Beautiful job! The classic look for this car!

Nice clean job. I kinda like the "time capsule from the 1980s" decals – looks like you got them to lay down nicely!

Thanks for the comments, guys! Thanks, Robert. The script and other emblems were added later using a set of photoetched pieces for the '57-'58 Ford sold by Mark "The Putty Thrower" Gustavson. They were advertised in an early issue (1979 or '80?) of Model Car Journal or Scale Auto Enthusiast. I think Model Car Garage has a set for '57 Fords but your '59 Galaxie would use different parts. I don't know if they have a set for the '59 Fords.

Interesting comments, Scott & Bill! I've always liked '61 Buick Lesabre & Invicta series more than the Olds 88s. Something about the radically sloping decklids on the Olds, in concert with the skeg fins gave me the impression that it was a design that had had its "wings clipped." And I always kind of liked the way rear panel on the Buick was "notched in," complementing the "pointed out" front end design – sorta like an arrow! I think what makes the '61 Pontiac design so successful is the way the relatively high-cut rear wheel opening, and tucked-under lower front and rear bumpers and lower rear quarters (The Chief don't need no stinkin' skegs!) give the impression of it being a smaller, lighter car than it actually was. This was true even for the extra long Bonneville! The lovely sweeping roofline on the two-door hardtops added to the impression of lightness, enhancing the "flow" from front to rear and feeling of motion, especially when the car is viewed in profile and the 3/4 rear view.

That's cleaning up nicely, Ron!

Vintage Kit Review: AMT's Other 1/25th '57 Thunderbird
John Goschke replied to John Goschke's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Go for it, Bill! If anybody can pull it off you can! -
Nice work! Love the paint, especially those smooth fades!
-
Kudos to Revell for correcting the inaccuracies in what appears to be a very nice kit!

What Do You Want To See Next?
John Goschke replied to Duntov's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Instead of arguing about whether this thread is stupid, maybe for some REAL fun we could mention the ONE car we NEVER want to see a kit of. I'll start... Pontiac Aztek, in any scale, never, ever. -
Oh, god, no!

I think what we're seeing here are bright photos shot in yellow-orange late afternoon or early morning in light that's brightening the Coronado Red paint on this car to the point where in some of the shots it looks a solid bright red, rather than the true maroon or dark red metallic. In the sun this color will always look brighter than it does on a color chip. In the shot of the front wheel, the color on the fender does look metallic. In the interior shot you can see how the brighter red on the front seat which is Coronado Red "morrokide" looks as bright red-orange as the outside of the car. Pontiac sure got these cars right!

That is a sharp one, Bill! I'm pretty sure that car is "Tradewind Blue," which was actually a good bit lighter, or paler, than it appears in this over-saturated shot. Used on a number of other GM cars that year. Having owned '58 & '59 Star Chiefs, a '61 Catalina, and a '65 Bonneville, I've got to say that the '61 was the best driving car of all of them. Much more balanced than the others.

1971 Chevrolet Nova "Rallynova" Street machine from the seventies!
John Goschke replied to Daniel Lynch's topic in Model Cars
Period perfect! Looks like it would've been the sharpest car on Levittown Parkway in about 1977! All it needs is Cheap Trick on the Quad cassette deck! -
Beautiful!

Nice job on a tough kit! The roof swap makes a huge difference. I like that color combo, pretty unusual for 1960, but theoretically possible for one to have been ordered that way. Looks amazing in that high 3/4 rear view shot! "It's the kind of kit you're glad to see finished..." very charitable description for Trumpeter's Bonneville's! Let's see some more of the AMT '58 and '59!

Even More Inspiration!

More inspiration!....

Oh, baby! Really looking forward to this one, Dave!

Looks great! It's a testament to how far ahead of its time was the '48 Hudson that with a relatively mild restyle the same basic design could look so contemporary in 1954.
