I started a few other threads before about spray booths. I am starting this one for visibility, so anyone looking to do something like this might either benefit from what I did, or find a much smarter, easier way. First things first; I spent entirely way too much money, and way too much time doing this. It was worth every penny to me, but there are definitely cheaper ways. • Why did I do it this way? The main reason is I was given the Artograph booth as a gift. Rather than be ungrateful and return it, I decided to use it and build from it. You could do this without purchasing the booth, but you will still need the fan(s) and base. • My goal: 1. A dust free booth 2. A booth that vents outside 3. A booth I can use inside the house, with a single flip of the switch. 4. A booth with high visibility, viewing area, and easy access. •. What I did; I took a brand new Artograph booth, built an acrylic encloser to mount to the booth so that everything is one single unit. The entire front flips open. What would I have done differently? 1. I might have built a similar enclosure, but one that fits all the way around and just covers the booth and sits on the desk, not actually mounts to the desk. This would make the construction faster and you would not need to drill holes in the expensive booth. The reason I did not do this was 2 reasons: I.) I felt I might push the box, or slide it on the desk when my arms were through the hole. II.) I am limited on desk space and this would consume more area. Materials and tools used: 1. Angle aluminum from Home Depot 2. Acrylic panels from Home Depot 3. Dremel with various bits • The wood router bit that comes with the dremel turned out to be the best tool for cutting the acrylic. I used the router attachment against a straight edge for straight cuts, and the circular cutting tool for round cuts. 4. Drill with drill bits. The aluminum is soft, so my Black & Decker generic bit set worked great for the aluminum and acrylic. 5. 4 foot & 2 foot level 6. Square 7. 12" ruler 8. LOTS of work space to spread out and lay out everything. 9. PATIENT WIFE 10. Beer & whiskey The original plan was to cut and assembly everything, get it all buttoned up and dialed in. Then take it apart and paint the metal all nice and professional like. Now that I am done, I'm done. I'm not touching it. In the future, I will probably build another one, as this one has some cracks in the acrylic, the metal cuts aren't perfect, but I will make sure I have the tools or make plans and have someone else cut it up for me. Gloves will be added to the hand holes once I get them. The only open area is at the front, on the bottom. Rather than cutting a large hold in one of the panels for a filter (which will weaken it significantly), I left this area open for the fans to draw air from. I know it's not completely sealed, but this area is outside the booth and below the fan line, so it will be much more unlikely for dust to be dawn into this area. Wide angle lens with distortion, I don't have alien arms The whole front opens with the 4 small hinges I added to the top I can also stand and look down, it is a very comfortable position either way Bird's eye view my corner

and now you know what they.re really for

I prefer V8 muscle, but I can appreciate a good machine when I see one. You're making fun of cars you know nothing about. They aren't front wheel drive -

They aren't providing traction? What do you think they are doing? Some cars get driven hard and do benefit from the spoiler. What about the Cobra R, what do you think that wing is for? There are some pretty ignorant comments on this website from people that claim to be car enthusiasts. -

Electric cars and state and federal gas taxes?
Quick GMC replied to clovis's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
they are already trying to implement a sun tax for solar panels, so I'm sure they'll think of something. -
Nothing kills the modeling motivation like..........

re-design your work bench. Make it different, organize it and it will come to you. -
I bought some 2 weeks ago. I forget what size I'll have to check. Very little cleanup needed. I haven't done anything with them yet but they look very nice. I think I bought the 2.5" turbos. I got them for the Nissan r390gt1 kit but they are way too big. They would be good as huge turbos on a small block or medium turbos on a big block. I would recommend them

Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?
Quick GMC replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
After building several booths and now having a store bought one with modifications, I would say a spray booth under $100 wouldn't be worth it. To keep the cost down, I would build your own, but I don't think $100 would cut it, for a proper booth -
And how does this post help?

Paint Questions and Experiments!
Quick GMC replied to 1hobby1's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I am an experienced painter who still sucks at painting. I think I can help. I like polishing the enamels without clear coat because it gives that authentic vintage look. 3600 won't do anything for you on that orange peel. You need something like Tamiya 800 grit. Then 1000, 1500 and so on. It takes forever but you can polish out You're better off practicing painting and not getting that orange peel. I just polished the engine cover on my f40. Little orange peel hut not much. Because of the shape it took me an hour from 400 to 12000 and polish. This stuff takes time so you want to start with the smoothest finish possible -
I like that you used the box art scheme. It looks good. I might do mine this way

Anyone Have A Sleep Number Bed? Waaaay OT !
Quick GMC replied to Tom Geiger's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I hate it. Worst bed I ever slept in. King size, non reclining. It's stuffed in my closet. We use to have a full size and upgraded to a king. Not for us. I'm 31 with a bad back. The sleep number made it worse. We have a temper pedic in the guest room and I use that when I get really bad We bought a new premium box spring mattress and it's been great. From what I have read over the years is that some people just don't like the sleep number while others swear by it. TEST it thoroughly. It's essentially a top quality air mattress. The problem with the king is it uses dual air bladders, so there is a dip in the middle. I am 6'3" 250 and I take up a lot of real estate. I can't sleep without going at an Engle or moving around during the night, so take that into consideration -
That goes beyond stupid. That's some serious mental sickness.

Yes. He talks about it but I don't recall if it was one particular stunt or a combination of them

that'll do it

He may have snorted baking soda and vinegar.

Considering how much some Cacti cost, suing for damages or cost recovery wouldn't be unreasonable. Johnny Knoxville is stuck with a catheter for the rest of his life. He's a good guy, the rest are questionable.

I bought very close to the bottom of the market in 2008. I got the 5th house I offered on. People were swooping them up with cash at $10k over asking price. My dream house was taken from me. 3 bedroom plus den/office, 3 bath, pool and a nice garage for $185k. Those BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH Canadians came in and offered cash. I ended up settling for a 3 bed/2 bath small garage house as I watched the prices go up. You'll find something, just keep an eye out for the new listings. I offered $5k over asking price so it would hopefully put me ahead a little. When the inspection failed the ac unit and some other stuff I demanded the bank replace and not fix. I was surprised when they didn. New ac, water heater, and appliances

Favorite smells in the shop
Quick GMC replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The smell of epoxy and marble dust in the morning reminds me that we're working hard, but probably not making any money. I have a love/hate relationship with the smell of marble polishing. It stinks, but I enjoy doing it. -
considering the license plate says bag, I'm thinking it's bagged and not permanently that low. Regardless, line of sight being below the tires when you're on the road is just stupid.
