  1. The edge of the flames meeting the edge of the fender at a more or less perpendicular angle sticks out like a sore thumb. At this level of competition one would expect a better design solution.
  2. Brilliant idea for Hawk's crazy little streamliner! Well done!
  3. Great detail work, Tom! Love all that stuff in the interior.
  4. Not Steve, but I can answer the question... That Olds is a kit that was molded white styrene that has yellowed over time. Just as AMT did in '58, when Johan started making kits in '59 they molded them in styrene, which does not warp. Johan continued to use shrinkage- and warp-prone acetate for their promos and friction models at least thru '63 and maybe '64 (can't remember for sure if they used it in '64.) AMT stopped using acetate for their promos and frictions sometime during the '61 model year in favor of "cycolac," which was more stable than acetate.
  5. "Sport Sedan" was a term used by a number of manufacturers in the '50s and '60s to differentiate their four-door hardtops from their four-door sedans. Today "Sport Sedan" seems to mean a sedan, two-door or four-door, with upgraded performance and handling (probably a more accurate use of the term!) 6. Coming along nicely, Rob. The weathering is a great touch. These early '60s Johan Mopars are usually pretty good as far as proper stance and wheelbase length. The main problem is the kit wheel backs yield a too-narrow track width. Adding a spacer behind the wheel back collar and the chassis to space the wheel out farther is the solution. Or using an AMT wire axle wheel back with a longer collar works well also.
  7. Very cool! Nice chop.
  8. That's going to be a stunner with it's finished, Steve! You really brought that interior to life.
  9. Not all two-doors are coupes. Most of the examples show here are sedans, not coupes, which have a shorter roofline, and often only seating for two. If a coupe had a back seat there was usually less leg room, sometimes they had rear fold-down jump seats. The '32 Victoria is technically not a sedan or a coupe, it's a Victoria, a closer-coupled type of sportier two-door that was common in the '20 and '30s. For decades manufacturers offered coupes and two-door sedans... '51 Chevy Styleline Club Coupe '52 Chevy Styleline Two-Door Sedan (note the longer roof on the sedan) Chevy also offered the Fleetline fastback as a four-door or two-door sedan... Incidentally, most of the cars people incorrectly call "two-door posts" are properly called sedans. Some are coupes. Depends on the length of the roofline.
  10. Beautiful build with excellent detail painting! Looks very authentic!
  11. It's rare because it's not a Silver Streak, it's a "Sliver Streak!" Gotta say it's strangely, mesmerizingly impressive in all it's awfulness.
  12. Definitely an improvement!
  13. Nice work!
  14. Jack Leynnwood, one of the great illustrators!
  15. Details are beautifully done!
  16. Some options from the late, great, lord of the air gun, Larry Watson... The purple one (actually a '52) at the top was later redone in the panel scheme below...
  17. Kind of a cool idea from the March '53 issue of Hop Up magazine...
  18. "too many kits, not enough neurons..." I can relate to that!
  19. Very impressive conversion work and great finish!
  20. Wonderful build of a great old kit!
  21. As a worker in a dying American industry (U.S. Steel) when this movie was released (1976) this dark scene rang true then – and though the list of corporations and currencies have changed somewhat it rings even more true today, when the forces of Wall Street hold even more sway over what is supposed to be "our" government, more money flows to the 1%, and there aren't enough jobs at all the Wal-Marts and McDonalds in the U.S. to support an ever-shrinking middle class (never mind the poor)... To paraphrase... "There is no 'Chrysler'"
  22. Love it!
  23. Beautiful job, Steve! Looks great with the wire wheels!
