  1. jeez are you slow or something today harry? >Posted at 5:42 PM??? for one thing, looks to me like it was posted at 15:42 which you might otherwise know of as 3:42 pm second, i believe he may have been referring to a different post, posted earlier in the day, instead of the current post, which would make absolutely no sense whatsoever. and don koolkat said it best: My mag ships in plastic sleeves, no reports of damage ever. better take a break harry...talking to too many empty chairs.
  2. i build it until it is done and done to my satisfaction even if it means it sits for a year at a time. whats the hurry? its not like this is work or something. relax and do a good job or you (i at least) will regret it later. thats the wisdom that age brings. i always laugh at these people who do "24 hour builds" because when i look at the product all i can think is its a shame the person did it fast instead of doing it right and most times the rush is apparent in the finished product. my philosophy in many things is if you cant take the time to do it right, dont do it at all. used to bug the hell out of my coworkers whose programs got done fast and then they spent the rest of their careers making endless bug fixes when with some preplanning (and following through on the plan...duh) they could have produced some stable software that you didnt need to mess with anymore. and thats my rant for sunday morning. edit: now in going back and rereading maybe the point is expense? thats even more ridiculous if you ask me. think about how much money you spend on other things...real cars for one. a hundred bucks for a kit plus more to upgrade it is pretty much dirt in comparison. i always laugh when i read people saying they have to shop at walmart to make ends meet...thats a sign youre in real trouble and you probably shouldnt be building models to begin with then if your finances are so weak. i spend on a model whatever i want to spend on it; there is always more money coming down the pike if you want it...another lesson age has taught me. a couple hundred dollars over the course of a few months isnt the end of the world.
  3. wow, excellent! i want to see the rest of the car!
  4. all of it is reasonably priced...and wait till you see it in person, the quality is really excellent. always a thrill to experience.
  5. wouldnt a slant six be appropriate in there? i want one!
  6. i think norm at replicas and miniatures of maryland has "mod" squad figures too.
  7. they have always had these offbeat little cars for the JDM. i like the little bitty ones that weight 600 lbs and have a 120 hp engine. thats some power to weight ratio there and at 50 mpg too.
  8. welp there you go: you can see the parts better. and at my age every bit helps.
  9. i am impressed you guys got them to actually run with that electric motor. i built one when i was a kid, actually built it then rebuilt it a couple years later and i never COULD get it smooth enough inside to actually turn over before something went cockeyed and jammed up. i remember how disappointed i was the first time i built it and i had been building models for a couple years by that point. then i tore it all back apart and tried to tighen things up but i was pretty young and brass tubing was pretty intimidating so it didnt work any better the second time around. i think ultimately I or some "we" poured glue on it and lit it on fire. that showed it who was boss.
  10. thats super and i like how you carried through the hole theme to the seats and all! hey for a windshield i feel your pain i always get hung up on trying to make or find a proper looking windscreen. one thing you might try is (seriously) take the model or a sheet of dimensions drawn out down to the store like walmart or grocery store and look for clear plastic packaging you can find the proper shape out of. i know it sounds like a shot in a million but the couple times i have done it, it turned out to be easier than i thought it was going to be, within about 10 minutes of looking i bought some razor whose packaging fit my need exactly. in fact there was an even better place to cut it out of than i originally thought. i dont have that model anymore or i would show a pic but take a stroll down to the big box and see what you can come up with!
  11. >You will never see them anywhere near $15 from a mail order place well never say never and i didnt really mean necessarily a mail order place more like a get em out of here discount house. really wishful thinking because i knew they were horribly overpriced but that was the point: if they are cheap i am in. kinda liked the box art 15 $ worth!
