  1. Great job. This is my favorite kit of all time. Was the suspension functional in your newspaper photo? It looks like its teetering on something.
  2. Its a technique you have get a feel for. Hold your thumb on the curve and pull tight with your other hand as your laying it down. There will be no bunching if you do that. Just practice doing a flame job on a motorcycle tank, and youll be good to go
  3. Yes, its easy to work with and you can get some tight curves with it. Just make sure that your primer and base coat are well cured. I used some cheap junk that was not my norm, and the striping pulled the paint off. Since then, Ive stuck to my regular paint and no problems. Ive heard good things about the Tamiya tape also.
  4. Sam, I recommend the 3m pinstripers tape. Its very strong and very flexible. Then you just mask over it. The tape is only about 1/8 wide. This can be used to make a clean spiral down the drum. Short of that, most hardware stores carry different colors of "plastic tape" that is like electrical tape but the adhesive is not as messy. Ive used this to make fat stripes in the past.
  5. Its a cool build already. I would go with the spoke fronts personally. The tag axle and headache rack are nice additions.
  6. Thanks guys. Small update for this weekend. I had a little paint mishap with the cab. So while that one is taking a stripper bath, I plucked a fresh one from the stack of Cali Haulers. I decided to leave the a/c off this time. I mounted the fenders on the hood now that they are finished. I extended them in the front to close the gap by the bumper. I also added round stock to the edge for the correct shape. I filled in the light holes in the bumper and filed down the overall thickness of the bumper. With the bumper mounted I can test out my hood hinges. Since the grill is cut out, the radiator will be moved a little closer to the grill shell. The chassis is getting close to paint. As for right now, I plan on heavily detailing the engine. The trailer is all painted, and I may have some pics up of it later.
  7. Excellent work Dennis. I will definitely use this as a manual to do the same thing. Thank you for documenting this.
  8. I did this years ago to build a RD600. The hood will have to be sectioned at the cowl as it is wider than the R hood. The ends of the fenders at the cab will have to be scratch built. I plan on making a RD 800 cab conversion(just the cab) if the DM 800 gets reissued, because I just dont like the offset cab. Aitm offers the whole conversion, but thats too costly to buy to build multiple kits. Im sitting on a bunch of DMs that I want to convert to RDs.
  9. This is a very cool, unique build. Awesome work on the headache rack.
  10. Actually, on further inspection I must have put wheels from the Ertl flatbed on it.
  11. Yeah theyre pretty cool. Bad part is, since you have to buy the train car with it theyve gotten a little pricey. The flat car could always be resold though.
  12. I was talking with a forum member about this, so I thought I would share it with everyone. This trailer comes as a piggy back on a G scale flat car. It makes a cool vintage trailer. I forget what happened to the landing gear. Here it is.
  13. Thanks Clayton. I was replicating the way the back of our Pete looked. I know its a new school thing, but I think itll work. I made it using some styrene rectangle tube with angle underneath for mounting the mudflaps. I made tiny aluminum bezels to cap off each light, plus those on the trailer. I should have those on soon.
  14. Thanks Dennis, its alum mesh framed with .060 styrene angle.Same thing on the catwalk
  15. Tonights update: The rear lightbar is ready for primer. I made a mesh catwalk and rear window guard. I decided to go with a single bar in the center of the grill for a continued custom look. Heres it is, tell me what you think.
  16. Someday I will too right now Im just stacking it up. You never know when a resin caster is going to disappear.
  17. Just got this in. Another Fontier resin cab. Its the 1960 GMC 9000. Its a clean casting, worth the price.
  18. Im following, great work so far.
  19. I hear ya, Im the same. Ive had a few forever and theyre just sitting. I came up with a dynamite plan for one of them, but the other ones just sittin there waiting for the phone to ring.
  20. Cool grab Clayton. Its going to be tough to Pete-rize this one! What are your plans?
  21. Looks like its almost ready to add to the fleet. It sure is a good looking truck. Some might say, sexy.
