Star Models Resin Realm
JerseeJerry55 replied to 6883michaelw's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Oh WOW I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I had several dealings with Steve over the years although none since about 2018. A great loss for sure. Condolences to his family, and friends. May Steve Forever Rest In Peace. -
Went to Hobby Lobby this morning and picked up the following: AMT 1960 Chevy Short Bed pickup truck w/Go cart Testors One Coat Lacquer Fiery Orange Craft paint Orange Weathering set The "Old Guys Rule" sign Excited to eventually build her (whenever that will be). The plan is making a somewhat mild custom which you might see at the Drive In, or a local track back in the late 50's/early 60's. I'm going to be painting the Fiery Orange for the cab, hood, and bed. Since the roof is two pieces I'm thinking either Testors Graphite Dust, Diamond Dust, or Blazing Black for the top of the roof. The Go cart will be most likely have a Black frame, and an Aluminum shade for the body. Also I thought the metal sign would look good in my display area. Although as much as I love the older (1977 and earlier) pickup trucks I have not built many over the years. I guess it's about time to start.

Very nice. What brand/shade of Yellow did you use?

Found the Re-pop of the kit at Michaels for $15.00 last week. I had this kit in both the Black w/Flames, and the Red Street Rat versions back in 1980, and 1981. Loved it then and love it now. Yes I know there's all that discussion about this kit, and the Monogram 1969 Z-28 out there. How it's not this or that. However being what it is, is good enough for me. Is it a contest winning type kit? Probably not. However it is a shelf model that I can build, and tell my Grandkid "Yeah I built a couple of these back in the 1980's. Well done on your version Erock.

The trailer has been traded.

Good day hope all are well. I have a number of "strip" cars waiting to built. As someone who was born in 1961, the drag cars of the 1970's are where I started to gain interest in the 1/4 miler's (as well as NASCAR, and the Indy 500 cars). So I have a number of examples in various build stages ranging from unstarted (the Revell '66 Malibu Street Machine, and the Revell '55 Chevy Belair 2n1 that I just got), to the following in partial build stages the Revell 1967 Coronet, the MPC Kalitta Mach 1 F/C, the MPC Duster F/C, the AMT 1965 Falco AFX F/C, and the 1970 Dom's FnF Dodge Charger (although this is more or less a glorified street machine/bracket racer). So if anyone has built any of the cars that I have listed i'd appreciate some pics of them. Thank you. Kind regards, Jersee Jerry 55

I have the AMT Miller Beer 40' trailer for trade. It is factory sealed. Pretty open to what I'm looking for in return. If anybody has interest in the kit please message me. Thank you. Kind regards, Jersee Jerry 55

Went back today, and got the Revell '55 Chevy Belair 2n1 kit for $15.00. Just need to decide which way to build it. Gasser, or Street machine.

Underbody paint color question
JerseeJerry55 replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Here’s what I picked up at Michael’s today. All kits were $15 each and the rattle kits were $4 each. Not a bad haul. -
I have a underbody paint color question as it pertains to 1960’s/1970’s muscle cars. Is the underbody the same color as the body? Someone told me yes. But my intention is to use Testors One Coat Lacquers. Or should I just go with good old Flat Black?

Hello all. I am missing the body support from the MPC Connie Kalita 1972 Funny car kit. If anyone has a spare please message me. Thank you. Jersee Jerry 55

Weathering techniques question
JerseeJerry55 replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Trying to weather the underside of my AMT '68 Camaro Z/28. Have never tried this technique before. Usually I just paint it Flat Black and away we go. However we shall see with this effort if I got away with it. -

Brian, Thanks for your reply. That sounds about right. I'll have to give Duplicolor a whirl. I've got a Revell snap Pete 359 that I could use for that primer. Just have to get to late Summer to attempt it. Have a great day. Kind regards, Jersee Jerry 55 -
Paint question
JerseeJerry55 replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Brian hi. I usually paint 10-12 inches from the part(s). I also believe although I painted in a shady area on the side of my house the outside temperature was too hot (95 degrees). So that I believe is my downfall. That being said since I am not in the mood to strip, and repaint the cab of a $50.00+ kit I may just wait a few weeks and lightly sand it down, reprime it, and then repaint it when the outside temps will cooperate. And while I am at that I may just change my username to My Own Worst Enemy. Just a random thought. -
Paint question
JerseeJerry55 replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks Brian. So in essence if I want it more glossy like an O/O truck I needed to do lighter coats, then the final heavier coat. However what I have shown would be more geared towards a weathered company unit such as lets say the Alaskan Hauler KW500? Or am I off base? -

DJ thank you. I have 3 Hobby Lobby's within a 20 mile radius of my home. Maybe today I'll get a chance to go. But have to be careful and stay in that specific aisle. After all it's 40% off models week. -
Paint question
JerseeJerry55 replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Great thanks. I for a moment have contemplated leaving it as is. Then taping off the middle of the body up to the bottom of the roofline, and the top of the area where the headlights are and painting the Red contrast colors. Then applying the Red decals that I have purchased for the project. Thinking it would look kinda weathered. Stiil, on the fence in regard to this. -

Johnny thank you. Now if I could just do actual paint jobs as good I'd be ahead of the game. LOL.
