Digital camera choices????
Harold replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You need to look at what your requirements and your budget call for. Last fall I purchased a Canon Rebel XSi DSLR. After I dickered with the salesman at Best Buy, I wound up with 1300 bucks worth of goodies for 1100. However, if you don't want to get involved with all the arcana, a good point and shoot can offer performance that was only the province of pro cameras five years ago. I know Canon has a 14 meg point and shoot in the $400 range that offers optional lenses to boot. Look for cameras that have a manual adjustment mode, and use available light as much as possible- one thing I never use shooting models is a flash. Good luck. Oh, and spend some money for a good tripod. -
So that's what 'parody in NASCAR' means...

That is gorgeous. However, since you have a shrinking ray....

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY - EEEHAH
Harold replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
But the Lions went 0-16. Every other team is out there trying to win. Not the Lions. They can't be bothered with the status quo. I feel as though these pioneers have changed football forever. Winning for them became ho-hum several years ago when that visionary, Coach Morningwhey, decided that the secret to success in the 21st century was to lose as many games as possible. It took several years and a few changes in coaches, but with luck and perseverance, they finally made it happen. That's perfection. -
The Turbo Coupe was the 2.3 and built from '83- '88. The Super Coupe (from '89-'92) had the 3.8 V6 with a supercharger.

Man, that's some really sensitive and tasteful design work. I especially like the looks of the front end.

Great job! Gotta love them Buicks...

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY - EEEHAH
Harold replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can't believe the Lions aren't in the Super Bowl, what with their perfect season and all... -
'I build my cars to go, not to stop!' Etorre Bugatti, responding to complaints of his car's notoriously poor brakes. Great car, SVT- Etorre would be proud.

Wow, you really did a good job on that golden oldie.

Really nice build. The weathering is great- like it just did 188 laps at Talladega.

Nice work on the Mustang, James. That black and gold is one of my favorite combinations on those cars. I remember when Hertz starting renting the GT350H- the things would come back from a three- day rental period with signs of having been raced. Things like dings, dents, worn tires, balky or non-existent clutches, knocking motors, evidence of racing equipment having been installed (roll bars, racing seat, harnesses) and swapped back out for the stock stuff before it was returned. Hertz didn't rent Shelbys for too long.

What I really enjoy about these kits is the creativity allowed. I think only three of them come close to being box- stock (the blue Lindberg being the closest). It's just fun to see how many variations I can come up with (and I have plans for several more). I do have a Lightning, but the paint is old and worn, and it'll get a repaint here shortly (I'm also thinking about using the AMT chassis under it, properly lowered, of course). I still can do a box- stock Revell Super Cab, one with an AMT box, a standard cab/ longbox 4x4, a Super Cab/ longbox 4x4 and I started turning a Monogram Interdiction (oops, Expedition) into a four- door cab. This project has been ongoing since 2001.

Gotta love them Buicks. The Skylark was one of my faves, and you nailed it.

Thanks guys-here's a few more for ya. The HD was bought as a very poorly built glue bomb at Deans for $4. Actually, there were two of them, so I wound up with enough bits to restore one of them. I started with the Revell Super Cab and used the suspension and engine from the Lightning (and that's how the Lightning became a standard F-150) and all the HD-specific pieces (interior, grille, wheels, tires and running boards). I had one whole bike that was still on the tree, and two decal sheets. Eventually, I'll have the handlebars chromed or Alcladded. The treadplate on the trailer was done with Bare-Metal Ultra Chrome foil. The grey one started as the AMT snap 4x4. I usedthe extra pair of HD running boards, used the Revell front seats, console and door pulls and the box, grille and headlights from a Lindberg kit. The red one uses the Revell Super Cab and long box with a stretched frame. The two unfinished ones are a near- box stock Revell kit (the black and tan one) and the other is the Lindberg F-150 with the box from the grey one.

Can anyone tell me what this started as?
Harold replied to kk916's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A '67- '72 Chevy. And, man, that thing is so ugly even the elephant man wouldn't kiss it. -
Here's a few of my older builds. The brown truck started as a Lightning. I used the grille, engine, interior, tires, bumpers and suspension from Revells F-150 Super Cab. The color is Dupli-Color GM Autumn Maple Metallic over Plastikote Medium Brown Metallic, with Dupli-Color clear. The darkblue one is the Lindberg F-150 4x4 built almost box stock (I pinned the spindles for posable steering). The color is Testors Arctic Blue Metallic over Metalizer Aluminum, with a Testors clearcoat. This is one of the last paint jobs I did using Testors. Finally, the light blue one is another hybrid. This is the AMT F-150 with the cab from the Revell F-150 standard cab- longbox kit. The cab was always the downfall in AMT's glue kit version of the '97 F-150. However, the chassis is an equal to the Revell piece, and also has poseable steering. Paint is Dupli-Color Ford Crystal Blue with Dupli- Color clear.

If this turns out anything like your Turbine Car, this one is gonna rock. I just picked this kit up the other day (along with several others) and will be following your progress with bated breath....

The Lions- who else wound up with a perfect season ? -

Remember that old BBC show The Prisoner? Just don't try to escape from the island, Komrad Ed. As for the name change, may I suggest 'Johnny Chrome'. -

1963 Ford Cougar II
Harold replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This sould be an interesting project, Bill. According to American Dream Cars by Michel J. Frumkin and Phil Hall, the Cougar II was on the show circuit in '63.
