decided against it. I like the display you did for it, it sets it apart from how most F1 builds look.
Art Laski Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Jake, at 15 you are killing it! Keep on building and you're going to be the new Sheriff in town.
