why do some people insist on details?

I attend contests for several reasons. 1. To spend time with my son doing something we both enjoy together. 2. To see old friends and make new ones. 3. For the competition. 4. To show off my work to everyone. 5. To see what other builders are doing and to see what they are building and to get ideas. 6. For the swap meets Nd most importantly to have fun. A friend of mine who builds models and competes once told me that once the model is on the table thats when the competition begins. And the visiting and shopping starts. -
you thought the carpet monster was bad?

That picture reminded me of my oldest son who at the age of 4 took i think 10 of my kits and opened them up and had them scattered all over his bedroom. My wife said the look on my face was priceless. She said it looked like i didn't know whether to be upset, laugh or cry. My wife and i spent two hours to try and sort it out. I think some of the kits are still in my stash. Funny thing is he now builds and competes with me at the contests now. Priceless. Love the photo brings back memorys or nightmares. Lol. -
NEW TOOL. BATTERY POWERED DREMEL.
azers replied to azers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mine does everything my electric one does including the chuck which appears to be exactly the same. Every dremel piece i have tried in it has fit including my cut off wheel. It looks like oster commisioned dremel to build their filer they just made it battery powered and put the oster name on it. If interested ill post a picture. -

My two cents worth. I like to use aftermarket items as well. I feel they enhance the model. But i also follow the basics. I do not feel that aftermarket items should be used to cover shoddy workmanship. At a contest once i was competeing in a person entered a 32 ford and put down a full page list of all the aftermarket stuff he used on it. The total dollar amount was over 100.00. He didn't even win place in the categories because there were nicer cars. He threw a fit because he didn't win anything until they announced the major awards and he won the best use of aftermarket pieces award and best detail which started a furor among the other contestants. Imho model building and competeing is about building skills, manufacturing items needed to enhance the kit, and using aftermarket pieces to enhance the kit. Not how much money can i spend and how much stuff can i stick on my model. Too many times at contests especially popular choice you see the ooh shiny attitude of i like that one so im going to vote for it because it has shiney paint or tons of photoetch or aftermarket items. But it can have lousy engine detail scratches in the paint or glue blobs on the glass, they vote for something like this and ignore the nicer well thought out and built cars in the class because theyre suffering from the raccoon symptom, oohh shiney is my one pet peeve. -
So aside from decals you could build a grand national out of this kit. And is there a big difference between the two as far as decal sheets go. Or would a person be better off to locate s old sealed kit of a grand national.

I don't normally collect or build funny cars or dragsters, nut the early years appeal to me. Unfortunately i am not well versed in whats good or bad in kits. I was thinking about picking up the blue max but not going to now. Does anyone know the actual color of the car in some pictures it looks white and some it looks pearl white.

I still buy sae magazine. But i really enjoy model car magazine. The other magazine seems to cater to only the large shows and east coast as well. I dont recall seeing very many how to articles like model car magazine does. I used to participate in their forum but quite because their forum does not have the comradary this one does. You guys are a lot more helpful too.

NARROW WOODLIGHT HEADLIGHTS FOR PACKARD
azers posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I am looking for a supplier resin or otherwise for these headlights. They were popular on cars of the 20s and 30s. They are call narrow woodlite headlights. I want to build a replica of clive cusslers car from his latest novel and these are unique to this car. Any help is appreciated. -
Has anyone anything good or bad to say about the release of the polar lights petty talledega?
-
I have a couple of petty projects to do. I need a source of petty blue in spray form for his 70 superbird and his 69 talledega. Any ideas.
-
I will try and post a few pictures tomorrow.

I don't have the blue max kit to compare. The top does appear to be chopped though. Maybe one of the other members here might be able to compare bodies.
-
Thanks for the help. Now i need to figure out what to use to duplicate the head and valvecover and intake exhaust manifold.
-
Ok question what color is the bounty hunter looks like white or a pearl white. And what is the best spray clearcoat can go over the decals without damaging them. Ideas?
-
Just picked up the new kit of the bounty hunter. Nice kit. Kit comes with two sets of front wheels a set of spoked and the halibrands. My example is a little wavy around the side openings. The chrome tree is plated nicely but shows flash on some of the pieces but very usable. No warpage on the frame. The exhaust pipes are going to need to be drilled out, there is also some flash on them that need to be removed. The decal sheet is really nice and complete. The printed slicks are really nice. Actually thinking about moving this up near the front of my build list.

Thanks for all the kind comments. The b bodies are actually one of my favorites. I would like to see new tools of the 69 b bodies in 1/25. Revell, are you listening?

Should have went there and bought it. Her paws are as big as golf clubs. Lol. Probably would have been cheaper than the pet store for the same thing. -

That's whT i also noticed is that on low speed i can do things without melting the plastic. Which is what my regular dremel on low speed couldn't do.
