  1. i see range rovers broken down by the side of the road, the *freeway*, every day! land cruisers: choice of insurgents worldwide! will always get you safely out of the area even with a "broken back", whatever you meant by that! but yes those nissan patrols are pretty good too. they didnt bring them into the states very long i dont think; here they have xterras. a friend of mine has one he has bruted up a bit and it goes everywhere mine will...and so far ive not backed down from much in my tlc even though i dont like to abuse the equipment unless necessary. that means i dont go over that hill unless theres something i want to do over there! so no FJ60 models, thats what ive turned up too. no diecasts i know of either. shame.
  2. love that build there chuck; a couple questions: you say the exhaust tips are pointed wrong? they look cool to me...whats right then? and tamiya slammed it too low? thats hard to believe. the photos are of the fujimi, right? and tamiya sits lower than that? got a photo of your tamiya build to compare to? many thanks and nice build!
  3. yeah dingo i hear you, its a model and its imagination! about the cobra as i recall the 289s ran road courses with the best of them but it was the 427 that was a straight liner for the most part! good on ya mate. i learned that one when i lived in melbourne and before that png for some years.
  4. nice rig dude! i take it you drive the 1:1 all over the outback? plenty of open space around there; its getting harder to find in america! heres my real one, you dont happen to know of any models (any scale, or diecast) of an FJ60 like this do you? the early days: with ARB bumper, 12k winch and rock sliders: the sharp-eyed might have noticed the fuel injected corvette insignia on front fender. theres a reason for that! in death valley, where i am leaving for tomorrow:
  5. i posted this in another thread but really it belongs here! just got a package from hlj, plus some other stuff from lhs: that toyota mark II 2000 comes with this wicked body kit that isnt mentioned (in english anyway) anywhere on the box. i basically bought it for the wheels and just uniqueness of the model and got surprised! that Lotus book is a real gem too, photos and very descriptive text (in japanese) of every type Lotus from the mark 6 to type 100+ formula one cars, with a separate section for works cars. very nice book and i am glad i spied it on HLJs website!

  7. it might blow away any other skyline...until they came to a curve! cool idea though!
  8. i think a bigger problem you will find will be the clear possibly either having a yellow tint to begin with, or having it yellow with age, and having that completely throw off the color tone of the white. i myself have not painted in white and sprayed tamiya clear over it to know for sure, but i would advise you test it before committing to it. white is a funny color: it seems simple but there are a lot of variations in true tone. i prefer a lot of blue in a white, makes it appear more "white" and bright, but yellow totally kills it for me. your mileage may vary i suppose.
  9. well a few more pics, this time with the wheels on their axles, but not committed yet: ah yes this looks much better than slicks on all four wheels! one problem: the oil pan is near dragging...i cannot get a business card under it but i can get a piece of notebook paper under there without disturbing the chassis! so i am going to call that showcar clearance! another problem: i managed to get the near-to-impossible-to-repair parting line in the spring in exactly the most visible place! on the "custom" version i think i will make my own coilovers to replace these kit pieces. heres a hint too: when youve got your delicate chassis on the table for photos and the pesky backdrop keeps tilting, fix it before it crashes down on your delicate chassis! on the other hand, if it survives that, you know its built! alright its on to the interior and the not-so-original color, ive decided on model master deep pearlescent purple. we will see how that goes. ive already shot the underside surfaces and it seems kind of easy to pool up and create dark fogging...i will have to be very careful applying it to the exterior.
  10. well, some progress to report: pretty much done building up the frame and suspension, along with motor. heres some updated photos, tomorrow i am going to put the wheels and tires onto the brake drums and take some more photos. meanwhile, onward with the paint, and interior. i think since the interior is pretty simple i will keep it simple and just flock the carpet and put some future on the hyde of nauga upholstery. dashboard is very simple with a couple grab handles, one gauge and a chrome center section. anyway heres some shots of the motor in the frame with suspension finished: oh jeez its leaking oil already! and here is a shot of the one side's mufflers with the huge gash being filled. i should note, manufacturing flaws like this were what prevented me from making nice looking models in my childhood mostly because i didnt have a clue how to deal with them. we will see if ive evolved any in the past 40 years! anyway i guess what i will do after smoothing them is wrap the mufflers only in BMF and then kind of blue the area a bit. funny thing is, the same marks appear on the other side exhaust system but on the INSIDE of the muffler, where i can ignore them easier! but still i will BMF that side too to keep consistent side to side: more to come! this is actually coming along better and easier than i thought, but believe me, it aint tamiya!
  11. do you mean "Machined Aluminum Specialties" (MAS)? dont know the answer or the status but i know they did some very nice stuff.
  12. i wonder what would happen if you sprayed some clear red over that? looks nice and that color it is might grow on you...
  13. wow looks great! those seats are sweet too!
  14. wow! that is a great replica, and art arfons was/is a pure daredevil! look at that frame work on the "real" photo: they werent worried about weight, obviously! how long did it take to build this? i am hoping you didnt just put this together in like a week because if thats so, its double amazing!
  15. looks like a very nice build! as i remember that kit is pretty fiddly, am i right? did it go together well? looks like a great job too! got any more pics to post?
  16. thanks for the tip hermit-dude, and great work! cant wait to see it painted!
  17. i am totally cable challenged but i really want to see that show! could someone record it and send me a dvd please? i will pay or maybe trade for your trouble...we can work something out. please??? pm me please!
  18. hey nick, i only *wish* that lotus was mine. its a friend of mines over in london. he got the lotus bug bad a couple of years ago when i was there and asked if they would drive me out to this lotus swap meet in coventry. the featured car was the elan but he and his wife fell big time for the elise/exige and next thing you know, they went out and bought one! i like that brabham more actually and the little nissan boutique retro car is my favorite of the bunch. yeah i know they arent tuners by the common definition but i hardly ever stick to common definitions!
  19. so, a bit of an update, got the rear suspension finished and the motor as well: some closeups of the motor...since the side panels will be on the front you wont be able to see the plug wires where they enter the block so im not going to bother with spark plug boots: rear axle and suspension...that anti sway bar looks pretty cool! and a bunch of front end parts getting prepped:
  20. wow some really cool cars in there! i esp like this one: what brand and color is that paint? it looks like exactly what i need for another project.
  21. do you mean models or real cars?
  22. i really love that candy red streamliner go kart. does anyone know if that is a full detail one, or one of those 2 piece cast resin body halves?
  23. those wheels look great, mike. they will look cool on this sleeper!
  24. actually raul, the way things have been going, plan on 2013 for this one! but youre always invited to come out to the beautiful delta to check it out in person! that goes for anyone here matter of fact!
  25. >Yrs ago AMT made a spray can yep thats the one they indicate on the box as the correct color, but as you say, good luck on that! i might look into the duplicolor colors, seems to me i remember seeing something close one time
