thanks, yeah i got his card in case i come up with a spare two hundred (stranger things have happened) because this engine would cause me to rethink another project i got going with an offy motor thats half built at the moment. this Arden flattie looked to be 3D printed...is that correct? it wasnt very rough on the outer surface though, but i didnt get a chance to talk to the guy and ask if the kit there was already prepped or if it came just like that (i would assume the latter). if i remember correctly he had an unassembled kit of an Ardun V8, plus build ups of the V8 and the V12 and maybe a partial build of something. yep shoulda taken a picture! every bit worth a thousand words in this case! maybe one will show up in someones pictorials linked from the nnl west page.

beautiful interior and those aluminum stacks look great!

i hear you john but i like those belts and i looked all over to find one...probably should have used a photoetch buckle and a tape belt but its glued in there now (or at least i think it is...i tend to stick stuff like that down with blue-tac putty so i can remove it if i think better...maybe i should check). i think that piece makes for a bit of "vintage" look. and that stupid restraining strap i put over the fire extinguisher keeps coming up...have to glue that sucker down good!

thanks john, yeah i try to avoid messing around after painting but in this case my impatience got the better of me and i am where i am to paraphrase a common expression. i did actually scrape a bit of paint off the front rails fitting that radiator shell but they will touch up with a brush before i spray the clear and i had to do some touch up in the back anyhow so its no big loss. meanwhile, interior bucket is about done, pretty much out of box with some added goodies for interest: aluminum dash, aluminum steering column and super 7 steering wheel, moon pedal: that red dot is covering a mess up...have to further complete it by doing a little touch up around it to make it appear to be a ignition lamp. also going to make a little reading lamp for nighttime rallys and put it on the passenger side...other than that i think i am calling it done. again thanks for looking!

ok so one problem from the beginning has been that while its not too apparent with the big fenders in the front obscuring the view, with those gone its apparent that the hood slopes up way too much on its way to the radiator shell, because the shell is too tall and upright in comparison to the hood line on the body proper. that was the way TC's looked but i dont want it to be the way this TC looks. heres what i mean: oh noooooooo.... so i messed around a bit and decided it might look better with the radiator shell shortened and the bonnet pointing down toward the front a bit more: yeah a bit better, so grab the razor saw, some masking tape, a shot of anesthetic to steady the hands, and something like this happens: looking much better, heres a view of the other side: unfortunately i kinda hacked up the sides getting it to fit into the area it needs to go into since the shell itself had a decreasing width as it went down to its bottom and i had to relieve the sides and did so too much before i really figured out what had to be done. so i am currently rebuilding the lower sides of the shell to fill in gaps i cut and ended up not needing. i figured i lowered the shell some 6 scale inches and tilted it rearward at the top about 10 degrees making it look much racier but not so much the lines of the bonnet look funny next to it. also unfortunately it has occurred to me i will not be able to use the bonnet sides as i had hoped...for one thing this opening the louvers is really turning out to be a pain (though one side is about done and looking very kool) but the biggest problem is the Weber carbs and air cleaners hanging out one side. i think the car looked much better with the side panels on and i was going to glue them to the body section to leave the top part to be removable to access the motor (ala MGTF) but i am now thinking better of that idea. bunch more has been done and the body is ready for a touch up shot of paint on the bad spot right rear fender. heres a shot of a pose session the other night...motor is now mounted in place, fuel hose routed and secured and a lot of fitting and checking clearances done. as always comments or criticism cheerfully accepted and thanks for looking!

so at the NNL West yesterday someone had a resin V12 (presumably Lincoln) Flathead with Ardun Heads in 1/8th scale. looked pretty impressive but he wants if i recall correctly 185 for the kit. my question: is there a real life prototype for this or is it a figment of his imagination? if the latter it is still pretty awesome...i think it came with a 12 port injection system or it could have been 6 two-barrel carbs, i forget and darn i shoulda taken a picture. thanks in advance!

