  1. I break just the tip off a #11 X-acto blade and use the backside.
  2. Some isopropyl alcohol labeled as "rubbing" alcohol contains lanolin and fragrance- usually it's the 70% version, and yes it will fisheye. I haven't had that problem with the 91% stuff.
  3. No need to spend the big bucks for Tamiya thinner, I just use cheap 91% isopropyl alcohol from the drugstore
  4. The nerves to my right deltoid muscle were severed in a motorcycle crash in 2008, the neurologist was not optimistic about my chances for recovering my deltoid function but on the advice of a friend I started eating Lion's Mane mushrooms, both in freeze-dried capsule form and fresh mushrooms I grew myself. After about 8 months my nerves regenerated and my deltoid started working again.
  5. The acid residue from Micro-Set is what causes the reaction and can take several days to dissipate.
  6. I've been buying old cans of Orr-Lac spraypaint at the local automotive paint store for $2.50 for a big can. According to the lady at the paint store there's a warehouse in Tangent, Oregon (about 30 miles from me) that has a whole bunch of the stuff. It comes in some old-timey colors that are real hard to find nowadays, like seafoam.
  7. ZERO paints has a Sunoco yellow Tamiya TS47 "chrome yellow" is real close
  8. I wrap models in one layer of very thin foam sheet, then a couple of wraps of bubble-wrap and sandwich them in an appropriately-sized box lined with a layer of bubble-wrap so they don't jiggle around. I used to just use bubble-wrap but I had an incident where the bubble-wrap affected an enamel paintjob so I started using the thin foam sheet between the model and the bubble-wrap and haven't had any problems since. I avoid using tissue as it can be very dusty, and paper towels can scratch paint.

  10. No, new brake fluid will work fine. You just need to make sure it's ether-based and not the newer silicone-based stuff.
  11. I couldn't begin to build a model for $50 You get what you pay for.
  12. I leave my wheels loose so I can rotate them around until all of 'em touch the ground, then glue them in place.
  13. I converted the closet in the spare room.
  14. On the plus side, a heavy snowpack in the mountains helps ensure against drought in the Summer Also, a good hard freeze is necessary for Spring mushrooms to grow
  15. I use dishsoap also but I don't use a whole drop, I just wet my brush and lightly rub it in the dried dishsoap that forms around the nozzle of the dishsoap bottle so the brush picks up a tiny bit of dishsoap then use the brush to stir up my mixture.
  16. TS-26 doesn't cover very well, Dupli-color DSGM153 "classic white" covers a lot better.
  17. In the movie "In the Line of Fire", John Malkovich's character learns how to make a plastic gun by reading modeler magazines.

  24. Was that the OSSM show at the Denny's in Clackamas by any chance? I was there and won 1st and 2nd place in Box Stock, and 1st place in motorcycles. One of my fellow club members was ribbing me afterwards, asking if I needed a box to carry all my awards... I told him "No, I brought a grocery bag..."
