Issue 137 complaint
Billy Kingsley replied to 58 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know, the whole issue of the issues shipping "on time" could be avoided if only issue numbers were used! I thought that MCM was going to do that but I guess I must have imagined it or it didn't work out or something. I don't pay attention to months on magazine covers so maybe there was something there but I missed it. I've sent Jim Haught probably a dozen emails asking him to put the issue numbers back on SA! Bill Borgen's builds are amazing. While it's not stuff I would build, for several basically unrelated reasons, I usually can't tell if he is posting just model pictures or a reference picture and THEN model pictures!! Bill G, if you built a tracter, it would probably do it's own tilling up the land! You would not have to worry about a working convertible top or door window cranks or all the little details like that you put in. -

Gregg, my cans of Tamiya White primer all exploded at the same time! -

Brian your luck might actually be worse then mine! I know you are right, though. Ed, that is something I actually CAN do! Way back at my very first TNMCC meeting in 2002 I bought a resin gas pump...70s style, I think...and it's been sitting in my parts box since then waiting for me to do something with it!! Hmm, now that I think about it, they may be a body soaking in my Bleche-white since September...I should probably check, LOL! (I left an R&R Vacuum Craft 67 El Camino soaking for 13 months one time...it did not hurt it, but the inacuracies make it unbuildable anyway!) -

You guys are good! Sage advice all around. It's weird, for me, in that for more then a year, I would sit down at my work bench, work on stuff for hours and hours, and yet accomplish NOTHING! And this occured with NASCAR and street cars. I only finished 5 models in 2008, and one of them was a diecast prepaint, another a snaptight that I painted. One of the others was a resin that fought me on every turn, and the other was curbside. I don't even remember the 5th off the top of my head!! And it's weird, too, in that the things that normally give me inspiration have not! I've gone to Toledo, LIARS and a local IPMS show since I stopped building- plus NY's 3rd largest car show, which also has a model show-and many TNMCC club meetings. I've seen Clay and Bill and their work in person, among many other world class builders. It's strange. I have long struggled with the same chassis over and over on NASCAR builds...I've gotten around that by a few different measures. 1 is to do one of the different kinds of chassis, but even doing one of a different color sometimes can solve that,,,,or throw in a street car, too! I recently stopped building engines (no one sees em anyway!) and that helped. I think I've kind of gotten "beat down" by things not working right so often. It's kind of frustrating when EVERYTHING goes wrong! It's like every time I try to add some detail somewhere it invariably breaks, goes mysteriously missing (?) or doesn't fit later-even though it did when test fitting. The suggestion of mental block may be more true then it at first seems. Maybe I should just go back to building box-stock and forget added detail, at least for a little while. Build up that confidence. I think the weirdest thing is that I stalled out with only about 45 minutes worth of work left on a project. My Revell 49 Mercury is so close to done it's not funny. The only work I have left is to finish painting the engine and do the final assembly of the engine itself! Most of the work left is waiting for the paint to dry on the transmission! Of cource, I've been frustrated with other aspects of my life, and that could be rubbing off on the modeling, too. I've been in a really bad rut, of late, where everything is breaking or falling or both. Last night my scanner seems to have busted, and it was the top of the line just a few short years ago! I have running it hard lately though and it may be a bit overworked, so I am letting it rest and checking the boards. Also, my camera died earlier this month, but that's not bad because I replaced it with a brand new 10.1 Mexapixel that makes my old one look like a daguerriotype, lol. (That could be spelled wrong, but anybody who knows what that is gets a bonus in my book!) My diecast building has been giving me similar frustrations as well. I've worked as late as December on them but they are not working as right either. My efforts to scratchbuild a 78 Thunderbird in NASCAR trim has hit a dead-end. Jerry, I will call you very soon! Lyle....Working on that!! When I am not working on models I find it very hard to find the motivation to post on any of the modeling boards so that is why I have been somewhat quiet here. Don't you guys worry, though, I'll never leave this hobby totally, even though I might get quiet for a while! (And while I did sell some models in Toledo, I enjoy looking at them too much to sell any more then those 12 or so!) I have cut back on buying because I'm out of space though. Thanks every one of you for the words of encouragement! Of cource, I can't do any painting for a while no matter how much I want to...as this is what my back yard looks like, and that's where I paint! -
Allright guys, I know everybody has periods where they just don't feel like doing anything. I am currently in my longest career drought, so far at least, and I have not touched anything since September. Now, I normally don't build much if at all in the winter but the urge to build just isn't there. What is you all's record for longest non-motivation? I know it'll be back at some point, just have to wait for it to get here, and just keep plugging along until it does. And yes, that is why I have been scarce around the modeling forums for a while!

What happened to these customs ???
Billy Kingsley replied to Eshaver's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sadly I doubt the Silhouette will ever been seen again. I think if it is still out there, it would have turned up by now. We can always hope, I suppose. -
Issue 137 complaint
Billy Kingsley replied to 58 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know it's an old cliche in the modeling world but Gregg can only use what he gets. (I have not gotten mine yet, or if I have, I have not read it yet, been REALLY busy!) so I cannot comment on the article itself, nor do I know who wrote it. -
Whenever they do get it out, I want at least one. I just have to decide weather I will paint it orange or black. Now that the Mustang has been changed, the Challenger is my favorite production car.

