On this Tbird I started a number of years ago (and like a lot of others) I screwed up the paint and put it back in the box. Hopefully this shows the same paint issue I'm having with the Transtar.

DJ yes the pictures are difficult. It's sort of like a hazy finish some areas glossy, and some areas sort of flat looking. I agree I don't like stripping and repainting ESPECIALLY on a $52.00 minimum truck kit. Thank you for your suggestion. Wondering if I can recoat with Rustoleum White?

Following this build looks great so far. One question in regard to the mirrors how did you get them to fit so great?

Okay great. How do I scuff it up, sandpaper, and if so what grit(s) do I use? I am always fearful in regard to using sandpaper as I always get worried i my be too heavy handed!

I actually think I may have painted it in weather that is too hot leading to the following I saw online Paint drying too quickly: This can lead to a dusty, dry appearance and make it difficult to achieve a good gloss finish. So I really don't want to strip the cab and repaint it so what would be options to correct my painting mishap?

Have a paint question. This morning I sprayed the cab of my Rat Fink Transtar 4070A with two coats of Tamiya Fine Spray primer. Then later on in the day I sprayed two coats of Krylon Short Cuts Gloss White. After letting it dry I inspected the cab and found some areas that are "low spots" that I call them. I guess the best way to describe it is that the areas are not as glosst as some areas of the cab. Any ideas, or suggestions are as always appreciated. Thank you. Kind regards, Jersee Jerry 55

Great job. I really like it. I have a question. How did you succeed in getting the front axle to turn side to side. I'm currently working on mine. Initially it worked, but when I installed it in the frame and I I try to turn it the tie rod bends so now I have to leave the axle with wheels straight. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thank you. Hi i have a weathering techniques question. As seen on the forum I am in the process of building an AMT IH CO4070A Transtar. Since I have both bad eyesight, and arthritis to boot I have chosen to paint the wheels Rustoleum Blossom White, rather than two tone. That being said my weathering techniques are good but not great. So I am looking for suggestions on how to properly, and realistically weather the wheels. Dust, road debris, slight trace amounts of rust are the objective. Please see pic I have attached so something along these lines.

Thanks Brian I appreciate it, I agree it really gives a good contrast. This is by far and away my favorite model kit of all time, and I want to really do a great job with it.

Very nicely done. I'm currently working on my first of two 4070A's, The 2021 "Original" version, and I have a Rat Fink one as well. At this point the only issue has been the front axle turning feature. It worked initially but then something happened that forced me to assemble it with a non turning axle. If this is the only issue then I'm satisfied. On the next one hopefully I can get the axle to turn.

Good thing that I looked at the bottom side of the cab bucket this morning. It appears that cement that I used to glue the two hinge rails didn't set properly at the front so I reglued them at those points. I have them clamped in place as they dry. Then I can shoot a quick coat of semi gloss black on the bottom again. Also planning to weather the bottom so if anyone has suggestions on weathering for that I'd appreciate it. Thank you. Thanks Gary. Here is the latest update. Krylon Short Cuts Espresso is the contrast color. Also laid down some Rustoleum Matte Clear Spray on the roof bucket, and the bottom of the cab. Coming along well I think.

Not sure. Haven't built a kit like this in like.......never so any suggestions would be appreciated. Kinda like the picture of Milner's Ford shown below. I like the full fenders look but am a bit timid to try it. The paint will be shiny.

I have a question about this kit. Should I build it as a Highboy, or with the Fenders? The color choice is set. Going with Tamiya TS56 over a TS30 base. As always suggestions are appreciated.

I could use a little assistance with the best way to go about attaching the AMT Ford Louisville side mirrors. Can anyone please advise how they got them to go on straight, and even? What glue did you use? As always help is very much appreciated. Thank you. Kind regards, Jersee Jerry 55

So the assembly saga continues. In looking at my handiwork from yesterday I am dissatisfied with my acrylic brushwork. Therefore I decided this morning to repaint the interior roof/door bucket using Krylon Satin Boot Brown. I am much more pleased with this attempt. Just need a contrasting color choice for the curtains. Suggestions are appreciated.

Hey all hope everyone's well. So here's my update on the first of my two CO4070A's. Which is what I call my tribute build (sort of) to the one in the instructions booklet. The cab, and the frame were done a while ago. The interior and the engine somewhat after that. I used craft acrylics for the cab interior, and to weather the Detroit. Coming along slowly, but surely.

Very Cool I like it. I had a brand new 1988 Excel GLS. Had her about for 7 years. I could go back, and forth from New Jersey to NJ on about $2.00 worth of gas back in 1991.

Agreed with you masking. IMHO I'm only building for myself and I am generally satisfied.
