  1. Very nice!
  2. Nicely done! The removable hardtop is a great idea! The car has very cool, aggressive look with the roof off.
  3. Nice restoration! I wish I could find an early issue of this kit that was affordable. Just screams '60s cool!
  4. Nice builds! That '53 Chevy is really super!
  5. Beautiful build of a nice old kit! Makes me sorry I sold the one I had!
  6. I spoke with the Lindberg rep at NNL East this past April, and they had just received the boxes for the Gremlin. He stated that the incorrect scale was a typo and the kit was indeed a reissue of the old 1/20 kit. One would've hoped that they'd put some kind of correction sticker on the packaged kit if they weren't willing to spring for a reprint of the boxtops. Obviously they opted to do neither one. They should hear (courteously) about it from purchasers of this kit who thought they were getting a 1/24th scale model so that they're made aware that their customers find such errors are unacceptable.
  7. What a great looking roadster! The stance is just perfect and a the choice of parts really sets it apart from the multitude of Deuces out there.
  8. Nice! Great looking color combo.
  9. Terrific work so far, Bill! Great looking subject too.
  10. Thanks, Peter. The scallops were done the old fashioned way. The car was painted the metallic base color, then the scallops were designed on the car by outlining with masking tape cut in strips about 1/32" wide. Then the rest of car was masked with larger bit and pieces of tape. Took about eight hours over two days to mask. Then the Tamiya Racing White was airbrushed on in light coats to build up opaque color without getting too thick. The masking was removed within ten minutes of spraying to avoid chipping the edges. After the paint was dry 24 hours the scallop edges were carefully wet sanded with 3600 grit polishing cloth before the Tamiya clear was sprayed with a rattle can. And yeah, maybe it could use a "Necker Knob"! Though I think they were illegal here in PA...
  11. Thanks for the comments, guys! AMT's '40 Coupe and Tudor Sedans are great old kits with a lot of potential; simple and look right "out of the box." Wire axles forever!
  12. Very nice! Good job on the grill conversion.
  13. This car is just awesome! Putting a sleek roofline on the bullet bird has been the subject of much discussion in one of the clubs I belong to; while we were jawin' Chopper was doin'!
  14. Love it! Great job all around with a unique approach. Excellent photography, too.
  15. ... well, finished 'cept for the windshield wipers! Early issue, built with parts unique to that issue, including the shorty lake pipes and stock Buick valve covers. '49 Merc steering wheel, Desoto bumpers and dual exhaust from '40 Ford sedan delivery, '39 tailights from Tudor sedan kit. Monogram carbs on log manifold from AMT '36 Ford. Tamiya Racing White scallops over Tamiya Champagne Gold. Hope you like it! External gas cap replaced with gas filler door Stock seat rescribed in period style. Tamiya Metallic Red on Buick engine repeated on rear. "Cutout" connection ties headers to duals. The molding "slots" in the brake backing plates were filled.
  16. Well, Douglas, I guess it comes down to whether you value it more as an artifact from your youth than as a rare kit waiting to be built into a great model. If it was mine, seeing Ron's black beauty and Bob's fantastic blue SS would be the deciding factor for a detailed build. And with all the nice kits available of late '60s-early '70s Chevys you could build your car with just about any engine option available! It's been waiting all these years for you to do it right. Go for it!
  17. I like it! And thanks for pointing that there IS a use for the Lindberg/Pyro Auburn kit!
  18. Beautiful, box-art perfect build!
  19. Love it! Beautiful color and great engine choice!
  20. Though I'm ambivalent about this whole debate, Rep. McCotter of Michigan makes the case eloquently...
  21. Bob, that is really cool! Great save. Those Lancer caps were offered as a custom option in many of AMT's '60 annual kits; a great period touch!
  22. Yow, is that ever cool, Lyle! Terrific in every respect. So many details that set it apart from similar highboys, yet still period correct. Awesome work!
  23. Here's the 2-4V 283 from AMT's new tool '57, with Vette valve covers and air cleaners from the 421SD Catalina to replicate a mid-'50s Corvette engine transplant. A more unusual option might be a Buick Nailhead. I understand the one in the recent reissue '66 Riviera has been upgraded with better detail parts.
  24. Beautiful build, Bernard! Sure looks period perfect so far. Great color choice, too. Looking forward to seeing this one done.