New Toledo info for new place
Billy Kingsley replied to Tom Kren's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It will be weird going to a different place. While I know this will be the 4th or 5th location for Toledo, this will be the first time I go to a different location. I am still going to stay at the Red Roof in Maumee. The way I figure it, after driving 15 or so hours from New York driving 15 minutes or less to the new location won't be an issue. I am worried about this killing my NASCAR summit though. (I know, nobody on here cares!) -
Just saw this guys show on Comedy Central
Billy Kingsley replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
He's one of less then a hand full of comedians I actually find funny. (another is Carrot Top). Good stuff, all around. -
Swearing and cussing on the board
Billy Kingsley replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mark, if you want to argue semantics then I didn't allude to anything-I came right out and said it. -
Whenever the spirit moves me. I have no real life and I keep odd hours, so if I feel like working on model cars at 4 AM, I do. I don't force myself to work when I'm not "feeling it", that leads to things going wrong and generally bad stuff all around. I have not touched anything since the first week in September, other then one night when I did some work on my 1/64 models. Mainly just getting the first layer of putty on the body that is eventually going to be a 64 Mercury and painting the first shade of blue on the Bill Seifert car. I do have to be cautious of the temperature. In the winter it's often too cold to work, as I have have to have the windows open to work on models. Right now it's 28 F. out. That's too cold to open the window. In the summer most of the work is done in the middle of the night, when it's coolest and I can get by with my fan and not the AC. I can't stand the heat so if it's too hot, I don't work. And, the paint congeals.

That's some serious meltage. If I may make a suggestion, how about making it into a diorama of a car that lost it's motor, and the tire caught on fire? That would work for the rear tire anyway. I just put a bunch of kits in storage-probably 200 or more. Before I did that I went through each and every one of them and pulled the tires and decals out of them, and put them where they were not touching each other. In fact, I now have a big box in the basement full of tires in zip-lock bags with the kit they came out of written on the bag in Sharpie.

Swearing and cussing on the board
Billy Kingsley replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It does not make any difference to me, I never curse. Just my own self-imposed rules of conduct. I have set my own standards so high that there is little anyone could do that could make them stricter. I also don't drink alcohol, smoke, do drugs, etc etc. just on my own personal impulses. I think using those words as everyday additions to a person's vocabulary shows that they are not very intelligent, and generally don't have a very good handle on the human language and therefor their arguments-for whatever it may be-won't stand up to scrutiny. -
Okey is the ONLY employee. I hope it's not true. He's put more time and effort and personal equity into this then pretty much any modeler would be hard pressed to match-guys like Dave Burkett is one of the few. I really like Okey, I make it a point to stop by and see him when I can at shows and hope it is not true!

built a MySpace and Facebook page for myself! My brother's been after me for a couple of years to create one of each and I finally did. A friend of mine has already reached out and added me to her Facebook page. I am happy You modeling guys may or may not have pages, but you are welcome to add me if you'd like. I'll add you if I recognize you or if you tell me where I know you from. I'm still learning but I am having more fun doing this then I have had on the net since I created my Fotki account in 2004! Oh, and, my MySpace page has a Dale Jr theme (of cource, right?) and they both have pictures that none of my "car guy friends" have seen. I have the Myspace set to not auto play the song, either...I think. (It's Brooks & Dunn, Hillbilly Deluxue) Here is Facebook http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=153...amp;ref=profile and MySpace http://www.myspace.com/billykingsley By the way, this is totally ON topic, as there is a photo album dedicated to model cars on both of them!! Thanks!

Guy's, Lets Do This!
Billy Kingsley replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I shall also vouch for Chuck...I've known him for 8 years now. (yup-also from the MCL). I will spread the word to some folks about these... One of the first times I ever bought a kit online was from Chuck, probably around 2000 or 2001. No later then 01, more likely 2000. Still have it, and have not yet started building it!! -
Let me see if I have this straight- Revell is doing a full Challenger, while AMT is doing a snaptight only? Is that right? If so, I'll be getting the Revell one and skipping the AMT. Overall, pretty cool stuff. The majority of my purchases will be the 57 Black Widow-something I already knew from last time new kits were announced. I plan to get several others, though, most definitly the Tijuana Taxi-I've been wanting one of them but didn't want to spend the money for it. I'll probably get the Rommel's Rod as well, to go with my Tom Daniel Collection. I will add another Red Baron, even if only for the Bi-Plane. I have a plan for it... I need more 62 Pontiacs for NASCAR work as well, I had only one, so I am glad to see them coming back. Overall, cool stuff...

Bob, #6 is Ron Andrews, owner of Race Motor Replicas, # 13 is Alfa, real first name Jim, and # 19 is Daryl's friend from Europe who'se name I know but don't know how to spell-shoot a message to Darryl and he'll get you the proper spelling I am sure. I was looking for Dave Kelley at the show, and I didn't see him. Turns out he was right next to me. D'oh! The scary thing is that this is not the first time I've been right next to somebody and didn't see him. Ack! -
I will be 24 this Saturday. (10/18/84 is my birthday). I've been building-and contributing to model message boards-since I was 15, in 2000. I've got about 800 unbuilts. (Actual number unknown) If you shop real smart you can find a lot of kits $5 or less...I did...and now the basement is full!

Bob Paeth passes.
Billy Kingsley replied to Jim Keeler model cars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm at a loss for words. I met Bob through this websight, and he was a truly nice person. The hobby has lost some great men in the past few years, and Bob is one of them.
