  1. I love the color, specially on that car! Get some cream for the side and do a 2 tone with a pearl cream or medium gray with similar metallic. something like this: I tried some nail polish on an AMT 57 Fairlane yesterday. I used Sinful Colors from Walgreens/Walmart. It sprays well, but Lacquer thinner has way to much flash and the paint dries before it hits the body and it has a slight spider webbing effect. According to the bottle, Sinful colors is enamel. I have used lacquer thinner with great success in the past with enamels, but this stuff is weird. It thins down really well, but then it dries way too fast. What brand of paint did you use and what thinner? When I get the chance, I'll upload some pics of my fairlane. I tried contacting the manufacturer to see what they suggest to thin it with. They responded with one simple sentance: "We don't recommend thinning it." I would have thought they would have given some kind of reason or suggestion, but NO. lol I think I'll write them a nasty email and see what kind of response I get.
  2. I have personally seen a LOT of Fox body Capris with mustang GT parts on them. I don't care for the real cars when they do that because it takes from the originality of the Mercury, However, this build looks great. I wish someone would do an accurate resin Capri to fit the modern Fox chassis from Revellogram. All of the old capri kits are like 1:28 scale or something odd like that even though they claim to be 1:25, they seem too small and WAY under detailed by today's standard.
  3. I have to be honest. At first I was a bit skeptical about how you were going about this build. Since I am unfamiliar with the subject matter, to me it looked as if you were playing it by ear. Now that I've looked at some pictures of the real car, compared them with your build, and you have made some significant progress, I must say that you are doing an outstanding job! The more you get done, the more I want to see it finished. I can't wait to see what you do with the roof.
  4. It only took me 2 days to go through the whole thread, but I did it! Being a mechanic by day, I notice a lot of rights and a couple things that aren't so correct. I must say, I am very impressed. The only thing I really have to disagree with is the front struts. Although they look beefy enough, the spindle looks a bit thin and the strut a bit too vertical. Don't think that I'm nit picking your build. I build too, so I know the challenges and compromises that need to be made in order to build something. I love everything about it. I'm going to be showing everyone I know this build. You are certainly inspiring me to get the lathe that I've been putting off for a long time.
  5. So I was perusing ebay looking for datsun models (hoping someone has made a '80 510 wagon...might just give up on that) when I notice there's a lot of Revell Datsun 510 parts for sale. I really have to give it to the guy/girl for being creative trying to make some extra money. Selling PARTS of a model for a somewhat reasonable price....typically $3 plus shipping. Now that would be great if it were a kit that was no longer available for reasonable prices but something as readily available as a revell datsun 510? this cat is trying to make $200 on one kit! I would be willing to pay $3 shipped for a windshield from a Johan Cutlass or maybe a pair of bedsides from a 64 Ford pickup. I guess if a person needs but one bumper or hood from the kit because in their kit it was either not properly formed or just missing and spending the ridiculous amount for a new kit now-a-days (upwards of $30 for a re-issued AMT 49 ford). Really I guess I am just ranting now. I suppose I can't fault the guy for trying to get ahead. I just wonder how much money I could make if I were to list each of my parts box parts up for sale at $3 each. ....50 lb of model parts at $3 each...I could retire!
  6. Miatatom: yes. Walmart, lowest, hobby lobby, etc.
  7. Pavel. Correct. Will not fog clear parts
  8. Loctite GO2 glue, I suggest you ALL get some!!!! This stuff is UH-MAZE-ZING!!!! Dries absolutely crystal clear. is slightly flexible when cured. DOES NOT CRAZE CLEAR PLASTIC!!!! perfect for making lenses for dashboards. I don't think it will craze paint, but I haven't tested that yet. I havent tried to see what it takes to de-bond 2 parts, but so far I can't get the aircraft canopy off of the interior bucket that I glued it to. It isn't incredibly expensive, but just a dot is all it takes so it should last a long time. a few drawbacks: it doesn't dry very quickly at all, so be prepared to wait a while. It is very thick and is very stringy so when you apply it be sure to take your time and use a toothpick or other applicator being cautious of strings. I don't know of anything that will remove it and wiping it is a BAD idea.
