  1. My simple method of securing the ramps once stowed is a pin welded into place that the ramps slips down over. Also allows for easy stowing access after the car is loaded.
  2. I'm not a fan of the big wheel slammed look but I do like this.
  3. Me, I get an idea in my head and it won’t leave me alone. I start collecting any reference I can find. I want to know how the thing was built and what are its unique features. I throw myself into the subject. I guess that speaks to my obsessive/compulsive personality. I've seen people ask for someone else to decide what they should build - I could never do that. How do you decide?
  4. Very nice. Gotta love a racing Ferrari.
  5. You sure have a knack for finding these diamonds-in-the-rough Ron.
  6. I assume it is the same kit as this issue.
  7. Looking forward to this project Art.
  8. That's the spirit - throw a model together to stave off boredom.
  9. Thanks Tom. Fuel cans and tool box completed.
  10. Some impressive masking and painting but personally the clean red paint over those body lines were all I needed.
  11. Robert Kubica wants to 'relive the thrill' of driving an F1 car Former Renault and BMW driver Robert Kubica says he feels physically ready to drive a Formula One car again and is keen to take part in a test. Kubica last drove an F1 car during winter testing in 2011, topping the timesheets for Lotus Renault just a few days before suffering horrific injuries in a rallying accident in Italy. Although Kubica made a remarkable recovery from the accident, a severe injury to his right forearm reduced its mobility and prevented a return to F1. Since then, he has contested in the World Rally Championship, took part in four GT events last year and is set to make his return to full-time circuit racing in the World Endurance Championship with the ByKolles LMP1 squad in 2017. Speaking to Motorsport.com, Kubica said he had turned down a previous offer to test an F1 car as he was not yet ready at that time. "At that moment I didn't have the confidence to do well," the 32-year-old said. "I know that often some chances only come one time, but I always wanted to be sure about my condition and what I can do. And if I was not sure, I always said to myself, 'forget it'. "My physical condition is not a common one, and few people have experienced similar circumstances. Everyone reacts in a different way -- and that can be a very personal thing." Asked if he would now accept an offer to test F1 machinery if the opportunity arose, Kubica replied: "Yes. Today I would answer differently -- I would like to try a Formula One car. "It has been a while [since I drove one], so I would have to prove myself, but I think I could do it well. I would like to relive the thrill of the Formula One experience." On hearing about Kubica's quotes, reigning world champion Nico Rosberg tweeted his support. View image on Twitter The 2008 Canadian Grand Prix winner and 12-time podium finisher has tried a number of F1 simulators including Mercedes' since his 2011 crash at the Ronde di Andora rally. He conceded even a test session falls short of the demands required when taking part in a grand prix weekend. "I have tried many simulators, and I am convinced that I would drive at 80% of the F1 tracks -- but not all of them. I also have to point out that testing a Formula One car is one thing, a race weekend is something totally different. "In my last three seasons of F1, I managed to achieve a remarkable performance level, a level I think I lack a little bit of now. In 2010 with Renault, I think I did nothing wrong and to get to that level of performance you have to work hard for so many years."

    AMT 289 Cobra

    Nice work Ray.
  13. Thanks Anton. My ramps had some ugly ejector pin marks and tire melt so I sanded them down and added some cleats made from strip stock.
  14. Nice work Gary. I have one of these kits on order.
  15. Historic Racing Miniatures has a new Shelby kit out.
  16. There are kit options available for a two axle.
  17. Thanks David. More axles would allow the trailer to carry heavier loads but would also add weight. I think the emphasis is on light weight to give you more options for a tow vehicle. Haven't studied trailer design but I think a single axle can handle a race car on a short haul. A tail heavy boat might require a different solution.
  18. Thanks Tom. Mounted the springs and added a full axle. Fenders. Current mock-up:
  19. I started with just the center section of the trailer from AMT's '76 Caprice kit. Using some solid square rod I fabricated a simple frame. Then removed the tongue from the main frame section and attach to my new frame.
  20. While I'm in the trailer making business I thought I would also make a lite-weight version. My inspiration.
  21. Thanks Gary. Sorry I don't know if the kit trailer is based on an actual design. Fabricated a license plate bracket and used some brass rod to simulate mounting bolts. I'll need to trim then down a bit during final assembly.
  22. Thanks for the interest in the build. Actually since it is a tilt trailer it really shouldn't require loading ramps but I don't want to re-engineer the whole design. I may build a 2nd trailer with a fixed deck.
  23. Thanks Dave. Grabbed the fuel cans and tool box from the current issue of the Ranchero.
  24. Great news!
