I want to build the Historic Racing Miniatures 1963 Z06 Corvette (a resin transkit) which uses the Revell '67 Corvette as a donor kit. The HRM resin is 1/24 scale but I noticed that box art for the various Revell / Monogram kits (convertible / coupe) shows the scale to be 1/25. Is that a mistake on the box art (with the Revell kits actually 1/24)? Thanks

Let's Go Surfin'

Great topic and model. -
It does seem like the same old... since he gave me the same story when I finally got through on the 'phone. "I remember sending one out..." which I now discount as just a story if he happens to pick up the phone! I won't ever buy from him again and will definitely NOT recommend his stuff. It may look good in pictures but that's all you'll get.

I was wondering if anyone else has had trouble getting parts from Perry's Resin? I've tried e-mailing, telephoning and only got an answer once: The answer was that he sent one out recently - NOPE.

The look of the asphalt is only partly correct as yellow lines are usually painted on top of the grit.

removing paint from clear plastic?

You can also try a bit of enamel thinner on a tissue, then slowly scrape with the end of a toothpick. -
I understand that the AMT 1960 Ford Starliner kit has a well-detailed chassis that will also fit the 1964 Ford Galaxie. The latter, however, has an interior tub with molded interior door detail and other interior pieces while the '60 has a build-up interior. Before getting into major kit-bashing, I would like to confirm that I can cut the interior sides, back seat, etc. from the 1964 Galaxie tub and then use those pieces to build the interior onto the 1960 Starliner chassis. Can it be done and look like it belongs? Thanks.

A wonderful representation of Van Gogh and the art of van painting. Congratulations! -
1:12 Matra MS11 1968

I used to enjoy listening to the Matra sound at Mont Tremblant/St. Jovite in Quebec. It was unforgettable and very distinctive. -
To Decal or Not to Decal?
Ken McGuire replied to Ken McGuire's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot. -
I've recently returned to the hobby and spent time on a '40 Ford Coupe learning my mistakes and areas to improve. I'm now building a '29 Ford Highboy with a blown Ardun flathead (many Replicas & Miniatures parts) which hopefully will meet my goals. I have a theme for this car based on a Von Dutch pin stripe design that was shown in the back of a recent Hot Rod magazine. Lo and behold the Revell '32 Five Window Coupe kit has two decals of that design (one white; one black). My dilemma is whether to use the decals. I am hoping that the paint job (gorgeous metallic, pearl candy) on this model - which will include painted flames - will be great, so I'm wondering if adding a kit decal will be too much, will mar the look, will not look realistic...? What would you do?

When I had a 1967 Ford Cortina GT (many years ago) the clutch didn't last long by today's standards and had to be replaced at about 40-50,000 miles. I would have to put that down to the car itself, but more importantly my ambitions to be from time-to-time either a Formula I star or Drag Race superstar all at the same time on the street. Later with more advanced, modern cars and more experience behind the wheel, I've never replaced a clutch.

Alclad Pale Gold Question
Ken McGuire replied to Ken McGuire's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks JunkPile, it must be something I'm doing or the airbrush needs attention. I didn't have any problems with the other colors. I was using an air pressure of about 18psi with both the #1 and #3 tips. -
I've just started using an airbrush (Paasche H) and was painting small parts using Alclad. I had been able to put Chrome and Polished Aluminum on without problem, but when I tried to use Pale Gold the paint kept blocking the tip (I think). I started with the smallest #1 tip which I had used with the black base, chrome and polished aluminum. It blocked after a couple of passes; I cleaned it, it blocked again so I switched to the #3 tip. It also blocked after a couple of passes. Is the Pale Gold thicker than the others? Is it me?

I'm coming late to the "opinion" party but the option I like most of all is G but the figures would also be ghosted so that the 'rod, 'cycle, and derby car were the only "loud" colors. I also wouldn't glue everything down since you may have another idea down the road.

I don't expect that there has ever been a model kit of the 1937 Hudson Terraplane pickup - a fairly rare bird - but is there any other truck (or car) kit that can be used to get close to the Terraplane shape? I know that one company produces an HO scale of the vehicle but I want something larger (e.g., 1/24). A secondary question would then be: Is the creation of a scratchbuilt, fairly elaborate, grill very difficult to accomplish? The Terraplane's grill is its most important feature.

For some ideas about creating patterns, I've found this fellow in England who has some tutorials on-line. I haven't tried any yet but - as he's a teacher - his explanations are easy-to-follow. http://davidneat.wordpress.com/

Deora - Reissue versus Original kit?
Ken McGuire replied to Ken McGuire's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Thanks guys. -
Is the reissue (MPC) of the 1/25 scale Dodge Deora concept car of similar quality (molding, detail, etc.) as the original AMT kit?

What is a peaked roof?
Ken McGuire replied to Ken McGuire's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks guys, I re-read the various articles on The Grasshopper and I think I mixed up in my mind two different techniques used by the Alexander Bros on the truck. The area that was peaked was the 1932 radiator grill enclosure and now when I look at the photos I can see what Casey mentioned. Sorry for my confusion. -
The Alexander Bros. 1931 Ford pickup (The Grasshopper) is said to have had its cab roof "peaked." Does that mean that the rear portion of the cab roof had height added to it so as to form a slope from back to front?
