Dumbest Question ever asked here: CA glues
kalbert replied to clovis's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
No. -
When I was 10 I enjoyed the show, I liked fast and loud cars, roosts of dirt, and high jumps. I am older now, wiser. The show is terrible, bad writing, bad acting, dumb plots, and a terrible terrible waste of Chargers (and all the stuff that was passed off as a Charger). The choice to put the flag on the car was an unfortunate one, it had the same meaning then as it has now. Regardless of my distaste for all things DoH, I can appreciate that it was a darn fine example of a General Lee. In particular the light weathering really set it apart from all others. I also appreciate that no actual Chargers et. al. were harmed in the building of this example.

I don't comment much here anymore... but had to login to post my complements on these. I'll echo what the others have said, the model looks great, the dusty weathering and grubby interior really makes it.

Nope, I like the first wheels best. The wire spokes that look pretty close to the inspiration. The other two are OK looking but the first set just looks "right".

That's about as good of Christine as I've seen. Nice work!

Believe it or not, Days of Thunder has a pretty good car building scene. Obviously it doesn't happen in a barn like that anymore but shots of the car are pretty close to how its done.

History of Revell's Squarebody Pickup kits
kalbert replied to kalbert's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The Revell 64/65 Chevy Pickup would also be a suitable donor for front suspension parts. The frame on the Street Pickup is just all kinds of wrong, so the 64/65 would be a pretty decent donor for the whole frame other than the rear suspension. -
I built (and crashed) many of those when I was younger. I'd like to build them again but my grownup responsibilities stretch me thin and I can only have so much time and money to do hobbies with, something has to go and planes was it. Someday I'll build some again. Can you still get dope? I haven't seen it in hobby shops for a long time. I do see they still carry some Guillow's kits though.

I kinda like that. It's different that's for sure. I like that the tires are normal diameter, sometimes lowriders have ridiculous small tires. I also like that it's not another red Camaro with side pipes and slapper bars. Cool to see something different sometimes. Are you going metallic brown?

Bummer. The Petty must have only the Hemi? Guess I'll have to get both!

Does the Linberg Petty Belvedere include the slant 6 that the non-Petty Belvedere has? I've a need for both a slant 6 and want to add a Petty Belvedere to my shelf, hoping this would be a two birds with one stone kind of thing.

So maybe instead of getting hung up on those "glaring" faults and itching to be negative, try looking from a positive perspective. Was the model interesting subject matter? Does it faithfully,if not accurately, leave the overall impression it was intended to leave? Find one thing done "right" on the model and complement that aspect. Anyone can find fault in every model built, its not hard. If you don't like what you see in magazine spreads and posted on forums, build better (in your opinion) stuff and submit it.

And I thought I would find topics here that discussed modeling techniques and achievements. Silly me, its the same tired pseudo philosophical pot stirring topic that goes on for pages and pages with non sequitur statements used to passive aggressively degrade members who don't strive to be nationally worshiped model gods.

If I should ever become so self centered, righteous, and arrogant as to think that when I build a model it is so well executed that the entire hobby is somehow better for witnessing its existance please someone call my doctor and have my medication adjusted. This is about the most asinine topic as has ever been started. Flame on, trolls.

Built models haven't got any value other than to the person who built them. Just like nearly all other art forms. And just like nearly all other art forms, commissioned work, and commercial work, can bring in good money if you have the skill to deliver what someone else wants. There may be long dry spells between work, but the work is generally high value when it happens.

How to run a model company
kalbert replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Because online shopping is where the sales are. Hobby shops are closing for the same reason Best Buy is struggling and Blockbuster is gone. People shop differently than they did 5, 10, 20 years ago. The light is as bright as it's been for quite a while, there are good new tool kits coming out, great nostalgic kits being reissued, and kits that were butchered over the years being restored to original condition. I'd say we're doing just fine, and there's nothing on the horizon to indicate otherwise. -
Those look good. Easily the best Days of Thunder models I've seen done.

I got a pair of tires from him last summer, he responded quick to my request and a few weeks later I had some nice tires in hand. Although those are just tires, I imagine if he was working on a couple new masters that could take years. Especially considering I think he makes parts as a hobby to his hobby.

Hell I'm not even done buying what they already released, let alone build what I have!

Paint stripping with brake fluid
kalbert replied to Cato's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Also a Dawn and toothbrush user. Just get the plain blue Dawn though, none of the scented stuff or the stuff with extra hand moisturizer in it. Matter of fact, I give all my bodies a bath in it before paint whether they were stripped with brake fluid or brand new.
