  1. hey alan thanks for posting those pics and confirming many of the obstacles I ran into, yours is looking very nice too and love the trailer. during research for this project somewhere I read that those full moon disks don't really work well on the street as they stop the flow of air to brakes creating a problem in stopping. maybe with better ventilated wheels like you might assume we use today they work acceptably well but I read they were a real menace back in the day, so maybe that's why so few cars ran them on the street. jb
  2. chestnuts roasting on an old fire right about there. totally nuts. better to have a model of it than the real thing! jb
  3. Rich, very kool lookin kustom! beautiful paint and those stripes look killer. I was wondering if you could post a pic of your taillights; earlier you mentioned some Bob Dudek teardrops and I would love to see them to see if they would work on something I am doing. and please a link to buy them...somehow I got the idea maybe Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland may carry them but not sure about that. thanks again jb
  4. its not "math", its arithmetic. look it up. But yeah. Calculator on everything these days, probably your watch too if you still bother. thanks again! jb
  5. currently working on getting all the gadgets to fit under the hood: cut down a stock valve cover and it now fits snugly enough for the hood to close, had to ditch the webers...too big and no way was the intake manifold going to fit down between the exhaust pipes, and went with the stock SU's with some small velocity stacks. conceiving an exhaust system: stock pipe and muffler but I am going to make some sort of polished tip, possibly large, possibly bologna sliced end, possibly sticking out the back at some weird offcamber angle. also polishing a machined aluminum fuel cap for placement square center on rear deck (as if I am ever successful at "center"...but theres always hope) and a little more underhood detail though now I wish I had drilled the ends of the brake assist for some wires but gonna let that stuff go at this point. Should be near finishing up so keep your eyes peeled for an update before exile to under glass. thanks again and as always all comments suggestions slurs cheerfully considered jb
  6. very nice, got any closeups of the engine compartment and interior? jb
  7. fantastic build though I too would prefer the wider tires, but those whitewalls look great. also loving the diorama scene for your photos! jb
  8. front wheels are on and its stance is exactly how I wanted it, with the track on the front being just a bit wider than out of box but not so much the tires stick out of the fenders. decided to used the bumper and light rack from the monte carlo version, and am going to use the bubble headlamp shields while I am at it. need to remake one taillight that isn't quite up to the level of the other one. that last photo almost catches the true color... thanks again! jb
  9. by "larger nozzle", what would you recommend? jb
  10. love that Barris truck, that will be some challenge recreating it, but looks like its getting there! the fins are really gonna make it happen! jb
  11. that is REALLY looking beautiful in color! wow! jb
  12. so basically you laid on a few coats of future, not really caring if it orange peeled a bit, then flowed it all out by using windex over it and letting it settle? did you use straight windex or mix with future? im curious because I want to try some future in my airbrush. thanks for the tip on the, well, tip...stands to reason you want to flood it on a bit and also future is thicker than typical paint. the body is looking great and those decals are really super! jb
  13. nice andy, hope to see a build thread? in defense of the color, none of the photos I have posted have come near capturing it. they look way too pink. it is more or less candy red, Tamiya mica red with clear red overcoat, on smooth white primer coat. looks pretty impressive really. what I really need is a 1/24 scale Beat/Specials/TwoTone decal for the window. twist and crawl. jb
  14. yeah pat already did that a long time ago, just thought maybe you had some good ones to share. besides sterling moss with a (cough cough (double entendre intended)) fag, that wouldn't be chas chandler, bassist with the Animals and manager and kinda discoverer of Jimi Hendrix on the right would it? and pat, the 1100 MG sedan was exactly what I was thinking those lights were from but I couldn't come up with it! thanks for that. meantime that racing photo above has convinced me I need to use the teardrops, mounted vertically, with the small end down. any comments on that? I was thinking small end up like a real teardrop, but ... oh decisions decisions. right now I am setting the ride height in front basically in the weeds...again not really prototypical but how I like to see Mini's in drawings anyway. thanks for all the comments and keep em coming! jb
  15. >I don't know about the colour! artists prerogative as I would say...and I got tired of building brg colour cars! thanks for the history, don't imagine you have any good photos of the fastback in action? jb
