  1. I looked for that top and found it, and it was rea$onable enough, but the pictures of it didn't show me what I needed to see; I passed.
  2. Thanks, Greg. It's actually something that closely resembles fun. I don't know about 100 times better. Maybe 69.3 times. I'm happy.
  3. Oh. Andy, are any of those 1 :1s yours? Okay, your instructions are a bit different than mine. I would love to have your windshield, though. I am not going to do this again, Andy. I just don't love it enough. There are too many fish in the sea....... but pay attention, kids! Good info here! Thanks, Andy, I appreciate all your input. I just wish I had it a few weeks ago. Who am I kidding? I probably would have done it exactly the way I did anyway ?. BTW, count the squares in the grilles of the 1:1s at the center. I estimate 1/2 - 3/4" difference in height. I still don't know why the kit grille that I have needs to be upgraded. What did I miss? What is better about the '56 grille?
  4. Well, who's Daniel, dam it? Ha ha ha....no, really, I'm LMFAO right now.....it's the booze.... Anyway... I returned to the house from the garage in a somewhat impaired state due to my iintimate relationship with vodka, I entered the "play room" and apparently dropped the roof and ....well, you can imagine my reaction when I retrieved it from the floor. ? Not to worry.... when I was in my working life waaaaay back in the '90s, I worked for a mechanical outfit. One day I was welding something in the shop and I wondered aloud what would happen if I got this thing wrong and another guy said " you can't f++k it up, you're in a welding shop" .....yeah. That's right! So....it's the same way here. It doesn't matter how much you f÷÷k it up, you can fix it easily because you have everything you need to do so! Jus' saying ? The tail light issue can be remedied with a set from the '57 Fairlane or Custom kits, im pretty sure. I wanted to keep it OOB ( ? ) so I added a couple of layers of sheet cookies to the "recepticles" and wanted to see if the kit lights would look "adequate" if they were out farther. They do. They are smaller in diameter but shimming them out gives them a more "factory" look rather than a "Frenched" look. I'm happy with it. I know, I know......? Last night I attempted to attach the T-Bird's windshield frame to the glass with the "GOLD" variety CA. Nope. Made a freaking mess of it. Had to start all over after a polish job on the glass. So I used 5 min. epoxy as a second attempt. So far, so good. You have got to have a back-up plan....full stop. this didn't work out for me; not because it was a bad idea...no....it could have worked. It just didn't................. and that's it for now, folks.....maybe later..... Thanks for spending your time with my brain ?
  5. Oooooo.....I am holding my somewhat diminished COPD restricted breath.....cough, cough...? Anyway, yeah, that will probably be the solution to the "wheel-too-far-forward" issue. Hang in there, Lenny....I feel your pain ?. See my T-bird thread ?.
  6. Steve, I'm beginning to see that building OOB isn't for me.
  7. I think I'll wait for a freshly tooled version, Bob. And that windshield thing? You guessed it. My job today will be to rectify that little mishap. ?
  8. ?....who's Daniel? Wait till you see what I do for the glass ?
  9. Dave, I still have two of those "fantastic $13 bargains" I got from Ollie's in the closet and when I finally recover from building the last one, (which is covered in a light coating of dust and still needs a battery and radiator hoses) I will approach the '41 Plymouth kits with a completely different attitude. ? Most of the front sheet metal will not be used.
  10. There was a time, Len, when I didn't care but after dealing with my current endeavor, I am eager to learn the finer points of chassis swapping. Will you be swapping this one? ?
  11. Thank you, Tony. You may have been looking at Tom's chassis. Mine has a crooked rear cross member in the photo. I have since fixed it. Great fun. Got it all together and now I discover that I forgot to install rear side glass. ?. Typical.
  12. I thought that also, Tom, but his front wheels are exactly on a line. My guess is that he is staged. If he had launched, that line (if it's the staging line and I think it is) should be behind those front wheels, no? And nothing appears to be moving. No blur on the wheels but I suppose that a professional photographer would know how to do that. I don't think I can get that kit as high as the car in the photo but if I can, I'll put a driver in it. ?
  13. I see you have a bottle of ivy green. Nice choice. How's the bottom look on this one? This is the best looking of the stacked headlight Galaxies, IMHO. Party on!
  14. Yeah. I can't help it. Thanks for understanding ?
  15. By God, I'll tell you what I think Lenny! Problem is they won't allow those words on this forum ?. Seriously though, the kit isn't really suitable to be an accurate model of a '41 Plymouth, obviously. It's just raw material to be fussed with and maybe customized and, I dunno, Lenny....it's a cool body style to be made into something other than an accurate '41 Plymouth. Don't feel bad. You have done as much as humanly possible to make it right but it's time to say "good enough" and move on to maybe a ....um.....ahh.....uhhh.....an an AMT '57 T-bird!...uh no, don't do that ?....a Moebius Chrysler kit! ? BTW, you might try to lower the rear and see if it looks any better. It might be a geometry problem. Just a thought.
  16. Today's update: Continued reworking the "stock" hardtop to get it looking like the stock hardtop. I did more Bondo work last night and its close enough so I added some .040 half round Evergreen to form the chrome trim. This was sanded to a flatter contour. Then I needed to find a pair of round items to approximate the porthole trim. I settled on what looks like headlight bezels from my chrome junk stash. Size matters in this situation and these bezels looked pretty close. I drilled holes and set them in with solvent. When I attempted to center punch one to facilitate drilling out the inside, the punch fell right through. Yay. Gotta let them stiffen up though, before I use a drill bit on them. Again, it won't be super accurate but it will be good enough for an old screw-bottom. ? Thanks for checking in!
  17. Yup, you are right. I had a 1:1 '54 and it had the modernized ball joint set-up and an X member. The '53 is not going to work. Oh well ?.
  18. I look forward to seeing what you can do with this kit, Bill, armed with this good Information. I would not have thought of the '56 but I did think about the '53, since I have two of those somewhere. I gotta look at that....hmmmm
  19. Thanks, Justin, I agree totally that this subject rendered in new tooling would be a sure-fire hit with all levels of model car geeks. It's iconic and historic and a true classic. My hope is that a manufacturer like Revell Germany or Galaxy or Moebius would produce a kit of this car with a high level of detail. Just a stock version, in true scale. I won't hold my breath.
  20. Thanks, Andy. Yeah, man, I know about the air cleaner. The "D" pin on the part locates it backward. Lots of stuff like that in this kit. I have resigned myself to making some corrections and a few repairs of crappy molds. It-is-what-it-is. I bought this kit off of ebay in my ignorance and now I am dealing with its shortcomings. It's kinda fun, though, like resurrecting a gloo bomb. I appreciate your heads-ups on these issues. I'm not sure I get the grille fix, maybe you could expound a bit on that.
  21. Oh...sorry, Dave W, I was just clowning as I am especially fond of doing. There is an abundance of members that have been given that great Biblical moniker. I have known many in my life. Davids are there in my earliest memories; some were very good friends. No apologies needed...uh...David ? Sorry, David G, I had to clear that up.
  22. Yes, Bob, ignorance is quite blissful ?. It's amazing how much fun it was when we didn't know any better. ?
  23. Oh boy...." hey Dave, Dave M needs some help, go grab Dave D and Dave J and on the way over pick up Dave A and bring him along...." ? . I know all about that. I was JD for 19 years.
  24. Notice the hubs and their relationship to the rocker panel on the 1:1 and then on the models. Big difference. Got to get 'er up higher. That'll be my priority. Can't wait to start it (a big problem for me ?)
  25. I'm confused....there's too many David's around here. ? I'm not sure who's talking to who!
