It all started after that first cool day. The squirrels were getting restless. I had this zip-lock baggie with a 327 FI out of a Monogram '57 something or other that I bought off ebay because I stole the one from this other kit....anyway, the squirrels came knockin' and before you know it its an engine with no car I needed a 1:24 car. Here's what I found ๐๐ another Ollie's special purchase. Vestigial glass. When I saw it, I started looking for an up-top. โน๐ซ๐ก.....okay. A nice feature for a resto-rod is the acid etched floral designs on the wing glass. Note to self: delete vent wings. Speakers ๐คฃ Nice backing plates and the inside wheel rings sorta simulate brake drums. The front beam axle appears to have a 3" or 4" drop and it too mounts on built-in stops (which will be removed during the lowering process.) The tubular shocks are part of the axle and only depict tubular shocks when viewed from the front. From behind they are just flat. You can see why I'm not using this engine although the high-rise intake could be useful somewhere . The grille has no cross braces showing, just the vertical vanes. This would be great but the plating is a bit lumpy ๐คจ. Not to worry. I feeex. Let's face it, kids, it's not a great kit. The molds are getting old and they kept the shipping weight down to a minimum by deleting the up-top. I do like the wheels and the tires are free of gate blemishes. As you can see, the fenders and running boards and frame are a single unit making an open wheel hot rod a bit labor-intensive. This one gets lowered along with the engine swap. The firewall might need a re-design. The all-inclusive interior tub will need floor surgery and the hand-hold holes for the non-existent rumble seat will be filled. I suppose I should lop off the roof brackets since they won't be needed. Door handles too. The windshield mounting points are a bit awkward but detailed fairly well. The rear suspension consists of a separate spring that attaches to the rear axle housing using very tiny, thin pins that insert into corresponding holes. The real mounting is two posts that mate with "pads" at the housing ends. The torque tube has a solid front mounting point. My duty is to lower it as much as I dare. Also, out of necessity, I will be converting to an open drive shaft. It's a bit boring so far but hang in there. I'm about to start screwing things up! ๐ค . As usual, even the most vile comments are appreciated ๐ฅด

Yay ๐! Hey keep the decals, I'll swap you a complete '58 Edsel w/ con. kit &skirts ๐....or a still sealed '41 Plymouth!
-
Thanks for the encouragement, Mark, this is just normal stuff for me. As long as nature cooperates, I can move it forward. September is gone now so the atmosphere should dry out enough for painting soon.
-
Yeah, that's all I could think of. I looked at my kit for a closer look but came up empty. It looks like it could be a fan motor for a heater core under the seat. It's weird but who knows? Back in those days, it's a possibility. I know they had heaters because my grandfather had a '47 Aero ( I recall barfing in the back seat ๐คข) up north where it was a necessary option due to long, cold winters.

I would think the exhaust system should be fairly easy with a separate frame and floor pan. I might even try with styrene rod of appropriate size bent cold mostly....but solder works. Interior looks great, the spare well might look better painted floor color, but that's just me. I'm sitting here with my kit on my lap and I'm wondering what that round thing on the bottom under the passenger side might be. There's things there that I don't recognize. Those things may need paint detail. ๐ค.... a mystery to investigate. Somebody knows.....

Hey, I did that to a company vacuum pump. More than once ๐คซ

What's that smell?
-
Well there you have it!

It's less than a quarter-mile ๐คท....okay, I'll spring for a twelve pak.

I was talking about the mock-up, Len, not the "usual remedy"; that made my head hurt. ๐ฃ
-
Help me push it down the street to the gas station.
-
Yes, Lenny, I do. You probably won't like it, though. ๐ฅด you'll need to make a little green flag on a scale four foot long wood stick. You somehow tie it to the driver's side door post. Oh, ๐ฉ. No door post. Well, just paint a kookie-looking number on the door like a double zero with pupils and eyebrows. Oh yeah, paint spirals on the wheels or paint them half yellow and half red, tires and all. Ooo, almost forgot....no glass. There is a way to stop but you'll need to stop breathing first. ๐ต

Finishing up this project today included the addition of magnetic hood retainers. I wanted to just eliminate the hood to show off that cool blower but it just doesn't look right. The hood stays, so I've got to hold it in place. I need to paint the inside of the hood, sure ๐. The body, interior, and chassis have all been permanently joined, windshield is glued, tail lights and plate attached. Nothing significant will change unless I drop it on the floor so enjoy the very last mock-up now. I don't bother with "under glass". Consider it finished. Thanks for sticking around! ๐ค

A little update....three steps forward, two steps backward ๐ Due to the unusual amount of sanding (that's a b.s. excuse, Jimmy ๐ฅด) I found it had become necessary to restore the belt molding. The usual remedy was employed. Well.....how about a mock-up? ๐ค It always makes me feel better. But not much. ๐

So I've heard, Topher. I have a flight of Createx iridescent colors in a drawer that I've had for years and never tried. Some day....it may be too late, though. It's probably all dried up.

Thanks, Craig. I use 2 part Bondo glazing for body work and have been using the Mr. Surfacer for minor nicks and scratches for many years now but only had a problem since I started using Tamiya lacquer color. I've been using their fine primer for years with mostly enamel like Testor's and MM. Between the tape issue and now this...(and I recently bought a dozen cans of Tamiya lacquer color before this little problem showed its ugly face.) it looks like I need to think it through better.

It's not a wild, blown, weed burner....just a very polite, modest hot rod. No fancy paint job. No chrome plated axle or chrome plated shocks. Black windshield frame. Stock body. Fabric roof insert. Love it.
-
See? SEE ?.....thank you Topher! (That didn't take very long ๐)

This was a $10.00 bill plus 7 more for shipping. Somehow, I thought it would be better. I've got to stop doing this. I do have one more Revell chassis.....๐ค
-
I thought I would get at least one guy to agree with me on this coupe. โน
-
It's a '40 tudor. Lots of Testor's enamel applied with a brush. (Funny you should mention the Plymouth, though.) I think it's recoverable enough for a chop. The skirts have me fantasizing about a tail-dragger. I may explore the possibility of using the Plymouth chassis (ready-made I F S - just a thought ๐ฅด) I'll post pix on my old '40 tudor thread; I don't want to devalue yours ๐คฃ

I think this deuce is cool because it still has all the "old fart" hardware on it. ๐ And no bling! ....and maybe the original black paint, too. It looks like it was in a barn for the last 70 years under a tarp and dusted off and well..... anyway, that's how it hits me, QE. A survivor of sorts, but yes...a haircut would be nice....๐ค
-
Hey! Here's a very cool deuce coupe I spotted at my breakfast haunt a few days ago. REALLY look at it closely. IF I OWNED IT I WOULD NOT CHANGE A SINGLE THING.. and how does it make YOU feel? I'm reeeeealy liking the nailhead buick under the open hood. Hardly any chrome. It's like this kid in 1954 took a $150.00 '32 coupe and removed the fenders, dropped the front, and dropped in the nailhead. It looks like a really old build but well cared for. It's friggin' sweet. ๐ hey, I know, but it is my thread.

Hmmmm....๐ค. So it's the primer we all know and love? No ๐ฉ ? ๐ what have you found to be a good time delay between coats of barrier paint and primer? ...and primer never touches putty? Thanks, Dennis, I'll will try it your way at the first opportunity.
-
Probably not, Len. It seems like y'all are revamping old beat-up roaches with eight layers of paint and every decal on the sheet and brown glass and broken A-pillars.....I thought I would join in the fun. ๐ ......ya really wanna see it?
