I got the MASSCAR photos up on my Fotki...Most all of them are by my mom...Mine are going to Gregg Hutchings at Model Cars Magazine as soon as he responds to my email! Take a look at these sample photos, then hit the link to see the rest, and feel free to leave comments! As it was the 20th Anniversary of the event, Stu Marcus prepared several displays of the history of the club, which were on display in the Hospitality Suite all day Saturday. On Saturday Night, during the Banquet and Trivia Contest, all the past presidents or their family (two have passed away, John Reid and Tex Ouderkirk) spoke and this is a photo of them all. From Left to Right: Doug Estabrook, Jim Cunningham, Neil Van Zile, Tex's Sons, Steve DeVaux, Tony Mazzola and John Reid's wife. The Club provided a cake for everyone to have. Then it was time for Trivia/Jeopardy...Arguably the best time to be had in the entire hobby! Then, after we all ate our fill and had fun with trivia, the Hospitality Suite opened back up and us TNMCC boys stayed till the very end, chatting about lots of things but mostly cars until well after midnight! From left to right, John McGuinness, Bob Pettine, Jim Devine, Rat Fink, Me, Vince LoBosco and Greg Nichols. Not pictured, but also present, was fellow member Calvin Crouch. Then, come Sunday Morning, it was time for the models to take center stage, and more then 300 came out, the largest turn out in 4 years. Gee, I wonder who built these?

I'll some up tomorrow at the latest, Ariel!

That looks very nice! I can't wait to lay my hands on one of them. There's a local car I want to semi-model, it's got a white body and pearlescent light stripes on the back. it's a later body style but I am not picky, I will use this kit to replicate it. It's a custom version as well. I can also see a factory stock one in metallic blue coming from me at some point as well. Thanks for posting and welcome to the board, Len!

http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/mode.../nnl-east-2008/ I finally got my NNL East pictures up. The bigger the camera card the more annoying it is to upload stuff. I waited until after MASSCAR to upload everything...I have more then 800 shots to do overall. Ack!! The 44s, 77 and 78 are mine My brother got this Hot Wheels before I was born. Seeing it on the table built up was awesome! Gary Kulchock was voted best of show with this one. Thanks for looking!

I Took A Break From The Forum...
Billy Kingsley replied to Raul_Perez's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I really did leave and no one really did notice...!! My mom fried the computer and it was in the shop for repairs. Who would think recipe message boards are full of hackers? Maybe people would notice if I contributed more, eh? I'm not much for drama, hatting, (though I do WEAR a hat, and own a Model Cars Magazine hat!) or builds of foreign cars! Well, I'm leaving again!! For MASSCAR, anyway, tomorrow, to return on Monday, and I may or may not have internet access in Massachusets, or I may or may not be leaving again! LOL! -
But it IS relevant Harry. As I eluded to in my post, people who havn't been to NNL events just simply don't know what they are all about-they've never been there so they CAN'T know what it's all about. It's something that, if/when experienced in the flesh, makes perfect sence. By the way, the reason you've gotten so much negative responce is that you're pretty much tearing apart what makes an NNL an NNL. NNLs thrive because they are NOT contests, and suggesting that they are rightly ticks off a lot of people. And, as I contest-those who have been to an NNL-would already know that. Another bit of food for thought-isn't a gathering of people where no awards are handed out just a club meeting?
-
Harry, you've never actually BEEN to an NNL, have you? I'm guessing if you had, you would never have made this post, because you'd already know the answer. I can't personally speak for all the NNLs out there, but I've been to the NNL East 8 years now and the NNL Nationals in Toledo 5 years. (Which is at the MINIMUM an 11 hour drive, usually more.) I'm going to try my darndest to get the Mid-Atlantic NNL this year as well. I've also been to contests, in fact I'm leaving for one this weekend, MASSCAR, which I've been to since 2004. I've also made several trips to LIARS, a judged contest, and even stopped in at the IPMS Nor-East Con last year, as it was within 20 minutes of where I live. There is no similarity between both styles of shows, other then the fact that you see most of the same people and most of the same models. At NNLs, people put their models on the table to show what they've done, speak to like-minded builders and just basically have a good time, not to mention spend more money then they should in the vendor room. At judged contests, the primary focus is to win awards. Period. Seeing friends and talking about models is, indeed secondary. The vendors are usually more local and more towards kits, instead of aftermarket vendors as well. Multiple awards are handed out, and it is based on a team of judges, NOT your peers as builders. Both events are fun, but the NNLs are usually the best days of the year-and no awards could top that. They are NOT contests, as they are not judged. The only people that handle the models are the builders themselves, when they are putting them out, picking them up, or showing off some sort of detail to a friend. Judges do not handle the model to try and find some sort of flaw that makes the other model better then yours-or yours better then someone else's. No one uses flashlights and "no one" has hard feelings at an NNL. It's funny-whenever this topic comes up-usually after every major NNL-it's posed by someone who has either never been to an NNL, or has been and is suffering from sour grapes thinking that everyone should have liked his model better. I don't think that there is a coincidence that 99% of the time it's from someone who's never been to one.

