  1. I have bought from Illini. Top notch castings of old Kw's, Hendricksons, Diamond T's. Super nice guy. I have tons of AITM resin also. Frontier resin designs on ebay has some great old school medium to heavy duty stuff as well.
  2. I think it looks fine the way it is. The trucks great. Modeling is supposed to be fun, and exact detail only matters if you enjoy being that specific. Sometimes I do, sometimes I dont. Just my 2cents. Keep truckin' Jacobus
  3. Not that it takes away from the build, but it would not have had top loaders. The springs would have closer to the Hendrickson walking beam. The truck probably had a tag axle and wasnt a true dual drive. I will check my books later, but remember anything goes with truck building. A lot of do it yourselfers built whatever they needed, so a U series could have ended up getting stretched and transplanted dual drive top loaders from a wrecked dump truck with a blown engine. Happens all the time.
  4. You wont catch any flack from me. This is a cool project off to a good start. The motor looks right at home.
  5. Too cool man. Excellent build!
  6. My faves are the Autocar and the Superliner, but they are all super clean trucks.
  7. I dont know how I missed this one. Nice job, and good info on the trackhoe.
  8. Great job. Looks like the real deal
  9. Before I get into this project, I was hoping some of you fellas can answer some questions for me. I would like to know the width of the hood at the cowl, and the height of the cab from the very bottom to the top of the cowl. The more exact, the better. Thanks guys.
  10. And the blood dripping from the steering wheel..... maybe the new owner will finish all of that. This whole diorama was going to take up so much room, and I dont have a lit of display space. I may build another "correct" one someday.
  11. This is very cool. I love the old COE's. I have this same cab that I think will end up being a Ford race car hauler. Ill be watching this!
  12. I read yesterday on the IMDB page that the wreckage was scrapped after filming was wrapped. Idk how reliable that is. If anyone wants to look on google earth, I found out that the crash was at Agua Dulce Canyon on Indian Canyon Road.
  13. Wasnt it Swiss cheese on rye? And an aspirin!
  14. This truck had ovals. The older models had the squares. They can be found on ebay from time to time. I machine a whole bunch of aftermarket emblems, and thats one I plan on getting around to.
  15. Hmmm.........road trip? I wouldnt mind having that front bumper hanging outside my shop.
  16. The movie trucks cab wasnt crushed. The frame is bent that way from the trailer still being attatched when it hit bottom. If you watch the crash, the trailer goes in its own direction after the truck hits, and bends the frame into a pretzel as it seperates. Ill try to find my pics.
  17. Excellent work. This is an often unexplored side of modeling. Not unlike weathering, it takes a lot of skill to pull off a realistic look. A local concrete company had a Sterling blow a steer tire on the Interstate. Lets just say your truck is in much better shape than how that Sterling ended up.
  18. This is about to be going to a new home so I figured Id share it. I built this years ago, and just found it in a box during a clean up. This started as a Pete 351, that was actually a 358. During a botched re-build it turned into this. It has the wrong cab, wrong hood, and wrong suspension but it looks ok upside down. I have a still shot of the Duel truck at the bottom of the mountain and I wanted to reproduce it. I was starting to make a banged up trailer, and a mountainside but none of that was finished. Anywho, take a look before it goes into someone elses collection.
  19. I cant wait to see this thing hooked up to that tri-axle KW. Its looking great.
  20. Your a pro with stripes Alan. Its off to a great start
  21. I buy nickel plated thumb tacks from the hardware store and snip off the tack part. They work pretty good.
  22. Basically just study the photos, and think about racing in general. I dont really have any first hand info on any of this. Im just working from the photos myself. First and foremost, put the tank in a safe place behind the cab. Move anything thats gonna cause wind resistance. Some of these guys were chopping bumpers, chopping fenders, shortening the wheelbase, and adding bars to protect various parts of the truck. Some had custom exhaust. I made my rollbar from solid evergreen round stock heated and bent into shape a little at a time. The roll bar on the Pete was made from square tubing and "I" beam. Keep in mind, there were no high performance truck parts, they raced on highway tires. So any mods would have been homemade, meaning that you can make it too, only smaller. Just pic one out of a photo and have fun. I havent reproduced any one in particular, Im kinda just compiling ideas and making fictional trucks.
