Peterbilt 352 Wrecker
Superpeterbilt replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The pic of the Autocar was taken in the middle of it being repainted. It was all red when he bought it, then he repainted grey & blue. I remember we had to go pick it up in the middle of paint to go unload a stack of Macks at the dealership. It was a rush job, so we threw some Harley Davidson headlights on it and drove it there with no hood. I still remember the fan throwing the rain everywhere. This pic must have only been taken a day or so after that. That Freightliner was pretty messed up. The tire blew and ripped the front axle halfway off and destroyed the hood.Right after the re-paint, the Holmes 750 was sold and fifth wheel was put on and the truck wasnt around long after that. That truck is the reason Autocars are my favorite. -

Peterbilt 352 Wrecker
Superpeterbilt replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The pics I have of his trucks are his Autocar wrecker( thats still my favorite truck to this day) and the 359 with the sleeper before the dump body. Sadly that truck was broken in half by the dump body because of a poorly welded ram. What a tragedy. I have an IH 4300 before and after paint. It was a former borden milk truck. Theres a 359 with the wing, and a 2nd Autocar that he had much later. -
Peterbilt 352 Wrecker
Superpeterbilt replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks guys. This truck is almost falling together. You guys are gonna love what happens to the boom. Thats the one Im going with! Great minds man.Its gonna be my classic safety red with white arrow and black outline paintjob that I cant get away from. -
Heres a new project thats coming along pretty quickly. I realized that I only have built two cabovers ever, so it was time to build one. For a brief time my dad had a yellow and white Pete 352 with a dump body on it. My dad was notorious for turning any piece of junk he could get his hands on into a dump truck. He once had a 359 with a sleeper with a dump body on it(ridiculous). Anyhow, thats what I started out building just because it was too silly not to. Part way through, I bought a 2nd 352 because I wanted to build a cabover version of the AMT Pete Wrecker. When the wrecker kit came in the body was already assembled, and because I had cut it down to a daycab the wheelbase was already perfect. So thats how it turned into the wrecker. The next one will be the dumper. Anyway, I was building the kit detroit engine but now its going to Petetrucker. Im about to resin cast a 250 cummins, so the first one is going in this truck. I scratch-built some better cab hinges, cut the cab down to a lean 63", took .290 out of the width of the wrecker bed, moved the tanks forward, cut the bed to fit around the tanks, made some knurled alum fuel caps, cut a window out of the front of the bed, and added .100 strips to the frame to raise the bed. I have big plans for the wrecker equipment that will be kept under wraps until I get a little further. Tell me what you think.

Peterbilt hood conversions
Superpeterbilt replied to Petetrucker07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just moving cab mounts, tanks, batt boxes, and cab back a little. Youll have to lengthen steering arm, exhaust, and air intake. Its not super hard with some planing, test fitting, and a lil evergreen strips and tubing. Its worth the work. Oh! and the most important part is dropping in a V12! -

I dont know whose currently making any, I bought a few years ago. If you want to make it yourself using a 378, Tim Alborn has conversion instructions on his site. I have a few 378 hoods and grills if you need them. www.timstrucks.com -

Looks good to me man! Is this a Western Star with D Reo hood, or a Reo with Western Star tanks and batt box? -
List of big rig truck engines in kits
Superpeterbilt replied to Bgrgbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The AMT california hauler & Pete 352 have 8V71 detroits. I have a few that I wouldnt mind getting rid of. The AMT fords have 3208 Cats, and there was a 12V Detroit in the Tyrone Malone kit that P&P resins sells. The International kits have V8 diesels also, but I doubt thats what your looking for.Thats all I know of V diesels.Hope that helps -
Hello! This is a good kit to start with. Its pretty strait forward. Ive never built this particular version, tho I just picked one up myself. Ive built several of the short haulers, and built a few into tractors. The motor always looked tiny to me under that big hood. Anywhoo, the hood is fiberglass and the cab is steel. I believe the motor is a 3208 Caterpillar, and this was the short hood model. Ive never had any issues with the kit except ancient warped panels for the short hauler box. I will probably add a few details to the ramp bed, like a winch and some shackles to strap the car down. I didnt notice if it had any slide out ramps, if not Ill add those too. Good luck with your first truck!

Its a modified kit hood. Heres a few shots I posted in the truck stop under this topic. I cut off .8" from the end, sliced it right behind the grill to keep it straight when I spead it out, sliced it down the middle, spread it to fit the cab, and inserted a triangle piece to fill the gap.The fenders have to be angled in more at the cab.

Diamond Reo Question
Superpeterbilt replied to Arnd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
After some digging in a 2nd book, Ive found that the short was a C90D & C92 with the BBC being 90" & 92". GVW 24500-86000, GCW 45000-80000, Wheel base 134-236, gas or Diesel engine. Variations of C90: C9042 C9042D C9064 C9064D C9086 These were gas & diesel, but the gas model was a different truck with the older style cab and different fenders with the square inset headlight bezel. The C90D had the Autocar cab with the shortened C116 style hood and fenders. As for your question about the different grills, the best I can gather is that grill first appeared on the Diamond T before the Reo merger. Ive also seen that grill on the " Reo" with the same cab/ hood. The new grill appeared after the merger and Im guessing you could have gotten it either way. The C92 was available 4x2 or 6x4, GVW 35000-60000, GCW 68000-80000, Diesel engine, wheel base 124. Models were C9242D & DL C9264D & DL -
Im going to add a 2nd truck to this build. This is a Junkyard Diamond Reo Apollo 92 Short Hood Triaxle Dump Truck. This truck has been pulled together from the junkbox. This is an A.I.T.M. resin frame, D Reo cab & hood, KW batt box, pete & kw tanks, aux trans with two drive axles and one tag axle with a Hendrickson walking beam rear suspension, and air leaf axle.1st drive axle is air leaf, 2nd drive axle is 1st axle in walking beam, last axle is solid tag axle.Cummins engine, spicer trans ,modified trailer dump body. I have been wanting to do this for awhile, so I started pulling stuff out of the junkbox and putting it together.

Diamond Reo Question
Superpeterbilt replied to Arnd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but I cut off .8" from the hood. Here is the lines that I cut to spread the hood properly. Yours is lookin mean man! That a great looking truck already. I will check my book later and give you the info.
