Love it!

Great build, Darryl! I think you've really captured the essence of Starbird's latest iteration of his famed Predicta. I know he says that this shade of blue is his idea of the perfect color for the car, but I personally have always liked Monogram's Candy Red version. Would love to see you build one painted in red...

I didn't think that there would be much interest in either the Gremlin or Pacer reissues, but they apparently are selling well. Can the Pinto be far behind??? -

Dave: What's better than seeing the current Wienermobile? Go visit the Henry Ford (museum) in Dearborn, Michigan. In their collection of "cars", they have one of the older Wienermobiles, amongst all the other neat stuff, sitting in front of a "Wiener Cafe". Also, several years ago, I swear that I saw a "Peepmobile" on the road (you know, like the little marshmallow treats on sale during Easter). -
Only 5 hours, and it even has *mirrors*! ;-) Al, great job! I can't do it in 5 weeks, much less 5 hours. I envy your talent.....

"The Great Gatsby" the movie and the Cars.

I drive my wife crazy by constantly pointing out that sort of thing when we're watching TV or at the movies. ;-) For our friends & family who are not car nuts, it's enough for them if the vehicles, clothing, or buildings just *look* correct. Drives me crazy, though... -

I've been fortunate to sit in a Duesy. I'm a pretty big (wide) guy, and I can tell you that two (2) people my size would not be comfortable sitting side-by-side in the car. The Duesy's are big and long, but kinda narrow. The seat sure was comfortable, though. Kinda like sitting on a leather couch in your living room... -
Hey Custom Mike: Where do I sign up for that "Sean Haters Club"? ;-) You know that old saying, "A Clean Desk is a Sign of a Sick Mind." Sean does some beautiful work, though. That man cave is really something!

Ditto - I like it!

Yeah, I was expecting Britt Reed to step out of this one.... Really nice, Al.

Ed: FWIW, I have also been working on a '55 gasser project based off of the venerable AMT '55 "shoebox" kit. Another problem to watch out for, if you haven't already noticed, is that the chassis of the AMT has the exhaust system already molded in place - quite a bummer to fix. After making some test fits, I found that the nice plain chassis from either Monogram '55 convertible or '55 hardtop (both 1/25 scale) will fit the AMT with minor adjustments...

The Unappreciated Ford Mustang
ToyLvr replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I actually thought that the body style wasn't too bad, and I liked the smaller body better than the bloated '71-'73 units. Mechanically, it was a much different story... During my college years in the mid to late 70s, I had a job as a parking valet at a fancy restaurant in town (great job for a kid who loved cars), so I had the experience of driving lots of different cars. My main memory of Mustang IIs was things falling off of them, and cheap materials used in their construction. BTW, I've a nice '75 Mustang II "Mach 1" promo available for trade. Send me a PM if interested.... -

All of the above warnings should apply to *storage* of your cans as well. A few years ago, I had some spray paint cans stored in a cabinet in my garage, which is not climate-controlled. It can get pretty hot there during the Summer On evening I heard a BOOM in the garage, and upon investigation I found that an old can had exploded in the cabinet. I think that the bottom of the can had sort of rusted our and became the weak point. It was huge mess! Fortunately the cabinet absorbed most of explosion, and the mess was mostly contained there. No car in the garage at the time, either - I got lucky that time, and learned my lesson. -
Yeah, Peter, I have to join the gang and say Excellent! This one really got to me, though. As a senior in high school, I got to drive the 1:1 of this Caddy (same color scheme) in our homecoming parade. It was my first experience with driving a car that big! As part of the deal for the homecoming committee to borrow it, I had to promise the owner that it would be returned to him thoroughly cleaned and detailed. Do you have any idea how much time it takes to wash, wax, and detail something this big??? But it was worth it...I still smile when I think of it almost 40 years later.

I was a pretty regular customer at the HT in the Cincinnati area when I worked in that vicinity, and I learned a few things about them. I can't say that this will work for you folks in other areas of the USA, but if there's a kit you want and you think their price is outrageous, just complain to the manager. I did that on more than one occasion, and pointed out that I could buy the kit online from Tower Hobby (or take your pick of internet store) for a lot less (having done my homework ahead of time, of course). The manager would meet - or beat - the online price, and I saved $$$ on shipping charges by not ordering online. Win-Win for me. Since these stores are a franchise unit, the manager has the final say on the sale price. Give it a try; whaddya got to lose? This manager seemed truly interested in keeping my business. I haven't been there in a while, but I'll mention for you folks in the Cincy area that the HT up in Mason is pretty well "car model friendly" with a fair selection of kits and supplies. I would say that their mainstay, though, is RC. BTW, I almost fell off my chair when I read that Harry actually shopped at a brick-n-motar store!!! ;-)

Cute and whimsical, just like the song :-) Sadly, we're coming up on the 40th anniversary of Jim's death. Wish he were still around to entertain us. Thanks for reminding us about him, Pat, and thanks Harry for posting the link to the song. What a trip down memory lane....
