  1. Man I welcome everyone to add to this build and post pics. If anyone is inspired by this, by all means please add to it. This is as much a part of truck history as anything else. And these trucks are too cool not to build!
  2. My next two planned will be a Diamond Reo and a GMC 9500 longhood. Then plenty more Petes and KW's.
  3. I got a little further along with the KW. I added some superboss exhaust, and shortened the rollbar. I cut a hole in the hood and moved the air intake to the firewall. I added the rear wheels from the paystar kit, and fronts from the Autocar A64B kit. On the front wheels I ground the rim back where the ring mounts about .050" because the rim doesnt stick out past the ring enough. I have corrected a set of these to cast. This truck is going to be #60 and will be orange and white.I think thats it for now.
  4. Lookin good. Great color choice
  5. The coolest thing was that crash in 1979 by Kenny Farmer from Alabama who rode out that KW crash. Thats a man right there! I plan on reproducing that in scale. It just might take a few KW's. I plan on building a track with about 20 of these trucks on it eventually.
  6. Definitely cool! Im sure in person the mirrors add a great effect.
  7. I did some decal work on #33. I have a lttle paint touch up to do. I removed the V8 from the truck to replace it with either a Cat V8 or a cummins. So theres no powerplant at the moment, but Im calling it 85% done. The door numbers are a little crude on purpose. I wanted them to look handpainted.
  8. Greg, thats quite a collection also. Sorry to hear about the fire, but it looks like you got out a lot.
  9. What a great collection Alan. You have some pro-built stuff for sure. Im interested to see close ups of some of the trucks in that first picture, like the autocar, and the Freightliner coe with the matching dump trailer, and that red KW logger
  10. Gettin close. Now its just a few more parts to add, then on to the rust and weathering.
  11. Thanks! And as far as the duplicate, its easier than you might think.
  12. Ive adapted some bigger tooling for a guy that had a small lathe/mill combo. It can be done without too much headache.
  13. It relates to the build, and others might consider getting a small machine themselves, so its all gravy man.
  14. Well Im sorry to hear that, or maybe not. Thats the only two jobs Id wanna do. Down here theres no money in trucking. Everyone I know used to have trucks, now theyve all been sold and theyre working for other people. Machinist jobs arent too plentiful either. Anyway, Ive seen some small table top lathes from places like harbor freight that are very affordable. I wouldnt imagine it could hold any kind of tolerance, but should be perfect for hobby work. I make this stuff on a 10,000 lb manual lathe with a mile of runout, and no autofeed.
  15. I machined some pulleys for the booms and winch tower. There will be four on the tower and two on each boom.
  16. I made them on a lathe. I am a machinist by trade. I have been trying to make more detail items that can be machined without going overboard. I turned down some aluminum to .120 and knurled it. I added a slight radius to the top.
  17. Its quality not quantity, and youve built some fine trucks Dennis. I have to tell myself that all the time. Ive only built about 5% of the models that Ive stockpiled. If I didnt exercise self control, Id try to build them all at once! Anyhow, youve got some great trucks.
  18. To allow my exhaust mounts to work correctly, I had to shorten the wrecker body by cutting off .3". While I was cutting it all apart, I decided to shorten the side walls to allow the booms to rotate 90.
  19. I went with frame mounted exhaust so I spent a little time scratchbuilding some mounts.
  20. There were fhree of these used in the movie that were all cement mixers from what I understand. Theres also a photo of just the cab sitting on the ground.Im not sure if any of them survived, but they were used in a few more movies before being retired.
  21. I drilled the front axle and installed aluminum king pins to make it steerable.
  22. I made some new spools for the winches and finally got the 2nd boom together. The booms are mounted through the body and fully rotate.
  23. Got some primer on the dump body. Im hoping to have it painted and bolted down this weekend. Then I can start on the weathering.
  24. I dont fully understand the translation, but Ill take it that you like the truck.
