  1. Cool idea and a great build! As a recovering aircraft builder though I have to point out that the downed Mustang would've more likely had a Packard-built Rolls Royce Merlin. Maybe the Allison came out of downed a P-38!
  2. Nice clean job! Looks period perfect. Wonder why the album cover has '59 Pontiac wheelcover in the middle?
  3. Must've been, Bill, 'cause that sucker sure didn't look like a T-Bird!
  4. Beautiful, slippery Chevy! Very clean bodywork and terrific engine and interior detailing!
  5. That Monogram Sizzler just about blew me off my chair! Love it! The "Holiest of Holy Grail" kits; your makes me want one all the more!
  6. Fantastic color and amazing, authentic looking detail!
  7. Beautiful builds and outstanding photography!
  8. Beautiful!
  9. This looks cool, Dave! The skirts are a great solution and the Impala roof looks perfect.
  10. Found on the '59 Sport Fury website some great reference on the car, including photos of a beautiful, all original Emerald Green hardtop so I'm gonna go with the original plan and do mine in Emerald and Mint greens. The stock red interior just doesn't seem like it'll look right with "pearl white and candy fuchsia," and I'm not sure I need another red car on my shelf! Here's the link to Gallery shots of the green Fury with Golden Commando 361... http://59sportfury.net/showcase/koch/page2.html Lot's of good reference on that site!
  11. Yep, that's a great shot! I agree, looks like a stock interior. If the car was fuchsia and white outside maybe it had a red interior? There's a great '59 Plymouth ad that shows a 3/4 rear shot focusing on the fins and fake spare tire on the decklid of a white Sport Fury convertible with a red interior and the somewhat ironic headline "Good Taste is Never Extreme" Could be just the printing but the red looks like a shade that'd work with candy fuchsia I'll do a Google search to see what other combos are out there but I think the interior choices were basically red, blue, green, and copper.
  12. Sale prices are definitely down over previous years. Definitely a buyer's market if you've got the bucks. As for the show, well yeah, I get a little tired of all the Camaros, Corvettes, and Chevelles separated by 10 commercials. More often than not I turn it off and go work on a model.
  13. Jeff, Dale at Little Motor Kar did the bumpers on this '55 Chevy, '59 Plymouth and '60 Buick The mounted 6" x 9" rack of parts I just had him do, which included bumpers for '58 and '59 Imperials, '60 Buick, '59 Edsel, and '59 Plymouth (plus taillights for the Plymouth) was $22. plus $8 shipping.
  14. WOW! Thanks! This info may change my plans... Originally I was gonna panel paint it like the pics in two original '59 Plymouth colors, pale "Mint Green" and "Emerald Green Poly" (a metallic) assuming one of the the colors on the car would've been the factory paint... Now painting it in Pearl White and Candy Fuscia like the original ragtop sounds real interesting! Would the Candy have been applied over the P. White? Or over another base, like Silver? Any idea what color the interior on the convertible might've been? Any additional info would sure be appreciated. Color photos would rock our world!
  15. Thanks, Bill! It was a mint-in-box kit when I built it the first time in 1976, in copper with a white top just like the car in the '59 Plymouth full-line catalog. I think a kitbash with AMT's '58 Plymouth is possible and probably a good use for that disappointing kit; just beyond where I wanna go with this one. I think Modelhaus probably offers the interior, though the best thing to do might be to use just the dash and steering wheel with a modified AMT '58 interior, since the Johan piece MIGHT be 2/3 the proper depth.
  16. Thanks, K.K. I hope your Dad's buddy won't mind my using them. When Rik posted them on the H.A.M.B. those pics of the Fury moved this kit to the top of my build list! I'll be keeping mine a hardtop 'cause there ain't much of an interior in the model and I just don't want to get bogged down in a conversion. If your Dad's friend could supply any more info about the car in the pics, I and many others would sure appreciate it!
  17. Mocked up with replated bumpers and taillights by Dale Horner Also added positive mounting points for the lake pipes, weatherstripping to the side window openings, and refinements to interior fit. Also front wheel wells to the chassis so you won't be able to look in one side and out the other! Looks like I might need to adjust the steering wheel angle... Then PAINT!... Here's a link to Rik Hoving's album showing the inspiration... http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_car_pho...1738undfto.html
  18. Good discussion here, guys, and thanks to Helipilot for starting it. I build for myself in the sense that I build what I want to build the way I want to build it. But what I build is often influenced and inspired by what other modelers build (as well as what 1/1 car builders have done). I enjoy showing my work, and seeing what others have built on the various forums, at club meetings and contests and talking about cars and models and trading ideas and techniques. The community of fellow modelers keeps me passionate about the hobby and makes me want to build. I’m not sure I’d still be building if these venues did not exist and I was an isolated hobbyist just putting my models on a shelf, never sharing them or the hobby with anyone else. I guess I’d have to answer the question, “Am I satisfied with my work,†with a “yes†and a “no.†“Yes,†because I’ve been able to build some new models in the “Traditional Rod & Custom†style I’ve always loved but never tackled, using techniques I never thought I’d be able to master, reigniting my passion for the hobby. “No,†because as I age and as a neurological condition called “essential tremor†gets worse, causing my left, dominant hand to shake, delicate detail work on engines, etc. has become increasingly difficult and frustrating and I can imagine a time in the not-too-distant future when I won’t be able to build. That will be a sad day, indeed.
  19. Yowzuh! That's an amazing build; breathtaking detail and scale realism from every angle. If you start building traditional rods and customs, I'll have to give up and go back to 72nd scale WW2 planes!
  20. Wow, the paint job and color on this are just outstanding and the white interior sets it off nicely. Good solution for the kit's undersize headlights too. AMT's '62 Vette has its problems, but like any of the old annual kits, you get out of what you're willing to put in; just think of them as raw material!
  21. Nice save on a rare kit! Great color choice.
  22. Very impressive and authentic piece of work!
  23. Absolutely incredible! Extraordinary craftsmanshhip on that chassis; it sits just right and the restyling complements the original lines of the car perfectly. Love the taillights! Gotta love the plastic in those cheapo toothbrushes!
  24. Very clean build! The paint is excellent; color's perfect for the car.
