    Do you mean Ronson lighter fluid? I use B12 Chemtool carb cleaner myself.

    Tamiya acrylic paints have a drying agent in them which can make them dry too fast for brush-painting, I thin them with isopropyl alcohol and a drop of water so that they don't dry so fast and it works much better for brush-painting.

    I would start by annealing the brass to make it soft and easily workable, this is done by heating the brass with a torch until it is cherry-red, then immediately quenching it in water.

    Let the can sit until all the solids are at the bottom, then carefully cut the top off the can without disturbing the contents, then pour off the liquid and use a spoon to remove as much of the pigment as you want- the metalflakes should have settled to the bottom.
