Thanks, Spike, glad you like it. This is a good kit to go OOB. Lots of detail and great fit on almost everything.

Monogram's 1955 Lincoln Futura Concept Car: WIP

This is the biggest load of ?? I've heard...well, today anyway. Thank you Lenny! ? -
I think I would not wrap the frame with foil. I would install the glass using the "Gold +" CA. It won't fog the glass. Then maybe Molotow with a fine brush. As long as you have a good strong bond, you may be OK to foil the frame. I will use the Gold+ on my vent glass and it should be OK. We shall see. ? With the foil in there I may not need to glue them. Just press them in place. Maybe. Then hit them with clear enamel.

No injuries so far but there's still time. The nose still needs attention. The vent wings have me scratching my head. I just don't know how that's going to work. I have foil there now and the glass goes in from outside. That should be fun. I resigned myself to the blue going un-rubbed. It looks pretty good. It's shiny. I polished the roof and the trunk lid area and I refuse to touch those front fenders again so....that's it. The hood got more paint on it and a coat of clear and the "frosting" is still there but very faint when viewed from a certain angle. The next thing is the nose foiling and oh.....I need to paint the engine bay black ?.....?

Well it's not like I can't use the practice. It's that bad, huh?

Well Dave, I'm getting lots of masking practice on this one. I think I finally have a decent paint job after a half-dozen trips to the paint department. On my second coat of blue, I masked the rear quarter accents with foil because I read somewhere that its a good way to get a precision paint line. Nonsense. The residue had to be removed and alcohol did funny things to the paint earlier so I used Goo Gone to remove the adhesive residue. Then I washed it with Dawn. Twice I had to repaint blue because of rub-through on the front fenders. I finally got the clear on the whole body but it looks like I'm going to need more clear on the roof. I'm getting there but this one won't be super smooth - I just can't deal with the front fenders again. Nope, they're done. Anyway, today it looks like this ?? Woopsie ?

They call that "stalking", Len ? -
If you can't find any, I can go look in the garage.

OH I LOVE THAT!!! I want one ?

.......and I would like to add to that...CARSON TOP! (I think that's what's in the '50 ragtop kit) Yes, a Carson top would be the absolute right thing for a pre-war custom Ford.

The 3W job is awesome, Dennis. Rounding the window frame makes it very legit looking- like it's factory. I'm stealing that idea, thank you very much.
-
Yeah, I know, I know. I dunno.?
-
I guess I should wait to see how the paint job turns out before I make that decision. Thanks, Carl.

I would really like to build this one again but out of the box this time. Its a cool car and a decent kit. Makes a nice gasser. Makes a nice anything.

I've got to think it has to do with the combination of the primer not performing well and maybe the first coat was too wet. I think maybe an extra coat of the Tamiya light primer might help with this possibly. I hate to build up too much primer but it might be necessary to give the color coat a better barrier. Gotta try something.

Think I should weather the engine a bit?
-
Yeah....not my idea ?. Thanks, Len. Thanks, Brian

The phrase "that little bugger" is, I think, not a widely used derogatory, Len. My mother would say it occasionally, referring to me, of course ?.
-
Looks like you had a good day, Dave....uh...oh, Len. ?
-
Today brought very good painting weather so I got some paint done. This is Tamiya rattle can paint and it will be clear-coated using the same. Thanks for looking in ? You can see here where my masking guy screwed up. He has since been punished. I've taken away his gummy privileges for one night.

Yup. That's what I think, Dave, but not because I doubt your ability. Just a matter of time spent and some possible frustration getting it to look perfect. The subtle contours may take a lot of work before they look right and the bottom line is that it probably won't make or break the overall esthetic. I tend to agree with the poster who commented about a mild chop, though. The time spent for that would, in my mind, be well spent. It wouldn't take much. The necessary windshield mod would be the limiting factor. Just my thoughts. ?.
