if thats for real it must have cost a MINT to use Elvis' name. and a pretty tenuous tie-in, or maybe i dont know, but was there ever a meyers manx-Elvis scene in a beach movie or something?

wow sam, that looks awesome in that T! the motor is killer for lots of applications thats for sure.

Btw, what are theese "vinyl-tire damages"??
jbwelda replied to JAFFA's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yep thats a good reminder right there, first thing i too do is be sure to separate the tires from the rest. these days the mfgs do it for you most of the time though. -
is it correct to think none of these EM kits approach the 356 in its various guises for complexity and detail? thats been my experience so far, those other porsches in the line its hard to tell exactly what makes them "EM" as opposed to a normal kit. and someone said the fit of the 356 kits were near perfect? i have not built the entire kit but i have built a couple of the quad cam motors and transaxles and i found that things kinda didnt fit together all that well out of the box, a lot of fiddling and relocating of guide pins and adjusting was necessary to get a good look out of the motor and even then the finned cylinders had a horizontal seam going through them that has to be h e double hockey sticks to get rid of.

what cracks me up is they call it a "55" but i would wager there is nothing 55 on it!

>Since it's not the stock engine, one could argue any engine would be appropriate, but considering the diminutive size of the car itself and >the fact these cars were marketed and sold through Buick dealerships in the U.S., the Buick V6 makes a lot of sense to me. you have a point there but not hilborn-esque fuel injected V6 with big ole intake stacks sticking through the hood. i would almost put money that nothing like that ever existed (but thats usually a sure sign that i am going to lose). really too bad there arent SCCA road course parts included, now that would be appropriate. but i will get one anyhow. appropriateness is kinda over rated sometimes.

dont you love those ejector pin marks? at least they are a little inconspicuous up on the headliner...but right next to the molded in sun visor! great build by the way, i just always get bitten by those dumb pin marks too.

after hearing about this reissue i went back and looked at my older version...yeah what is up with that one chrome reverse rim? but this new one i will get just for those stacks i think. cant get over that box art though...no one, and i mean no one, would build a car like that. it looks ridiculous! not only that, the art work makes it look like it is camaro size which anyone who has ever seen one knows is way off. but a nice motorsport version will look great, too bad they didnt include some SCCA style parts for the more reality based builder. that buick v6 is very nice too though totally inappropriate for this car. what were those guys at AMT smoking? whatever it was, i want some. anyway its good to see this back with some kool parts and decals...even if the box art is a laugh fest. edit to ask: how many aluminum stacks are included, 6?

i built one of the XJS hasegawa kits: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19454&hl=%2Bjaguar+%2Bxj http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=55015&hl=jaguar fun build and if the chassis is simplified i didnt notice it...though i probably wouldnt know correct if i saw it. very nice kit and kind of a challenge to build.

really been coming along nicely and i am very impressed with that interior detail work! that dashboard instrument pod looks great! based on your experience so far and your further insights into the subject, i am going to order one of these revell kits too! looks as good or better than the tamiya in almost all ways. thanks again!

wow this is super interesting, excellent scratchbuilding! i wish i could be that successful at translating 1:1 down into a model. really impressive. i owned an MGTF for many years, many decades actually, and always wanted a K3, almost bought one once but a clearer head prevailed. heres a pic of my trusty TF on its way to its new home (and a frame up resto): contrary to popular wisdom that car rarely broke down, and i drove it quite a bit over many years and in over 4 decades it only left me stranded one time...and that was because the german fuel pump i replaced the lucas one with went out while i was out on the road.

some progress to report: pretty much all the pieces are ready for final assembly as you can see from the following photos. i think i will epoxy in the dashboard and paint in the lines on the front panel tonite, then proceed to mount the interior bucket then the front subframe and see how that goes! a look at most of the pieces: i decided to use the front fenders from the stacy whatevers rat roaster and they look pretty nice...a little yellow pinstripe from the decal bin looked good too...got a yellow subcolor thing going on if you hadnt already noticed: speaking of yellow we got the classic yellow grille work going on: and also some yellow on the polished bare metal fuel tank: alright many thanks for looking and of course comments appreciated!