Serenity now, insanity later.

ok...boy am i glad i happened to check out this thread after leaving it for a few months. one thing, michael1969, could you please explain how exactly anything you wrote has the slightest to do with this topic? as far as i can see your post is some tangential thinking in the extreme coupled with some undisguised moderator azz kissing. here is a gentle suggestion: perhaps you should get a few more posts under you belt before you start contributing to threads like this, just to see how things work here. for some clarity what i was originally asking for was not a separate category for motorcycles but for them to be allowed to be posted in the usual places: on the workbench, under glass, perhaps big boys for the non-25th scale ones (cause lord knows no one builds 1/24). you know, somewhere where people actually LOOK with some regularity (just look at the views/replies stats of this and other lower level forums and compare them to the first three to verify how many look at what categories). edit: went back and read my two posts above and i can see how i DID ask for a separate category for motorcycles...but that wasnt really what i wanted...i was hoping they could be folded back into the main categories as mentioned although i was thinking that if the HAD to be separated from there perhaps they could be in their own category. on later reflection its obvious there arent enough posted to really justify that so but i just hate to see them lumped in with this "other" stuff when they are much more connected to CARS than to what gets posted here (to me "other" in this context should be ships planes trains star wars spaceships military etc, in other words non automotive related. end edit and to get back to harry about why i would want to be here if i dont like it...please, star, dont think i dont like it here. if i didnt i would not be here simple as that. i find this site very very interesting and always find inspiration here. its just that all this segmentation means i miss a lot because i dont have time to go through 30 subforums. but thats just me maybe. so i wasnt asking that the whole thing be rethought and/or redone, just a simple request that motorcycles be moved back to the normal top layer of forums. and to those who say its all about model cars, ok...what about the rebuilt die-cast TRUCKS (not pickup trucks which no one would confuse with a real TRUCK anyhow but i digress) featured fairly regularly in the magazine itself along with all the other non-car material there? anyway its just funny how some people react to simple requests. all i can say is: serenity now (insanity later). good grief.

How do you display your models?
jbwelda replied to rmvw guy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
true on the maze but once you figure it out you can shortcut to exactly where you want to go, easier than at the average wally world kinda place. their point, of course, is that while youre wandering through the maze, you will see all the stuff you didnt know you needed and that gets back to my post. but there is a map right at the entrance to my local one so you can cut the browsing and get right to what you need if you so desire. -
What does "no selling on the forums" mean?
jbwelda replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
> This way the people who run and control this site would know if they have a bad egg on the site. yeah a bad egg. problem is, which one is the bad egg? you cant just take someones word that they are jesus and the other person satan. more often than not there is a problem on both ends. and moderators cant be expected to dig through everything to figure out who is at fault, even if they wanted to. not that i think that should lead to no selling, i just think that when problems arise its incumbent on the involved parties to either figure it out or eat the loss themselves, dont start p*ssing contests on the forums or even worse try to get an "authority" figure involved. but thats not the way of the world, so many people need "mom" around to help them when things dont go their way even though thats largely a problem only between the two parties...so we end up with more "zero tolerance" rules and everyone suffers. way to go whiners. -

jbwelda replied to rmvw guy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
ikea also has a really good selection of low voltage, low heat lamps for installation in display cases like this. they are in the lighting section, in the one locally they are against the wall, probably 30 different styles for different applications. i have bought a couple and installed them in my Ikea cases and they work great though if you have solid shelves the light wont go through them to the lower shelves (obviously) but you can mount one per shelf or every other shelf. its all money though. i actually bloody hate Ikea: everytime i go there for one thing i see 10 things i cannot live without. -