  9. I found that GO2 glue at Walmart. I can't believe how strong it is! It doesn't fog clear plastic since it's a urethane type adhesive or something like that. Only thing I didn't like about it is the set up time. Your FC looks pretty good. Not a fan of flat colors on cars, unless it's an accent color. I was unaware the Initial D FC had engine details.
  10. H.O. scale is about the only way I can afford to build "big" rigs. Lol. The Mercury is awesome! I love the weathering on the tow truck.
  11. you"re off to a good start, that's for sure. You definitely have something going there.
  12. Welcome
  13. really nice interior, modern engine, modern suspension, steel wheels with beauty rings and centers. Lots of bright perfect chrome. OR flat tires, busted out glass, trashed inside, on a flatbed trailer being pulled by a tricked out 53 Ford short wide bed pickup.....diamond in the rough.
  14. Many of you may find this truck more of a joke than a serious build...even the builder of it! As it happens, you may have inadvertently built a replica of a real farm/CO-OP truck. Here in good ol' rural oklahoma, we actually have a tanker truck that is sitting on 60 inch tall (monster truck) tires. It is used as a fertilizer/pesticide spray truck for hay and sod farms. It has 30 foot long spray booms on both sides. It is quite a site to see driving up and down the roads in our town. I have to say, you did a great job on the weathering and fitting the body and tank on the chassis.
  15. Very nice! I just have one question (jokingly), How did the liquor sign get so beat up, but the neon tubes are still intact? Seriously, Beautiful job!
  16. Very nice! Back when mini-truckin' magazine first hit the news stand, I built several of these. They were so fun to chop up and modify because you could buy 6 of them for the price of one glue kit. One of them ended up with a transistor radio built into it and the speaker was built into the bed cover, looking like about 50 inches of thundering base! Lol, this model brings back great memories.
  17. You are doing a great job. Can't wait to see more! I've built several of these. The best one,in my opinion, was my box stock 93 Cobra. These are great kits out of the box. They go together so well for such an inexpensive model. Keep up the great work!
  18. Ok, decision time. As the kit was designed, it is somewhat impossible to have the rear lower cab corners installed and smoothed without the interior already in. Plus, with my cab extension, I'm sure the body is weaker and I don't want to risk breaking it by stretching the cab over the interior bucket. So I have to decide if I go with open doors or go the removable/convertible/topless route in order to be able to get the interior installed. I'm considering the open door route because of the way I'm going to scribe new door lines anyway, also I have never done a successful door opening job. With all of the buildups of you guys and your tips and tricks to refer to, I'm pretty confident I can accomplish it. But a topless truck is so cool.
  19. This could give a person an opportunity to make a custom body. Maybe a "THING" body? http://www.dastank.com/VW-Wild-Thing-Car
  20. Very, very nice! I really like how it turned out.
  21. I got a little more done today. I guess I'm going to use the fuel injected 454 out of the AMT Custom 67 Impala. Which I feel absolutely awful for doing because it's such a nice kit. I am not going to lose any sleep though, I'm a Ford/Nissan guy at heart. While building my chassis, I had to place the trans cross member. While doing that I decided to test fit the firewall...didn't fit at all, so I had to rebuild it.
  22. I decided not to build a frame from scratch, that would have taken way too long. Next best thing, which works out quite well, an old Revelle Hot Rod Magazine 57 chevy chassis from the parts box. I cut all the floor boards and cross members out to be replaced with fabricated or otherwise re-purposed bits of scraps from around the house. Chassis with the body mounts for the cab glued Had to mount the bed on here somehow, so I whipped up some legs and glued them in the reciever holes on the bottom of the bed. I'll be adding more cross braces shortly. I realize its a small update, but I've got more coming. Thanks for looking =)
  23. Hi again. I got some time to play with some plastic. I didn't want to leave the bed as a stock ugly box. I didn't really want to use the vette fenders, but it would have been cool. So I found another solution. I found some old airplane wings from a Dornier DO17Z, chopped it up and made something different.
  24. Looks good so far. Do you have any description on your plans for this one? I also have a Star liner kit that I would like to finish sometime. Do you have a link to your previous Starliner? Maybe sometime I will post up The progress I have made on mine.
