  1. Thanks, Ed (this newfangled tech stuff throws me a curve at times ).
  2. After a few years, I finally want to add an avatar. How do I go about this????
  3. Things are still moving slow here in Palmerica, but I've banged out a little more on my Packard. I removed the headlights and grille header, removed the eyebrows from same and glued it to the body. The lines indicate where I've made lengthwise cuts down the tops of the fenders to form the catwalk between the hood openin and the base of the fender crown, and the leading edge of the T-Bird hood was glued in place. The sprue from the body interior section served as the start of the undercut... and a section the width of the radiator opening was removed and the beginnings of the grille opening were made with an .040 piece of Evergreen. The dome on the hood was made from the cruiser skirts in the '64 Mercury kit (I knew I'd find a use for them .) The dome continues into the interior to become the center of the dashboard. The top of the cowl was reworked to mimic the Predictor, and as soon as everything is shaped properly, the hood section and dash sections will be removed.
  4. Happy belated b-day, Harry. May you have many more.
  5. oh boy, lemme see here... My dog has knocked a few pieces into another dimension with her tail over the years (headlight assembly for '85 Celica, grille for a Lindberg Ford 4x4, spindle and tie rod for a '53 Stude). Looking for an hour for a spindle for a Trumpeter Monte Carlo. An instrument decal I cut off the sheet two minutes earlier. Having similarly sized cans of Dupli-Color lined up, and grabbing the wrong one to paint the hood. Your measurements suddenly don't line up.
  6. Nice job on the resto- did you use the Revell '69 Mach 1 or GT500 for parts?
  7. Sweet looking Duece and a quarter. Gotta love them Buicks. .
  8. Myself, I use Bondo- nothing works with plastic better than plastic. Also, it doesn't shrink, crack or cause problems down the road such as chemically reacting with a painted finish after a few years.. I just bought another small can of it after seven years. The best bang for the buck- five bucks for seven years worth of material.
  9. Now you just need a 1/25 scale lawyer to chase a 1/25 scale ambulance....
  10. I always knew dogs were smart......
  11. No, but we do have plenty of strait jackets. Welcome, David, and the electroshock room is two doors down on the left.
  12. Three asparagus are walking down the street. As they cross the intersection, one of them gets run over by a truck. The other two pick up their fallen buddy and rush him to the hospital, where he's in surgery for 15 hours. Finally, the doctor, dishevelled and exhausted from the operation, comes to talk to the other two asparagus in the waiting room. "How is he , Doc?", asks the first. "Will he be OK?", asks the second asparagus. The doctor then gives them a grim prognosis: "Well", said the doctor, "I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that he's going to live. The bad news is he's going to be a vegetable". (rim shot) I'm here all week, folks- try the veal.
  13. Wow- how did you detail the dash- try as I may, mine are always a hit or miss propsition. Your is incredible.
  14. I don't mind the thought of an off- topic thread as long as it relates somewhat to building. Music, TV and movies can be on topic as a source of inspiration for a build, and some bizarro personal experience from oneself or another member can get the juices flowing. Let's just leave religion, myths, politics, talk radio hosts and other such nonsense where it belongs- between our own ears or a PM to an interested party.
  15. Bill, thanks for sharing your vast knowledge with us- I've found a ton of stuff I'm going to be trying on the Predictor, such as the Tenax to reduce ghosting (even though it's mostly overlays at this point, I'll try it on the cowl area where I removed the wipers). Usually, I'd use the 'Gustavson Method', where you grind below the surface of the plastic and fill it with Bondo. As for the tendon, I hope it heals quickly.
  16. That just looks so 'right' its a wonder GM didn't think of it. I like it.
  17. Yessirree, that is one sweet conversion. Great styling and execution.
  18. Great job on your first build since the Eisenhower Administration. Can't wait to see more of your work.
  19. Very sweet build.
  20. Not too shabby there, Space. I think this is the first time I've seen one of your builds that wasn't a major conversion- you can even do restos. Keep up the good work.
  21. I'd trade my ex- wife for the real MGB...
  22. I almost feel as though I'm looking at my 1:1 Sprite- especially the engine. Great work on both.
  23. I'm not sure of the availibility of similar products across the pond, but I've had great results with Dupli-Color clear on several Tamiya finishes. My yellow Pennzoil Nismo, metallic grey '41 Lincoln and one of my '97 F- 150's (metalic black and light sand) all were painted with Tamiya colors and coated with the Dupli-Color with no ill effects. Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck.
  24. Most cameras have the option of changing the resolution, for example going from a 1600x 1200 image to 800 x 600. You may start out using your camera for models, but there's always picnics, sporting events and crimes in progress you'll want to photograph, so the extra resolution is a good thing to have. But to start, get yourself a tripod. Barring that, use the timer on your camera, rest it on a flat surface and take the pic. My one photog professor told me that humans have an annoying tendency to move (breathing, etc.), and anything over 1/8 of a second exposure time is a sure- fire way to induce camera shake.
  25. I can just imagine pulling up next to it at a stoplight, admiring a great restored old Ford and then getting my doors blown off. Cool.