Can't say enough how great NNL East was...we both had a great time, and now that we have a computer back I'll be uploading my photos very shortly but you should take a look at hers, totally diffrent from mine. Here's the Model Cars Magazine Group photo... The cars BEHIND the front row are mine. (#2, #99, #64, #1, #24, #78, #77, both #44s, #97) She got people shots too, here Ken Wakeley and Tom Geiger Here's the link! http://tnmcc.fotki.com/modelcarshows/2008-...08nnleastbymom/ -
Nnl East 2008 Roll Call
Billy Kingsley replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I took a ride down to the show hall today...the building is HUGE outside...I know what the Tri-State guys said but I wasn't prepared for it to be THAT big. It's a little tricky to get to, but once you figure it out it'll be a breeze, and coming home was incredibly easy...If you are coming down from the NORTH, which I did, you'll end up making a few loops...Turn LEFT and go up the hill at the Cannon...The American Legion Hall has a very old looking cannon which is at the intersection you need to turn at...The local police station also has 5 War era Dodge Power Wagons lined up there too...VERY cool! Look really carefully on poles because there are PAL signs too... This is going to be the start of a whole new era... -
I had forgotten that announcement Bob-sure wish it had happened. Even though I dislike the Polar Lights kits I still would have purchased that one. Pretty much any Mustang that they can come out with are fine with me-I've got probably about 30 of them in the stash (instead of the 20 which I had thought very recently) and eventually some day perhaps I'll finish them! Oh well...maybe a resin caster will come out with one someday...or perhaps Jada...? I nearly bought their Mustang today but I decided that I didn't need to spend that money so close to the NNL East.

Possible Build Off
Billy Kingsley replied to evilone's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not going to get into this mindless bickering-I have better things to do then argue with people who can't even type in English! Before you "hat" on me on that, keep in mind that I've been posting on model car message boards since I was 15 years old in 2000 and I have never found the desire or need to purposely spell words incorrectly. All it does is make the person who does that look like a blatant fool-I've never even understood the desire. (Poor grammer, syntax and spelling is excusable if it's the best that can be done, however-at least they are trying!) BUT...Anthony, that Lowrider 18 wheeler that you finished is awesome! How'd you do the trailer? Is that done freehand? The artwork on the trailer is awesome-I'm a big fan of pretty much all of antiquity, and find the history of Rome to be particularly fascinating. (even though I would have preferred more of a documentary then the over dramitized movie-it's still pretty darn cool!) I have not built a lowrider in years-I've built nearly a dozen, all in my formative years as a model builder-and I will be building another (or, perhaps even more then one) soon. And it has nothing to do with a hair-brained challenge, just something I've been wanting to do for myself for quite some time now. Don't bother "hatting" on me-it'll fall on deaf ears. -
Made up a kit of the new Mustang Convertible? It really seems like it would have been a very quick and simple conversion that could have sold a ton more copies of the kit? I hate to use the term, but almost a no-brainer to me! I've been hoping that they would tool up a convertible since, well, since they came out with the basic kit a few years back, now! I'm in love with the bright yellow with black stripes paint scheme, I would do one of them instantly! If only I could....(I have no doubt that I could remove a roof with little trouble, but making a boot would be another issue!)

The Other Magazine
Billy Kingsley replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Clay I love your new signature picture. That takes me back...It's been probably more then a decade since I've seen some of those trucks, maybe even going on two! I had completly forgotten the Bigfoot Aerostar! Monster Trucks aren't what they once were, that's for sure. (still the only form on motorsports I've seen in person!) Back in the 80s and early 90s was the Golden Age for them. Thanks for bringing back those memories! (I discovered Monster Trucks in 1986 when I was 2) -
Nnl East 2008 Roll Call
Billy Kingsley replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Bill...we are both looking forward to it!! Counting down the days, one week from today!! -
With the NNL East just a week before, MASSCAR is likely again going to have a bit of a down in entrants and models this year, but there are still going to be quite a few people there. Who else from here will be there? I am Pretty sure that I will be taking photos for Model Cars Magazine again this year...it will be the third year in a row but this time the photos will actually be good...LOL. The show is, of cource, held at the Taunton Holiday Inn in Taunton, Mass...

Nnl East 2008 Roll Call
Billy Kingsley replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll be there, but I still have my nametag from Toledo 06! I swapped out the holder for a stronger one too, I'm planning on keeping it forever I have more nametags then most- TNMCC Model Cars Hobby Heaven Model Car List and, possibly-NNL Show Staff. Bill? Tom? Not sure if you guys will need my help this year, but I hope so-it's fun! -
Hey, Look Ma,
Billy Kingsley replied to Raul_Perez's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I thought you guys had dropped the month and gone over to just numbers? That is so much better, in easier to track and find stuff then months... -
I know this is not going to be for a model that normally fits this parameter, but if anyone knows it'll be in this section!! I am looking for a 1/25 scale fireman's uniform and helmet. I just want an empty uniform, something that I can display, for example, folded up on a set of a vehicle. Are there any kit or aftermarket sources for this? I don't think I could scratchbuild one. My concept is for a scale volunteer fireman's pickup and I want to have a uniform and helmet in the passenger seat.

Hey, Look Ma,
Billy Kingsley replied to Raul_Perez's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The most recent one I've got has Mark Hadley's off road Ford on the cover....Is that the newest one? I don't get to the hobbyshop often, luckily he holds one for me. I've chosen NOT to subscribe just to help out the local shop-always looking for the new issue pretty much ensures I'll go there and spend some money... -
Nice! First CoT resin I've seen completed. Way cool!
