  1. While we're playing around here, does anyone remember where this one came from? Definitely amt... area above 'lighting bird' sez 'tuned by the medicine man'
  2. The monogram monkees mustang also had the '83-'85 drivetrain in the updated '87 body shell... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/88095-monkees-87-mustang-gt-50-monogram-124-ragtop/
  3. Or maybe allowed on a case by case basis by application to a mod for those who have proven their chops in assembling worthy threads... you know, guys like Bill
  4. That's an important and fortuitous consideration in terms of improving the base stock. As the windshield/cowl area is basically the same from '67-'79, the amt cab can donate the front part of the cab and roof to make the moeb cab more accurate. The metal axle parts from the amt can also be used on the moeb chassis to expand wheel/tire choices as well.
  5. Looks like the fullsize and the camaro were both built at Norwood and Van Nuys... I'm just curious to know if they were made on the same line at the same time or if that's a pilot line shot like the following posed pic. Note there's no bushings in the rear spring eyes. This pic was probably taken at Lordstown.
  6. Judging from a few of the comments in this thread, it appears the record should be set straight... First off, the proportions on the amt '75-'79 F series trucks are as close to perfect as you're likely to find in a regularly priced kit. True, the upper windshield molding needs finessing and it was indeed a questionable decision to go with the super camper special box. These issues are easily fixed, especially with the availability of the resin corrected box. Secondly, the much vaunted moebius 69-72 series borrowed much of its chassis and engine design from the amt kit. However nicely engineered these kits are otherwise, they share well known serious proportion issues in the roof design and other body areas. To be fair to moebius, this series design problems appear to be confined to this project alone, as their Hudson, Chrysler, Pontiac , Mercury and Plymouth kits appear to be well-spoken of. The '65/'66 F-series kits also show more effort spent on getting the proportions right.
  7. If you can find an affordable '75 'star truk', it will have this chrome shot including the mirrors in it. With a '73-'75 grill, of course.
  8. Measured a friend's '82 last night and it appears amt did get it very close. From the side molding extrusion on the fender side to the top is 9"(.36) on the front and 15"(.6) on the back. The lx coupe fender is too high in the front and low in the rear.
  9. The easiest way to accomplish your project would be to find one of these kits. The 73-75 trucks are on the left upper side... ...and get one of these corrected boxes from MAD resin A more affordable and fairly current version of the truck is the flamed 78 4x4 (2wd parts included) along with the aforementioned rookie resin grill.
  10. Having this one back opens up some potential kitbashing and backdating possibilities for the resin industry. A couple of comparison picks... with '84 mpc body and the, um, 'horse with no name' body For one thing, the '83/'84 fascia could be modified to the '85/'86 look for swapping onto this body, or even the revell body, along with other appropriate detail parts.
  11. somebody needs to redo this pic with trucks... just think... all the way from N or Z scale to 1/16
  12. ...or it goes the other way, with the final toll making the bin look like a scorchin' deal
  13. For those looking to build a regular wheelbase truck, MAD resin was offering a corrected 8ft box... sorry Kris, a little late with this reference
  14. ...And definitely their silver brush paint !
  15. Hard to find anything to add to the well worded requests to have the truck stop reinstated next to the general auto talk so I'll just say one word... Please? I realize having the sections combined will eliminate the histrionics generated when a post about trucks is moved to that actual thread but having it next door on the list is just as good
  16. The overhaul of the forum structure here seems to be pretty well done but I concur with Vinces opinion stated here; general automotive and truck talk modeling threads would be better off separate. Seems like kind of an oil and water mix otherwise. Jes' my 2 bits. ymmv
  17. Great concept, very nicely done!
  18. Could have been inspiration for the amt 'look'
  19. Hard to imagine a more beautiful and appealing combination They're already halfway there, Charlie. The flawed quarters (as Mr Geary so painstakingly pointed out) on the amt gtx/roadrunner are closer to the coronet than the plymouth
  20. With the '70 road runner and gtx kits still commanding a small fortune, it's interesting to see the superbird's average value languishing at about new release price levels. As I had already built one years ago, I acquired another to survey for possible transformation of this body into a regular rag or hardtop. A comparison between the 1/24 monogram '70, 1/25 amt '69 gtx and the superbird body reveals just how wonky the proportions are on the monogram body. You'd expect it to be bigger and you'd be right, but it's not consistently so. Most of the monogram muscle kits from this era shared this little proclivity, it seems. The front fender length is almost identical to the 1/25 cars making this a good source for converting from the coronet fenders on the 'bird. Of course, the front lower valance, bumper and grill(headlight areas are almost identical in size to the original 1/25 grill) need to be narrowed about an eighth of an inch. The front wheel arches match the johan '69 almost exactly, making for only some minor finessing for that aspect. The height of the 1/24 fender requires use of the top half/ 2/3 only to keep body lines intact. The rear of the roof and back window require attention as well. Perhaps the whole roof from the amt satellite/roadrunner/gtx would be the best fix unless you choose to build a ragtop. Just some ramblings from the peanut gallery... YMMV
  21. ...and they could all (70-72) benefit from at least a 1mm sectioning in height just below the headlight
  22. Looks like a great start! You're making me want to dig out the one that came to me sans chrome, headlights and bumpers and start a remodel into an '01-'03 look, with 5.0 motivation
