Monogram '32 roadster: a red-headed step-child.

Moving right along, I added more Evergreen to the chassis and filled the seams of the new rails with CA. I removed the tail pipe "hangers" from the gas tank 🙄. Many kit parts have very thin, fragile attachment points. The front axle is quite flimsy and the attachment points for the tie rod and drag link are not well defined and the instructions are of little help. The backing plates do not seat on the spindles in a positive way making it difficult to get them positioned correctly. Of course, this could just be me 🥴. But I don't think so. Part #26, the drag link, has no connection point on the back end. This could be because there is no steering box 😕. I guess I will need to make one. I replaced the split wish bone with the parts from the '29/30 kits for a better attachment on the frame after removing the "blocks" the kit provides, I guess, for that attachment- it's hard to tell from the instructions. They are much beefier than the kit DJ reminded me to scribe the door lines on the inside of the tub. I used Dymo tape and a dental pick to do that. Not too difficult. I also filled the holes on the rear quarters with styrene rod and CA. Hopefully I get some paint on the bottom tomorrow and then I can get the wheels on. Till then, don't spill paint! -
I was, Greg 🤭 Yes, Greg is correct, Dennis, but those tail lights on that black beauty were just too nice to crop out. The lights you did for your '50 look splendid (there's a word not used often on this forum but should be 😊.)

Today's masterful modifications (well, masterful might be a bit strong 🥴) started with the discovery of a botched attachment of the spring to the axle housing. This masterful blunder was the result of applying CA to the "recepticles". It must have set up on one side as I was pushing the two parts together. The fix was cutting the offending post at the axle, drilling out the glued in post (a very thin pin, in fact) and inserting the remaining portion of the post and gluing (and kicking) the post from inside while holding the two parts parallel. I had considered getting the rear end set with just gluing the spring and then removing the mounting posts but decided against it due to the fragile spring attachments to the housing. I cut the torque tube off, to be replaced with a scratched open drive shaft. The radius arms could be bent out and a mounting fabbed but I'm thinking about using ones from the '29/'30 Revell kits but I'm not there yet. The gas tank, oddly, includes mountings for the tail pipes. This seems wrong on so many levels. I'm not doing that. In order to install a new tyranny cross member, I thought I would complete the frame on both sides so I would have something to attach it to. What's this for? 👆🥴 Evergreen strips were added to fake the frame rails and the cross member was added. There will be some filling and sanding to complete the illusion. Gotta get back to work. More later. -

Yeah, the squirrels are getting to be a problem around here too. 🥴 -

I might see if I could do a channelled roadster using the deuce frame from the 29/30 Revell kits. -
Oh....yeah. I don't know where that came from.....
-
I have done that too, thinking ahead. One bottle should be enough. With some left over. If you are manipulation-challenged like me and spill open bottles regularly, like all over your favorite North Face shorts 😱 ..... then yes - a spare bottle may be a good thing to have handy.

Hey, Andy. Yeah, I'm allergic to fenders so I'm being forced to employ them by default. They come with the frame. What can I do? 🥴. I'm learning that there is a cult-like worship of this particular version of a '32 Ford roadster. -

I buzzed through it, DJ. I did pick up some things. Thanks for the tip! -

If you go into the store daily and walk out empty handed....pretty soon they're gonna watch you as a shoplifting suspect 🧐. You could have some fun with that! 😉 -

Oh....that sucks. ☹ Galaxle hoarder! What about the Falcon? Screw bottom? -

The first order of business is making room for the balanced and blueprinted 327. No, not really, Lenny. It was just yanked out of a Nomad. It's totally stock except for the alternator and a Lakewood bell housing. And the chrome fan that was found hiding under a mess on the bench. Lowering the rear was easy enough. The posts that mount the axle housing were cut down and the tang part of the spring was cut down also. But then I had a brainstorm 🤓... This allows you to keep cutting the posts until you're happy without worrying about the spring. Just glue it to the axle as is. You now have adjustment on the spring. When you've got it where you want it, you can glue the tang from the top side. You need to get the posts cut the same length, obviously 🥴. Thanks. That's all for now. -

Good advice, DJ. I'm not liking the tub at all. -

Well I hope they get them here. Edsel is waiting. How many did you buy? -

Sorry, Bill, I was just kidding about drilling out the louvers. 🤓. I guess if the louvers are rendered really well, painting the open sides could be acceptable. Something to consider the next time it comes up. -

I have some '32 grilles in a box somewhere....I'll look today. I may not use the hood since the engine is the whole reason for getting involved with this. The trouble with fake louvers is that they keep looking fake....maybe I can drill them out 🤔 -

Thanks for weighing in, Ace. The body seems nice enough but they dropped the ball on the all- important grille. Not too crazy about the hood either but it is what it is. It was cheap, though 😉. -

That sounds like a great idea, Greg! But then I might not want to chop them off 😕. -

That kit engine will remain an orphan until I need an SBC with a very short transmission. Or, more likely, if I can find a suitable ski-boat, it may be a good mooring if I can find a suitable chain in Wifey's jewelry box for the bouy. 🙂 -

Thanks for your enthusiasm, Michael. It's about to get even more fascinating! I will be heading to my local Ollie's soon for coffee pods and I always check, hoping that, one day, I will find the shelves filled with '60 Starliners and '64 Galaxies 🥴 -
Wow, Len, I forgot about this one (normal degradation of elderly brain.) Glad to see that one back on the bench. Sweet color. MCW is pretty thin. Their instructions seem counterintuitive. I've used it only once with good results but I have more waiting. I have their enamel, too, as yet untried. Maybe their dark colors need dark primer.
