Hardcastle and McCormick coyote = GT40?
turbo nova replied to turbo nova's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
you are correct, my mk's are off, been a long day. either way was hopeful to see the 40 kit repoped as it seems at least most of the molds are intact and in good shape -
Hardcastle and McCormick coyote = GT40?
turbo nova replied to turbo nova's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
the H&M car was a coyote but the model of it that was recently rereleased used the chassis pan, suspension, engine etc. that was used in the old fundimension GT40mkII kit. everything except the upper body and the glass is the same. I have both kits, you can clearly see where the old fundimensions name was just ground off the chassis plate. -
Since the H&M coyote is based on the old GT40 kit is there any hope/news of getting the GT40 kit repoped?

AMT Parts Pack prices
turbo nova replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Everyone knows what the question was as well as the dance around LOL. Ive seen tooling brought up several times in this thread and while I do understand that tooling requires touch ups and repairs, how many of these parts packs are new tools? while Im happy to have them and many of the reissues now available it isnt lost on me that in many cases a 40yr old tool is being used to produce a kit that cost more than a state of the art modern tool kit. Ive never worked in the production side of the model industry but fail to see how it could differ that much from any other, yes I understand lic. agreements etc. as they to exist in other industries. I hope no one in here gets theyr feathers to ruffled over this thread. I dont take this stuff that seriously. -

I do have a point, cost does not reflect price. My comment was not directly based at your statement but I could see how you connect the two. I am also not stating that the model co's are alone in setting the price as the retailer and distributor add inflation as well. My example was inflated to provide an extreme example but it was done so to emphasize the fact that the two numbers are unrelated. There are in fact many specialty electronics with profit margins that lopsided. -

not really, yes it,s a factor but production, lic, transport, and marketing costs dont set the price. Yes they control the profit threshold but the fact remains if they could make em for $2 and folks would buy all of them they could make for $400, no business is going to price them at $3 the notion that manufacturing cost set market price isnt accurate, never has been and wasnt wide spread until gas price's went nut's. -

the local shop seems to think the reissues are worth what originals where before the reissue. they move ZERO product, sad thing is I buy 2 kits a week minimum but havent purchased from them in years. I fully understand making a profit but try'n to fleece the customer isnt smart IMO -
WOW,,,,,,,,,,Is all I can say .
turbo nova replied to gtx6970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I doubt highly that it will be seen by the public but I hope it is displayed at shows, Good works should be displayed regardless of who the builder is, I understand not competing but showing it. -
What kind of music.....
turbo nova replied to Hot_Rod_Bob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
depends on mood, silence or very heavy rock, its usually one or the other. I keep lithium or hair nation on XM at the shop all day -

Thats shocking but then again some people think what my customers have in 1:1 stuff is insane, it's a lot of money but if you broke it down to hours and labor it isnt as impressive. At least this "pro builder" has some legit skill, seen a LOT of so called pro's that are far from impressive. I never want to take my plastic that seriously, this stuff is a fun break for me and I like it that way. -
just looks killer, I hate seeing stuff like this, makes me spend more money. You've done an awesome job.

roof on the fox body, a lot of the 67 camaro is just wrong, and I have a stack of ferrari kits that are warped up BAD. just stinks to buy new kits that are either wrong or really nice kits that are warped, some are warped to the point Im unsure I can boil them strait the mustang I can live with, the camaro is what it is, having $200 in warped kits is just bull

yes, when you sand the base you knock the color and finish off the metallic prism's and the exposed edges are no longer reflective and uniform. If you feel the need its usually best to clear soon after base coat while still in the chemical adhesion window, put down one or two light coat's, wet sand then clear again. IMO decals are hit and miss under clear as some decals will flat out dissolve under some automotive clear. Ive had great luck clearing the base with the clear recommended for it then wet sanding/polishing, then decals and future everything. Thats just what works for me on decals though, not try'n to step on any toes.

cool, I have an old turbonique axle pamphlet somewhere, really a neat and effective part. Nice execution on an out of the norm model.

I open many of mine but I must say when buying I will not pay as much for an open kit, IMO a non collecttable kit that's open is worth FAR less than a sealed kit, part of that is the usual reason of everything being there etc. the other part is the fact I don't get to open it, I love opening new kits

no prob, no language diff, speedfreak asked about spray filler so thats why I brought it up, spray filler exist but spray filler and filler/high build 2K primer are two different things. 55 is turning out sweet
-
everyone has what works for them, I used it daily for years and mixing in air is almost unavoidable with a stick and creates nightmares in 1:1 but by all means, what ever works for ya, I was just try'n to keep anyone new to the process from developing a bad habit. Filler primer or 2K as its called is far from sprayable filler, it requires a pressure pot gun and is odd if your not used to it where as 1 and 2k's can easily be applied from anything from an airbrush to an hvlp or even rattle cans. The primers that are used and commonly available to us as auto refinishers and moddlers fall under 1k and 2k primers, sprayable filler is almost always a special order item and is usually in the industrial coatings rather than the typical automotive line.

NEVER mix with something like a screw driver, use a wide flat tool like a putty knife or even a stir stick. The reason why is present in those photo's, lots of air and pin holes. Mix it in like kneeding dough folding it back upon its self until you get a nice even color with no streaking, thats the reason the hardener is not the same color as the filler. FYI to those who make a mess, dont get it mixed before it sets, or end up chasing the filler all over the board you are mixing it on, try kneeding the filler on the board with no hardner in it until you can control the blob of filler and dont get a ton of pinholes, you can practice that without wasting $$$ filler. BTW way spray on filler does exist but is is mainly used on large castings like crane counter weights etc., it doesnt have much use in the automotive world and most of it Im familiar with is about 1/8 thick so it would really bury details and ruin a kit body IMO

the work on this is amazing, the reproduction of finish and detail is very convincing, well done sir. cant wait for more

TALL single plane or sheet metal style intake for sbc
turbo nova replied to MachinistMark's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
dual sheet metals a pretty easy to make, not seen a sheet for a sb in a kit, Ice man olds, reved up racer firebird kits have decent sheet's for a BBC that you may be able to use the top or modify but dual dominators is gonna be huge on a sb -

are there any group builds in here, any interest?
turbo nova replied to turbo nova's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I was interested in the idea for the reasons kalbert listed above, seems every idea has just as many people who dont like it, same for deadlines, over 900 views and 54 responses and no one can really agree on anything it seems. Have fun, model on. -
