Tamiya "Mica" Paints
John Goschke replied to camaroman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tamiya Mica red looks likes almost like a Candy when you shoot it over Tamiya Gold or (as in this case) Silver Leaf. This also has Tamiya's Clear over it... -
What is your dream model kit?
John Goschke replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
'57 Buick Special or Century two door hardtop. With Skylark wire wheels, please, and I don't need no super-detailed chassis separate floor pan, frame and suspension. Just gimme a nice interior, ACCURATE body, and a chassis that'll yield the right ride height and track width right out of the box, with four screws and two wire axles. Heck make it a Snap-Kit! All I want to do is build this... -
The package was sent via USPS Priority Mail. It would have taken an extraordinary effort to remove the very legible and firmly attached label from the package. The box used was a typical Priority cube-style box. Should have been there within two days. Obviously my mistake for not using delivery confirmation or insurance. Sent to a trust-worthy buyer, so no problem there, he confirmed correct address on the label. I suppose it would be theoretically possible to get on the phone and trace it back thru the "chain of custody" from the Ambler, PA P.O. to the Buffalo, NY P.O., but it would not be easy because most (if not all) Priority Mail shipments also are handled in part by United Parcel. I will never again offer shipping without confirmation or insurance, and will require all buyers to purchase them.

Beautiful job, Marcos!

Revell preview photos from Toledo NNL #31
John Goschke replied to SteveG's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I like the '48 coupe kit! Not the prettiest chop in the world, but it's better than the Merc, and all the optional stuff is great for kit bashing. It's kind of cool that they're bringing the Black Widow back in it's original form, even it still doesn't have a transmission!. Loved that kit when I was kid and enjoyed rebuilding one a few years ago. -
amt 40 ford plastic colors
John Goschke replied to junkman1153's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This one is an early-mid-'60s issue in relatively rare ivory-colored plastic. The box still used the same art as the original 1960 issue (with the blue flamed custom on the top). As I recall the earliest issues of the kit were black, then opaque gray (not like the milky gray of today's kits), then the ivory shown here, then light blue. All the colors may be found in the first-issue style box. The latter two colors were also used for Craftsman series kits (the '65 Nova SS is usually light blue, and I have a Craftsman '59 Ford in ivory). -
Keep it going, Jon! Definitely looks better. The idea to make it a '57 is a good one, with simpler side trim. These cars definitely look better with the side moldings in place; they just look too plain without it.

Rest in Peace Larry Watson.
John Goschke posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
THought you guys who know his work would want to know. From the Jalopy Journal forum... Posted yesterday afternoon by Ryan on the HAMB; apparently Larry was quite ill. Don't know what the problem was, but as Ryan points out Mr. Watson would likely rather have us focus on his work than his illness. Check it out; five-plus pages of tributes from friends and admirers... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=494180 Sadly Larry passed away early this morning. A true artist and by all accounts a really good guy... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=494545 -
Looks fantastic, Marcos. Love the way the embossing powder more closely replicates the loop pile carpeting than flocking (gotta get me some.) Nice job whittling down the shift lever, too. I think most (if not all) the Super Duty cars were radio and heater delete.

Wow! Stunning workmanship... love the scale fidelity of the suspension work, particularly that front axle.
-
More stunning work, Marcos! Just one little nit-pick... the fresh air vent on the kick panel (ahead of the door panel) shouldn't be chrome. In Brett's post (#53) showing the 1/1 interior it's painted to match the interior. Not that that little detail is going to distract from the stunning quality of your build!
-
Outstanding interior detail work on those two, Aftashox! I guess the problem with the Batamobile is once you put the top on nobody'll see all that great detail.
-
Excellent! Thanks for the tip, Marcos.
-
Interesting idea, Marcos. Can you clarify a little... Are you brushing the Future along the edge of the tape to prevent seepage under the mask?
-
That cleaned up better than I'd have expected from the first photos! Looking forward to more progress on the resto.

'69 Plymouth Barracuda notchback

Beautiful build! Love that body style! -
Thanks, guys! If I was starting the project now, I probably wouldn't do the Connie kit (if there was ever a car that didn't need extra length behind the rear wheels, this is it!) Bill, you need to finish that '55 Fairlane! Happy to help in any way I can with your '58 Olds project. The dealer albums I've got (Color & Upholstery and the other one that shows the cars in detail) are invaluable references, but can be heavy drugs for someone with a case of "Advanced Modeler's Syndrome (AMS)!" As for the dash, I kinda look at it now and think "how sick is that!" And all without an Optivisor.
-
Oh, yeah! Hats off to you, Jon, for moving forward with this project! Great work so far and look forward to seeing progress. That shot with the steel rule gives the clearest demonstration yet seen of the critical flaw in this kit that we "rivet counters" have been whining about since day one!
