The overhaul of the forum structure here seems to be pretty well done but I concur with Vinces opinion stated here; general automotive and truck talk modeling threads would be better off separate. Seems like kind of an oil and water mix otherwise. Jes' my 2 bits. ymmv

Hard to imagine a more beautiful and appealing combination They're already halfway there, Charlie. The flawed quarters (as Mr Geary so painstakingly pointed out) on the amt gtx/roadrunner are closer to the coronet than the plymouth

building 1969 - 70 Roadrunner in 1:25 scale
mk11 replied to WoodyRDC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
With the '70 road runner and gtx kits still commanding a small fortune, it's interesting to see the superbird's average value languishing at about new release price levels. As I had already built one years ago, I acquired another to survey for possible transformation of this body into a regular rag or hardtop. A comparison between the 1/24 monogram '70, 1/25 amt '69 gtx and the superbird body reveals just how wonky the proportions are on the monogram body. You'd expect it to be bigger and you'd be right, but it's not consistently so. Most of the monogram muscle kits from this era shared this little proclivity, it seems. The front fender length is almost identical to the 1/25 cars making this a good source for converting from the coronet fenders on the 'bird. Of course, the front lower valance, bumper and grill(headlight areas are almost identical in size to the original 1/25 grill) need to be narrowed about an eighth of an inch. The front wheel arches match the johan '69 almost exactly, making for only some minor finessing for that aspect. The height of the 1/24 fender requires use of the top half/ 2/3 only to keep body lines intact. The rear of the roof and back window require attention as well. Perhaps the whole roof from the amt satellite/roadrunner/gtx would be the best fix unless you choose to build a ragtop. Just some ramblings from the peanut gallery... YMMV -
...and they could all (70-72) benefit from at least a 1mm sectioning in height just below the headlight

94 Ford Ranger
mk11 replied to Rbray47's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks like a great start! You're making me want to dig out the one that came to me sans chrome, headlights and bumpers and start a remodel into an '01-'03 look, with 5.0 motivation -
One of them is probably this one, Scott. 'Assembled' by Bill Neumann using pics of Don Emmons' projects published in R&C. (done without crediting Mr Emmons)

How old is Revell's '29 Ford closed-cab pickup?
mk11 replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Fortunately, this is one of the rare kits that has contents equaling the appeal of the art ... and yes, ignore the trolling; as Casey mentioned, lots of us share this affliction. -
Stand alone engine kits
mk11 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
With a little help from an a-daptor kit.. as Mr Cash put it... Spotted this pre-assembled one at a swap meet. Wish I'd kept the pic of the big scale Ford Indy engine I missed on the big auction site a few years back. -
This one might deserve its own thread. It will be interesting to see how they achieve the '67 only door panels, grill, heater controls (knobs instead of slide controls) and a smaller radio face. If the grill is just a rehash of their toy-like '69 rendition with different center bars, it's good to know rookie resin has you covered with a pretty accurate replacement.

What did you see on the road today?

Reminds me of Vince Gill singing 'she might have took my car keys, but she forgot about my old john deere' ...apparently written about an anecdote involving George Jones -

Nice work, Bob! Is this the original kit engine or sourced elsewhere? Interesting that they hang the generator so low. -
Butterworth had an interesting life, writing under many different pseudonyms; including Griffin, Douglas and Williams. Those names definitely ring a bell in my memory as authors of books I've read. Now the search for them begins Thanks for the input!

Black tiger at Indy is a good one; got it here somewhere too along with another hardcover 'drag strip danger'.

Many of us interested in 1:1 and scale cars had certain influences that steered us into these hobbies like friends, car novels and books. I seem to remember an editorial a few years back in R&T (I think) where the gent recalled the influence of 'The Red Car' on his choice of career. Here's a pic of some I have. There's a few other racing related stories I read as a teen but danged if I can remember the titles and authors. Do any of you guys have or remember other titles?

Great concept and work on this, Steve. Got a couple here I'm eying for similar conversions. -
Not sure if I can say it out loud here, so I'll whisper...it's on another well known model car site

I find this box art rendition infinitely more appealing than the previous incarnation. Watched an online review this morning of the new offering and agree it's a must have ...even though I have two of the first run already. One thing I wish they'd done was supply tires along the line of the vintage scale firestone gum dipped style of big and littles. The track tires don't seem to have as much appeal for me. ymmv