Where are the great Hobby Shops?
jbwelda replied to Fender's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Only one i know of anymore is in the basement of University Ace Hardware in Berkeley CA. Used to be a bunch around northern california but one by one they have disappeared. there is a decent one in the foothills in i think oakdale too but its nothing to write home about. so...yes...the internet. -
Camaro is American again
jbwelda replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
>2) Is making wood pellets beneath you? You seem to have contempt for those workers? So they aren't making >battleships...does that mean that can't be proud of their work and job? Having pride in something doesn't >necessarily equate out to it's size or (for lack of a better term) epicness. my point was that this seems to be what americas industrial might has been reduced to: making toothpicks from trees. it has not much to do with whether employees are proud of what they do, they have a right to be proud of it, but rather is this something AMERICA needs to trumpet as being proud of? how the mighty have fallen if this is indeed true but of course it is not; our greatest product these days is brainpower and the organization (some might call it exploitation) of others to do the actual work because they are willing and able to do it much cheaper. so perhaps the question should be: is making wood pellets beneath the once mighty strength and innovation of industry? making this personal will only shine an unfavorable light, in my eyes anyway, on those attempting to divert the gaze of those critical of the situation we have worked ourselves into. we are part of a global economy, we are not THE global economy anymore. even our cars are made elsewhere or made of parts made elsewhere these days and that brings us back to the topic at hand. edit: i just watched a PBS program, American Experience, on the Rockefeller history and legacy. One quote struck me as appropriate here and i will attempt to paraphrase it: from those to whom much is given, much is required. -
Camaro is American again
jbwelda replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
hey mini trucker you obviously have not figured out how this place works yet! logical statements are not necessarily welcome! its good americans have jobs but really the writing has been on the wall for 30 or so years now so perhaps a better point would be that maybe amerikans should figure out there aint gonna be many manufacturing jobs here that one can make a decent living from so maybe they ought to get an edumacation so they can be useful in whats up for the future instead of grousing in the rust belt unemployment lines because "its what their daddys did". it cracks me up that the wood pellets i use in my pellet stove say "Proudly Made In the USA". Really? "making" wood pellets is something to be proud of? oh for the old days of innovation and invention. just a thought and sure to be controversial. but thats what makes a for a good discussion. -
now theres something you dont see every day. very kool and right up my alley. excellent build too. i got one to build as one of three on a track corner diorama, this is very inspiring to see. its too bad we are so provincial in the US that we dont see these micros on the streets here. i wish i could find a model of this car, i took the pic in London and had never seen anything like it before:

thanks erik...i was a bit skeptical that the tamiya was undersized but i usually take the experts word. is there anything here that would lead one to prefer this release vs the tamiya? maybe just some model-specific differences but anything else?

Stacey David's Rat Roaster by : REVELL
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
>there's enough of a market out there willing to pay a little bit more for a little bit better quality kit. And it's never panned out for anyone >who's ever tried it. really? thats gotta come as a shock to Tamiya et al. i would rather one imperfect rat roaster than twenty flippin Gremlins of all things. yes i know they are different companies but faced with the garbage model mfgrs dish out regularly, i am digging this one. the front cycle fenders and their in-scale mounting brackets are worth the price of admission to me. given lemons, lemonade is a good outcome. -
oh i see...thanks for the clarification on the roof. i couldnt tell from the photos which was the side panel and which was the top. should look kool with those injector stacks sticking out the hood.
-
hey thanks for that, never ever would have thought of gluing the fenders to the tires! thats kinda cheating! but i like it and since i dont build with rolling wheels thats gonna work out great! about the fender mounts on the rat roaster, i havent opened my kit yet, but arent they way more clunky than what youve got there? thats what i liked so much about yours...its got realistically thin fender supports. because they are really supporting anything! edit: i just broke open my rat roaster to check out the fenders and braces because i figured Tim had to be on to something. sure enough, nice mounting system connected to and coming off the front disk brakes, chrome, very thin and nice looking. and the fenders make me think i am going to use them instead of the ones i had earmarked for the project but i think i will stick with Tims method of gluing to the tires and then make some nice braces out of wire. thanks again thats what this forum is so excellent about... thanks again for the advice and you might be seeing it pop up soon on one of my posts. i think i will mix in a bit of black ink with the epoxy too.

i think primer body with a full paint roof is a pretty classic East LA pachuko look.

by metal stacks do you mean it comes with aluminum intake tubes for hilborn injection? i understand the opel GT will also have them for the Buick V6 that has been in the kit forever. great upgrade if you ask me and even though i have two of the Opels already i will be buying another strictly on the power of those injection tubes. are they flared at the top? mind posting a pic of them please? ps: just make sure that funny looking top isnt glued on and it should be fine! ive also been meaning to ask: why did AMT call this the "King Cobra"? wasnt the King Cobra a completely different car? not to mention that Torino or whatever that blob was that used the name.