ScaleKraft Broadspeed Mini Conversion, Finished Apr 22, 2014
jbwelda replied to jbwelda's topic in WIP: Model Cars
a little progress to report: chassis/floorpan is about done, currently making a new rear package shelf for the rear window but all the rear suspension is in place (lowered about 3 or 4 scale inches) and the motor and associated front suspension in place as well (lowering as yet to be done but will probably get a little sloppy). decided to keep the gawdawful purple because it sort of grew on me so i am using it as the interior 2nd tone as well. i attempted a quick cleanup of the headliner before hitting it with color, but the result is pretty sketchy as you can see from the photo so i think i will get in there with some filler and reshoot before moving on to the exterior color coats. slowly moving forward... engine sitting in compartment, wiring still to be fiddled with a little and missing weber carbs and some other stuff that goes on after body has been mounted: a shot of the proceeds showing the non detail painted dashboard pieces: finally a shot at the challenging headliner situation, even with the squinty windows i dont think i can let that pass...but i am not sure i can do a whole lot better either...wait, i know i cannot mess it up any worse that that... alright and thanks for looking! -

flattery will get you further when you spell the guys name right: GREGG and casey dont ever warn me about posts he (or someone) is going to ditch. is that favoritism at work there? serenity now, insanity later. does that one ring a bell casey? har har har...not laughing with you by the way.

let me state, on this fourth page of replies to my original post, that i did not mean this thread to be an unequivocal lovefest. in any endeavor there are ups and downs, and i dont think it right to hide the downs while pushing the ups. i think all comments have some validity and just because they express a "negative" tone against what might be seen as the "party line" doesnt mean they shouldnt be expressed or they dont represent a reality based opinion. what i was asking was that Gregg not take it so seriously, both for his own health and the health of the board itself. just, as i said, let it be...if there are threats or personal insults etc then take them down but otherwise just let the ship sail itself. its been running for years now and we all find it of use to us, a constant source of inspiration (in my case anyway) and a great place to talk to or commiserate with fellow modelers. dont get all angst-ed out when people post stuff you would rather not see or rather not deal with, just realize they are one (or more) opinions out of a whole lot more...and maybe some of them should be acted on. but dont take it personally and dont let it ruin your day. be proud of what youve accomplished here even if it is not perfect...perfection is a very rare commodity in the world today so expect that this forum will remain far from perfect. as an aside i would also advise to tell the moderators to ONLY moderate in pretty extreme cases. there is very little need, in my eyes anyway, for the moderators to baby sit the forum as they have come to do here lately. but even with that, i would hate to see the forum disappear especially if it only was because of some minor headaches or a too "hands on" approach to moderation and the reaction to that moderation.

why dont i get this many replies on my build threads?
-
hey man, please take a chill pill. i know you take this seriously and personally, this forum thing i mean, but if like you say there are over 100k hits a day etc dont let the drivel from one or two ruin it for ya. just let it be. theres plenty more to life than stressing out over what someone writes on an internet forum even if it is "your" forum. the vast vast vast majority of us here appreciate the effort, appreciate the opportunity to post to an online forum of our favorite magazine, and appreciate the fact that it ADDS to, not replaces the content of the magazine. dont let the bums get you down and dont sweat the little stuff gregg...you will feel a lot better for it. just a word from a (for lack of a better word) fan and admirer. the model building world would lose a major resource if this site disappears. the only thing i can say is i feel your pain when people post stuff like "oh i dont buy the magazine when i can come to this forum free". that would really bug me; but you gotta keep the professional vibe and not tell those people how short sighted they are. this forum rules...keep up the good works star!

thats a totally kool build of a pretty odd car. a friend of mine owned one of them up till a few years ago. they look very awkward in life. captured it well in that build i must say. from what i hear of R&R, you probably deserve a medal!

different looking car, excellent build, dont think i had ever seen this car before either

Out Of Production Resin & Aftermarket Products
jbwelda replied to Casey's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
very interesting thread, a question here: i also have this Zipper body kit, i think i bought it on ebay. funny thing is, i also have that metal chassis/suspension but i dont think i bought it with the body. did they come bundled as a kit? i thought the metal chassis was an R&D Unique piece and i was sure the metal front axle and suspension was. did R&D Unique also market this set? More on the original subject sadly have to add Scale Kraft of south africa to the gone but not forgotten list. very kool euro cars in 1/24 and very excellent castings.
