I sometimes used a military color called gunmetal for simulating cast iron parts.

here's a controversial idea.... configure the top so that it lifts off like the Blazers of the 70's/80's.

beautiful work, congrats on the well deserved awards. I noticed your trunk and hood stay open without prop-rods, please let us know how you achieved this.

very 60's...and I mean that in a good way. nice continuity on the custom work. a little wash on the grille might have made it pop a bit more but it's a great build.

thanks for the info that a few of us will enjoy for our own reasons. although a few of the "free form" builders may think about calling you a "rivet counter" now, I personally think that it isn't really that hard to build it like the real ones if you're going to add in that particular detail to start with.

Harry, your Photoshop "Force" is strong.

"Holy grail" of muscle cars discovered

there seem to be a LOT of "truths" floating around. and just maybe these birds are a "Holy Grail" for Pontiac enthusiasts. -
Rockford Files '74 Pontiac Firebird UPDATED 4-28
blunc replied to am73grand's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I performed a "Rockford turn" in my 68 Firebird once, I completed it successfully but it's a bit abusive to the front end if you're not doing it fast enough when you're on a road that's not very slick. it's nice that there is a decent camaro chassis/floor pan to improve the bottom side of your kit bash. -
found some K&S photo etch mesh hiding in the back of an Ace Hardware, several sizes of mesh that I can use for custom grilles and radiators.

I agree, the hairpins give the volksrod look but from an engineering perspective they cause a suspension travel issue that could result in them being ripped from their mounting points. Now...if the front axle assemble were turned around so that the torsion bar pivot points were facing forward, then the hairpins "could" work (from an engineering perspective), but this would change the look of the front end a little bit.

Here is a link to my Flickr set of DSC-10 photos. I regret that most of the Master award winners showed up on the tables after I had already finished getting photos, I really would have wanted some pics of the best in show to get ideas from. I had a great time and wish I hadn't been too exhausted for working nights to go hang out with you guys at the BBQ. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blunc/sets/72157643966359005/show/ Things I heard while at DSC10: "That is SICK!" "CAN I HAVE IT?" "Luv ya Brotha"

thank you for mentioning the scale on this. (has anyone noticed the "pigtails" coming off the master cylinder?)

I think I have one of those, should I bring it ?

Hey Rich, if you put a little silver paint on each end of the diode where the wire comes out it will look even more like a real fuel filter. That is a superb color of blue that came out great!

great tips on scribing. I like your standard for details.

Does anyone make the 73 firebird?
blunc replied to fitforbattle's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
"trans-kit" are usually a small group of parts used to make a different body style from the body style made by the manufacturers...like replacing the bumpers, grilles or hood. I know someone makes/sells formula-400 hoods that have the two front scoops...maybe that resin caster has plain firebird hood/grilles. just giving you options. -
Hey Danno, I looked all over the DSC 10 info and the only place I could find that tells times for entry/start of the show/contest and closing times is here in this thread. Did I miss something on the Cactus site or did someone forget to add event times to the DSC 10 info?

you might check to see if there is a resin trans kit for turning the 70 TA into a 73 but the differences won't be big enough to affect the basic configuration of the monogram kit. -

I agree with the theory that it's a Firebird with fender flare kit, I think I see aftermarket rear window louvers/slats that were popular back in the 70's and 80's have been added also. I know it probly can't be seen from that photo but TA steering wheel was very different than the regular Firebird steering wheel. A steering wheel from a late 60's GTO kit will be closer than the TA steering wheel.