  16. yeah but with air rides don't you basically have to stop, raise up, then proceed and presumably lower back down? so meanwhile I am going to be behind you in my lifted Toyota 4X4 leaning on the horn! jb
  17. newsstand sales do absolutely nothing for circulation numbers. they are throw aways. Subscriptions are where circulation numbers come from, no ifs ands or buts. as it was so shall it be. and so that is why most smart magazine advertising executives, who tend to know what side their bread is buttered on, would like to see articles such as this posted on the web for all to read. it sells subscriptions. and subscriptions through circulation numbers sell advertising. and advertising is what periodicals live and die on. so in essence one is stabbing themselves in the back by not putting interesting articles, particularly when they are of interest to the otherwise non-target or marginally targeted audience for the magazine, on a website that could attract future subscribers amongst an expanding reading audience. that is the real world situation. selling single copies is chump change and rarely pays its own way. newsstand sales are simply a loss leader to fish for future subscribers...something the internet has been shown to be much more efficient at. jb
  18. I do have to say, every time I look at that thing it gets worse. Am currently tipping a slight bit shy of "crusher". jb
  19. wow I had never looked closely at that Revellion thing there, but now that I do I love it. Tony Nancy chassis and the nailhead buick and all, that's pretty darn kool! Excellent build on the both of them! isn't that a Dodge Polara body? what did that originate from, or was it tooled specially for this funny car? thanks for sharing; kinda made my day! jb
  20. I would love to see one of these cars go over the average American speed bump ("sleeping policeman" elsewhere). That darn horizontal air dam ain't gonna be on there for long! jb
  21. Apr 13 2014, that's tomorrow, Stockton CA San Joaquin County Fairgrounds, big model show and semi-contest in conjunction with the Stockton car show and swap meet. Inside covered building with some crowd control provided by various individuals so models are fairly protected from wayward hands. Generally a number of vendors show up with kits and aftermarket stuff plus you never know what you will find at the automotive swap meet right outside, last year I bought an incomplete Exterminator 1/8 scale dragster for 10$! Usually around 5$ to get in the gate, no charge to enter models, some awards awarded and generally a good time! Bring your models to show, and if you have kids who build have them bring theirs as well because there is always an emphasis on the kids having a good time and taking home something for their next build! Don't really know the gate hours but I think the swap meet starts pretty early; bringing models around to the building it is held in around 10am sound reasonable, perhaps earlier. Judging generally takes place around noon or 1pm. Sorry I don't really know details; I am not involved in the organization of the show that would be Bob Karoll. (and I am sure I spelled his name wrong...sorry Bob! Hope to see you all there! jb
  22. Its been a while on the back bench while I figure out how to deal with the 1/8" section job vis a vis the interior and chassis pan, but some creative dremel use has put it back on track for a finish sometime, real soon...gotta clear my workbench for a 1/8 scale project soon so times a wasting... have got the chassis with interior and motor mounted to body, and it fits pretty well after grinding the top of the dashboard (unseen under front cowl) down about an eighth. also way back when I made a package shelf for behind the back seat and miracle of miracles it went right into place! next was the challenge long put off of dealing with mounting the wheels and getting a low stance, way lower than out of box. rears were easy and lowering them easy as well: just bend the trailing arms up and shorten the shocks and youre golden. the fronts promised to be something else again, but after considering them and the suspension detail, simply grinding some slots into them and letting them sit up into the wheel wells a bit seems to be working out well. I also am offsetting them outward a bit more than out of box so they take up the wheel arch space better to my eye. here I am posing the front wheels (actually wheel, only the right side) for the stance I want, and making two sets of custom taillights to take my choice from, one round and one teardrop. also a lot of finish parts have been fitted and are ready to attach, front bumper and grille, weber carbs under the hood (hopefully), headlamps and maybe some rally lamps. more soon...for now heres a couple of pics taillight bezels, I kinda like the oval ones best thanks for looking; as always comments suggestions heckling cheerfully entertained! jb
  23. Why is ebay "evil"? If its so evil I would advise you to stay far away from it. Do you by any chance shop at Walmart? Cause now there is your evil. jb
  24. kool car! does it have an engine or is it curbside? jb
  25. "bosozoku"...seems to be Japanese for "some really weird stuff", or "you round eyes will never even approach this kool ever, much less appreciate it". you're welcome jb
