White road boss....next up....
Superpeterbilt replied to tbill's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
No it doesnt really exist. I just like having a little fun with my builds. I build it as it could really exist, but may not. -
Your collections, show them off

There are a few that I havent. I havent gone back and posted anything from the other forum. With all the moving them around building the display, a bunch of them need a little TLC. Plus it seems that they either never get finished, or get rebuilt 4 times. Its a sickness. -

Im in the process of building my display area. I have one shelf completed. I covered the shelf with old instruction sheets and resin coated them. I capped the shelves off with 1x4 with the sides of truck model boxes glued to them and also resin coated. I put the faces of the boxes on the back wall. The shelf is backlit with LED ropelights. There will be three shelves in all, the top one being plexiglass to view from underneath. -

If I can make a suggestion, cutting the hood down in length a little can make the truck look and build out a lot better. The hood can be a hard fit out of the box. Heres one that I was working on. -

In my opinion, only 75% of this kit is usable. The rear suspension and axles need to be junked as well as the wheels. A styrene strip needs to be added to the whole length of the bottom of the frame to actually make it C channel. The kit is worth buying for the engine and the body.If you have extra axles & susp in your junkbox, a little kit bashing can make this a decent truck. -

World's largest diesel engine

I was building something similar to this using a Revell visible V8 cut in half. Whenever its done, I have a Giant Autocar with 11 axles of lowboy to set it on. I had stumbled on to these pics a while back and was loosely using them for reference. That motor is Crazy! -

Peterbilt 352 Wrecker
Superpeterbilt replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I got the mesh guard made for the window and framed in tiny angle. Ill let the cat out of the bag on what Im doing with the booms. Im still waiting on the 2nd kit to come in, but there will be dual booms. They will be fully rotating in sort of a Holmes style. So Im calling this a Holmes/Hientz body. -

Heres two of the winches and their cradle. As with this whole build, its going to be 90% AMT and 10% styrene scratchbuilt. Im working within the confines if the kit with a little extra detail. Its too easy to go full blown scratchbuilt and it takes 5 years to finish. -

Heres some pics of the 250 Cummins Im workin on.I machined some 4 groove pulleys, made the exhaust manifold dump from the center, reworking the intake manifold got rid of the upper pulley, and mounting plate. I still need to relocate the starter to the opposite side, and scratch build the older style oil cooler.Im also detailing a fuller gear box and adding a resin auxillery. Idk if any cabovers had twin sticks, but Im pretty sure my dads old transtar did. -

The Peter Plane
Superpeterbilt replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks Sean. With a truck build I can usually envision the finished truck down to every detail. With this build, the idea was so off the wall that I had to sketch it to even know where to start. This whole build is new territory. The plane kit made me feel like a ten year old sitting down with my first model again, even though I didnt use that much of it. -
I just wanted to wish all the scale Truckers a happy fathers day. May all your kitchen tables be filled with Ford Race Haulers, Diamond Reos, White Road Bosses, White Freightliners, Peterbilt Wreckers, KW's, and whatever other kits may still be in the stores. Hopefully my 3 year old daughter pre-ordered me a California Hauler, and asked for a Caterpillar. I can hope cant I !!