  12. hey joe: > is the trailer from revell's midget kit or built up? yeah i modified it some to work better with the kart but basically just added a floor section to the back and changed the guard rails. i had been wanting to use one of those trailers for something besides the midget and this one fit the bill. the photo of the kart above made me gulp a little bit...i paid 44 for it last time i bought one so if they are now 80$ thats pretty significant. totally worth it still but a pretty good chunk of change to lay down. quality is certainly top drawer all the way though. building this resin kart caused me to try to round up an original styrene one and i have slowly gathered the pieces including the chrome plated parts that are just plain resin in the resin set. i have a couple of painted shells already squirreled away that need to be stripped and repainted so i hope to get to these one day here soon. my friend tim king also did a repop of the original back before RMM did their vastly superior one. as you can see here, tim's needs a whole lot more cleanup but i do think he remastered or added a couple of new pieces. still one is much better off with the repandmin version for sure. here are collected up parts for a styrene original version, note the chrome: and here is tim kings earlier attempt, i was going to build this until norms came along and of course tims version does not include the bonneville style outer shell. on the other hand i think he only wanted 20$ or so for this kit: anyway it was a great subject and if only AMT could or would once again offer these two items it would be joy joy joy.
  13. thanks for the info bernard, i just ordered a couple of those drop axles plus some other kool stuff like a turbo rotary motor for an upcoming project!
  14. heres one i built some time ago: it builds up quite nicely and goes together at least as well as the original did. the shell requires a bit of special handling when painting because it is so thin. excellent deal as is the triumph motorcycle from similar origins:
  15. i had and built a 1/24 scale Lotus Eleven that was an improved repop of the old Merit kit. For the life of me i cannot remember who i bought this from but i know i did buy a couple of Mini Exotics transkits. could it be that i got this from Mini Exotics? i do not see it listed above so that makes me wonder if i got it elsewhere.
  16. a decal sheet full of bullet holes! pretty kool but pretty steep price wise.
  17. >it appears your valve cover is on backwards...the slope side should face the Dist....Fuelpump.....starter side... hey thanks for bringing that up...it wasnt glued down yet so i swapped it around! thanks for the tip!
  18. realistically? 1. Lotus Exige 2. Volkswagen 181 ("The Thing") 3. Birdcage Maserati all seem very doable and prime for the market (possible exception the VW)
  19. its been a while but a little work and some planning have been taking place in between other duties, so a small update is in order. heres a photo of a xerox copy of a photo of a broadspeed mini showing the wobbly web wheels (top...kinda hard to see but look like black webs with chrome outer rings, they look a lot more like webs in the original i have than in the photo i took of it). i believe this is a photo of a real car (and not a built up model) but that is hard to say for sure, these photos were sent along with the kit: and the motor is done and just awaiting the front suspension cradle being painted to plug into and add the remaining pieces: (edit: ohhh i love these digital cameras! noticed that valve cover corner is not flush with the head top...it is now!) right now though i am thinking on how to best set the ride height...still want it to look halfway real underneath, despite the gawdawful purple i painted the underpan...thats gonna get reshot with some drab green spatter stuff. thanks as always for looking and comments certainly encouraged!
  20. got a direct link to the discontinued ones at a bargain price? if they were only 15 or so i would buy a few just for parts.
  21. i wonder who they think they are going to sell that junk to? kids for toys? i am specifically thinking of that surf buggy thing in 1/20 scale. its got "loser" written all over it. soon to be released direct to dollar store closeout bargain basement. oh yeah nice box art too. i like how they photoshopped that ray-ban dude into the pilots seat of their lame buggy complete with seams down the center of the vinyl tires. classic.
  22. oh yes indeed and now if only they did a Raid version!
  23. that hurts just seeing that lindberg fiat thing next to the tamiya Lola! i didnt realize there was so much available in 1/12. but i guess its the japanese "de facto" large scale? as for what to build, i think you answered it yourself with the mustang, but you gotta like what you build, dont you think? so it was kinda hard to give suggestions; i myself would have suggested the Big T or Big Deuce if only for all the kool bonus parts in both of them. but your tastes might have run total counter to that and maybe you would want to build the Lola or something. have fun with the mustang, i couldnt follow exactly which one it is you bought, but i gathered it must be a current model like 2011 or something. will be interesting to see what big scale state of the art is today. i probably would have tried to get this one, but i have no idea what they go for, dont think i have ever seen one:
