THank you Sam. Yep, thats the chassis that came wit hthe kit. If I remember correctly the frame is separate from the floor pan.
-
Thanks Sam, I still need to pick up the Ranchero. The only trick thing with this build was the front crosmember. It's extremely delicate.
-
Thanks Rick...that color is Tangerine Pearl over a silver base.
-
This is my build of the Trumpeter 64 Falcon convertible. I painted it with HOK Lemon Yellow with a white pearl overcoat. Black & grey interior with yellow piping on the seats.
-
Another of my mild customs. Built box stock except for the engine wiring and the wheels which came from an old 49 Mercury kit. Paint is HOK Tangerine pearl over silver.
-
Another of my Impala builds. I painted this one with Kustom Shop Metallic Lime & I used gold Bare Metal Foil on nearly every piece of chrome.
-
I built this one in 2011. It's an original screw bottom annual. I built it with parts from the kit.
-
Here's one I built a couple years ago. Revell 56 Chevy Nomad, painted Magenta Pearl over a silver base & bright white two tone. Wheels & tires are from the 66 Chevelle wagon kit.

Here is an original screw bottom 60 Impala Ragtop that I got on Ebay that needed a rebuild. It had never been painted which was a plus & it had very little in the way of glue marks on the body. Even the windshield was nice & clear. Here are some photos of what I've done so far: nice box in great condition: Here I've got it in color...HOK Sherwood Pearl with a pearl white stripe in the side trim, finished with HOK clear: Here I've finished the Bare Metal Foil & I've grafted the center section of a 59 Impala rear continental kit bumper onto the 60 rear bumper. I also picked out my choice of tires & wheels, donated from a 62 Catalina kit.:

Thanks again for ALL the great comments. I will start posting more photos of these builds starting with the Ranchero as per Alan's request. I will also post what I'm working on right now in the what's on your bench section.

Thanks for the nice comments guys! Yes, I'm all about saving an old kit whenever possible. I think I actually get more satisfaction from doing rebuilds than building a freshly opened kit. Especially an old out of production model. Alan, the color on the Ranchero is House Of Kolor Kandy Organic Green over a black base. I use a lot of HOK paints on my builds, along with Kustom Shop & factory colors from Paintscratch.com. My clear coat is always HOK UC-35 Kosmic Color Urethane. I'm glad you enjoyed my past builds. I have more photos of these builds as well as older models that I can post if anyone is interested. Just let me know.

Wow, very nice job on the D'soto Bruce! Clean build & your foiling is excellent.
-
Great job on the 67 Tomo! YOu did a good job on the Bare Metal Foil for as first timer as well. It takes some practice to really be comfortable with BMF but your work looks like it was a seasoned pro. Can't wait to see what you do next. By the way....if my workbench were that tidy I'd be a happy camper

Thanks Terry. I almost would prefer Revell to do the reissues anymore as they have really stepped up to the plate & improved their game. AMT seems to reissue with no upgrading where Revell is doing all new tooling, like on their 63 Impala. Very nice kit with a lot of detail. When I was a kid I really didn't like Revell at all. their kits were bad fitting & not proportioned correctly & a general pain in the rear to build. Not so much these days. Maybe the merger with Monogram was just what they needed.

Beautiful builds Bill. I especially like the 61 Dodge Dart Phoenix as I did a conversion on one of those Johan promos several years ago myself. I will post some photos of it soon. I actually cut the hood open, used a 68 Roadrunner chassis, interior & engine. Very nice Duster too!! Hope you continue building into 2013.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate your comments! When I decided to do a "year in review" I had no idea how many builds I had done & was very surprised that I finished 23 of them. I hope you liked my selections as I try to change things up now & then, trying to avoid burn out. I've got a lot of builds planned for 2013 so you will be seeing plenty of posts from me in the coming months. Right now on my work bench I have an original 1960 Impala convertible rebuilder, a 98 Saleen Mustang & a 70 Dodge Super Bee. Jeff, the 58 Sport Fury I believe was from Art Anderson at All American, if I'm not mistaken. I was buying loads of stuff from him back in the late 80's & early 90's. I had actually started that build many years ago & had it painted way back then. It got put on the back burner until last year when I found it stuffed away in it's original box. On the subject of the 68 Chevy wagon...I've seen one on Ebay from R & R Resin, just haven't stepped up to buy one yet. I want to convert one to an Estate Wagon to replicate the car I took my driving test in when I was 16. One of these days...

Thanks guys. This one & my 69 Buick Wildcat are about the first builds that I actually saved from destruction derby. By 69 I was starting to mature & decided I wanted to hold on to the cars I was building. I went through MANY earlier kits...building & crashing, such as my 67 & 68 Cougars, original 65 Impala SS, 64 Impala with working lights & so many more that it makes me ill to think about it. Now I'm paying good money to try & get these oldies back. If I'd only known...but hey I was young

This is one of only a few models that survived from my early years of building. Most of my original 60's builds met with fiery demises. This is an original 69 MPC Impala ss427 that I had originally brush painted with dark green paint. I decided to restore it back in the mid 90's just after I had started using automotive base coat / clear coat paint. I made a vinyl top out of masking tape & sprayed the body with a Cadillac color - Medium Rosewood. Added wiring to the engine, custom wheels & new front & rear bumpers from the Modelhaus.

I see a lot of members are posting what they accomplished in the past year so I thought I'd do the same. This group will give you some idea of my style(s) of building. I built some new on the market kits, some original old annual kits, some resin trans kits & some rebuilds of cars I found on Ebay. I ended the year with 23 total builds so I will be posting their photos in three posts...in no particular order. I hope you enjoy. 1. 1966 Impala SS convertible - AMT original annual 2. Toyota Hiace Van 3. 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang - pre painted body 4. 1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL convertible - restoration of original annual 5. 1971 Ford Mustang Mach I - pre painted body 6. 1966 Mercury Park Lane - restoration of original annual 7. 1963 Chevy Bel Air - R & R Resin kit 8. 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 - New Revell kit 9. 1967 Chevy Impala SS Wagon - R & R Resin kit 10. 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible pre painted body / clearcoated with HOK clear.

Thanks again guys, you've made me feel very welcome here in a very short time. Thanks for the tip on the headlights, Charlie. I've often wondered if there were a way to make the moulded in lamps look more realistic. I will definitely try that method on the next one I do. I will post my "Class of 2012" in just a few minutes. Hope you see a few more there that you like. Gene, I saw that photo when I did a Google search of GP's while researching. I really love that green. If I hadn't already done mine in blue it would have been that color. Ron H., you are lucky to have saved the GP...nearly all of my early in life builds met with untimely deaths I did manage to save my MPC 1969 Impala SS427 that I built in 69. I did a restoration on it about 15 years ago, shortly after I started using automotive base coat / clear coat. I will post photos if you'd like to see it.
