Ertl Paystar 5000 rex mixer
Superpeterbilt replied to 72 Charger's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Im glad your working on the PTO. Ive been doing research to scratchbuild some PTO's and jackshafts for winches, wrecker setups. Its a big missing link with these kits. Im also making sprokets and checking out some scale motorcycle chain made by Tamiya to drive the winch. Im going to resin cast the PTO. Cant wait to see your progress. Keep on truckin! -
So Im assuming your also building a functional engine, trans , and rears for this also? Seriously, very impressive.

Rusted old Autocar Dump Truck

Before the rust...... -
First off, its not the kit you were expecting. Its the A64B kit with a dump body added. Ive been wanting to do this with a dump trailer kit for years. This was another built up kit. It looked good when I bought it, but when I recieved it the paint wasnt as nice as I though. So I decided to rust it up. I rebuilt the chassis, moved the axles back a little, added a resin stack from AITM, painted the chassis red, and added the dump body. I built the tag-a-long with what was left of the trailer. I applied heat and bent and dented up the bodies and glued some sand to them to simulate heavy rust.Thats pretty much it!

I wanted to post a few of my recent completians, because I have about 100 in progress trucks. This truck was an original issue Pete wrecker with the old cab. It came in a lot of about 10 trucks. I left the cab and hood paint original. I reworked the wrecker body heavily. The chassis was blue, so that was repainted white. I added spoke wheels all around. Diamond Reo rims on the front, and some Ertl IH rims out back. Revell for steer tires and white road boss rubber on the back. I added Mack mirrors to it to add that "Junkyard dogg" bit of style.Headlights are some lantern style found in my junk box mounted sideways. The black stripe was added to cover up a bad tape line by the original builder. With this build I wanted to build an ugly workhorse Pete, and see if you can really do anything with the kit wrecker body. There are a few missing details, no door handles, grab handles, I think the luberfiner is upside down,no winch controls, and wipers are missing, also I need to rust around my door sign better.. The hood is askew on purpose, as is the stack bent.Tell me what ya think

The Peter Plane
Superpeterbilt replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
It actually came with two sheets of decals, and I dont plan on using them. Your welcome to them. As for the Merlin, I forget what engine is in the kit. Im only just learning a lil plane stuff.Im def using the motor from the kit though. I have a few Allisons left, but Im saving them for future projects. -

Awesome build. Great attention to detail!! Autocars are my favorite.Fine job. -
I found a cool page that had tons of photos from the truck races. It inspired me to start converting a few old built ups, into some race trucks.I eventually want to build a section of track and have about 20 or 30 trucks in racing position. Ive always loved the beginning of Smokey and the Bandit 2 with the race sequence. I have 3 trucks Im working on now. I started the 359 first. I moved the tank behind the cab, built a cage around it, chopped the bumper, shortened the fenders, moved the luberfiner behind the cab, cut out the grill screen, mounted the 5th wheel rigid to the frame. My next one will be a Kenworth W925 tortion bar truck. Im moving the cab back and making it a long hood.Pretty much same mods as the 359. Up next is a K123 daycab. I thought to myself, If I was going to race a Cabover at over 100mph what mods would I make? I decided that I would move the engine as far back as I could for better weight distribution (this is actually what led to me rebuilding my Ertl drag truck and then the Peter Plane) There will be more to come!!

So, I was thinkin. There have been a bunch of cool exhibition vehicles built in the 60's 70's & 80's, but what if someone built a Peterbilt with wings? I mean real wings, not false show junk. Of course it wouldnt fly, but who cares? Heres my initial sketch. Similar to the drag truck Im building, I built a chassis and added Pete air ride, Jimmy flintstone cab, and a hood narrowed more than a 351. Made a custom drop axle for the front that will be rigid mounted. After tracking down a 1/24 P51 Mustang kit, I have my wings and engine and tail section. So this is pretty much what I envisioned...... So here are both of my crazy truck projects. a little outside the box for me but these are seriously some of the most fun building that Ive ever had.

I drug out my old pete drag truck for a rebuild, that turned into an overhaul. Actually, most of the original kit didnt get reused. So much for a rebuild !! Anyhow, I decided to stretch it out, lower the body, and add two Allison V12s behind the cab. I started by taking some measurements, and scratchbuilding a whole new chassis.I used the rear axles and air ride from a Pete 378 kit. I started stretching out the body, but still using most of the kit at this point. I was quickly unsatisfied with this, so I build a new rear section still using the kit rear fenders. I bought a Jimmy Flintstone chopped resin Pete cab, and narrowed the hood to a 351 style. I replaced the front fenders and sunk them futher up into the hood. After much Allison applied drag racing research, I started putting them together. I joined them crank to crank with a collar. I wanted almost a direct drive to the rear ends, with only a short driveshaft. I made the motor mounts and got them mocked up. The body is 90% complete. Then, lots of sanding and blending.

Hello my name is Terry Hymel and Ive been building models for about 20 years. I mainly build trucks & trailers, heavy equipment, monster trucks, and whatever grabs my interest. I dont build many cars or street pickups. I scratchbuild a lot of whatever im working on, and very rarely build an out of the box kit. Ive gotten heavily into resin building, and have lots of truck kits from AITM and others. My builds have migrated to included less flash and chrome, and more heavy duty plane jane characteristics. Ive been browsing this forum for a month or two now, and I like the activity.I will post a few of my recent builds.
