  1. Alright so out of curiosity I wanted to do a test using model master flat black and testors's smaller bottle of flat black. I purchased a badger paint mixture which I have wanted for quite some time,it is an absolute must have!!!! I mixed both bottles thoroughly for the same amount of time each and found that the smaller testors bottle had a flatter sheen than the larger model master. Also, I found that the airbrushing these lays down a much flatter sheen than bristle brush. It looks like I am sticking with the paint that I had originally grown to hate. Now with a mixer and air I have no reason to not use it.
  2. I too am having issue with the flat black. It's just not flat enough and goes on way to thick.
  3. After 26 years of using testors flat enamels they no longer do it for me and come out looking semi gloss the majority of the time. Can anyone recommend a truly "flat" enamel paint? I'm talking about chalkboard surface flat. I'm thinking I should get away from Testor enamels completely and move over to model master bottles. Is there something better that I should look into? I want something that lays down thin by brush and airbrush requiring minimal coverage and leaving no brush strokes behind when hand painting.
  4. Correct,1/20. I myself didn't realize the scale of it until I went to put it into a brand new display case and it wouldn't fit lol.
  5. Thanks for all of the compliments guys!! I really appreciate it.
  6. Okay great, Thanks for posting the pic!! I have a question on the clear. After you applied the final coat how was the surface when it fully dried, did you have to perform any wet sanding afterward?
  7. Wow the paint color, just wow..... I love it!! Steve, Is the color really called glow orange? I looked it up on rustoleum's site and the only orange they have in American accents is glow orange. I want this!! http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/american-accents/craft-and-hobby-enamel http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/american-accents/craft-and-hobby-enamel-spray
  8. Wheeling, Your lighting used in your pics is pretty dim. May I suggest taking photos of your builds outdoors if you have no brighter lights? It will really make your colors and details stand out more. I cant really tell what colors you were going for. Is the challenger red or orange, and I assume the Camaro is yellow?
  9. The paint consists of 3 coats Testors Italian red lacquer, and 4 coats of Model Master Ultra gloss lacquer clear. I then wet sanded using 4K,6K,8K, and 12000 grit, followed up with polishing compound and brazil carnauba.
  10. I am perfectly capable of wiring up a system to work from scratch, I just don't feel like it. I'd rather get something plug and play pre-made so I can be done and move onto the next build. I did some searching for a few hrs yesterday and found a few kits that may work for what I am trying to do. Thanks for chiming in on this fellas, I appreciate it.
  11. If you are getting brush strokes either your paint needs to be thinned out or you need better brushes. If you are using those Testors brushes throw them away.
  12. I am looking for some sort of light kit or lights for a 1/12 kit. Does anyone selling something specifically for models, or do I have to use a kit that's made for RC vehicles? I figured the RC kits may burn to hot and melt the styrene but I do know that they are lexan safe. I'd like to do something like this guy did years ago. I tried to find a site for him or any current info, but he seems to have just disappeared. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/30/video-sickest-car-model-lighting-kits-ever/
  13. No, this has the box art with the yellow sides and the model is sitting on a bench with paint glue etc
  14. Oh yes! yes!! I remember that build. I was highly anticipating it's completion but the thread was never updated. He even had plugs on the ends, incredible.
  15. As a kid I used to stand in Kay Bee toys in the mid 80's staring at this kit on the shelf, wishing I could buy it. Back then $30 was allot of money to an eight year old. Even after mowing lawns, and doing chores for allowance I could never ...save up the money for this before someone else bought it. They only kept one on the shelf at a time. Fast forward 28 yrs later and I finally found one. I really wish I could have done something about the poor quality out of the box on the glass but it was molded with the imperfections deep in the plastic. No amount of wet sanding could save it, I tried. First time I have ever been disappointed with a Testors/Fujimi kit.
  16. Correct, I would like to make this for 1/12. The wire size is 30 GA
  17. Woah Woah, woah, Serious question, am I looking at the real engine,or the engine from the kit? Outstanding work!!! Where did you get the barcode tags, exhaust tags behind the mufflers and the ford motorsports emblem for the oil filter!!!!! EDIT: Nevermind !! In all my excitement I failed to see the answer already posted lol, sorry.
  18. Ace, I read through that entire thread a few days ago and read his method of how he did this, I think I may have figured it out. The bottom wire is my first attempt, the top is my second but this time I wrapped a smaller guage around a larger guage and it seemed allot easier to work with. What do you think?
  19. I was looking through the big boyz threads and saw a few of the newer cars sporting hand made wiring harnesses to look like the ones with the black plastic covering tape/ribbed plastic on the 1:1's. I have read that it's done by twisting wires together, but I tried that and it just doesn't look as good as others or even close. I searched for a tutorial but found none. Can anyone walk me through it a little more thoroughly or post a link to a tutorial on it? Example at the link: Member Lanesteel240 did this on a gt500 and it just looks amazing. I have always wanted to do this to my newer cars because without them it just seems like something is missing. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71995&hl=gt500&page=2
  20. I love it!!! Especially the color. Definitely picking this kit up. How was the fit and finish overall OOB, did you do a wash on the panel lines?
  21. Wooooooooooooooow Brodie!!! I want those 1/8 and 1/16 kits in the worst way possible. I didn't even know they existed. How is the quality of them outside of the box?
  22. Another beautiful build!!! Was this built using the latest release Revell cobra kit?
  23. Were both the paint and clear used lacquer, or enamel?
  24. Agreed!! Is the Duplicolor that you used ready to spray in an aerosol can and what did you use for clear? Also, are the stripes stenciled on using paint? I ask because every one of these I have seen built the builder has complained of how fragile and bad the kit stripes are ,one of the reasons why I haven't started on mine yet due to trying to decide how I would tackle the stripe issue.
  25. I picked some up from Michaels for $5. I figured the heck with it, I'll try it out and order flocking in the mean time.
